It's like a group of Hydrophobic people joining a swimming Club. 1) First complain about gatekeeping when there are no restrictions on entering. 1.5) Accuse members of being ists and phobes. 2) Get in and get rid of what you don't like - The Water. 3) All the original members leave because they can't swim. 4) It's now only a swimming club in name.

The only time I can accept someone being nonchalant and casual about being turned into a ghoul is in Fallout 3 if you decide to detonate the nuke in Megaton. Moira Brown, the cute tinkerer/shopkeeper who wrote the Wasteland Survival Guide (With your help), survives the explosion and gets ghoulified as a result. Being a quirky science-lover, she finds the idea of being a ghoul fascinating, due to her newfound radiation immunity opening more doors for her research. A BoS soldier being turned into a ghoul? He should be mortified and suffering an epic existential crisis!

Mauler’s right about Fallout. Fallout had goofy stuff going on but the franchise used to be serious about the core concept. New Vegas was all about how a post apocalyptic world results in some wacky things like a clueless quick-talker becoming head scientist of a power station, and how that was causing strain on the people who needed the power. Ever since Bethesda took over, Fallout has gone heavy into clown material and that’s bled into the core concept. That Drinker calls it a silly video game show where nothing makes sense is *why* this show sucks. It’s a monument to the destruction of the Fallout world. Fallout used to be so much more than that. We went from serious but humorous to a clown party.

I see many parallels between Fallout and The Boys, another Amazon show. @@DS94everXev I hear that opinion a lot about The Boys. I don't consider the "Wokeland" bit to be on par with characterizing conservatives as racists who will follow a Nazi, or gun owners as stupid people who shouldn't try to defend themselves. Homelander and Soldier Boy, the two who are charicatures of patriotic Americans, are the evil villains. It's very clear that they take soft jabs at the left while seriously deriding the right. I don't remember a similar villainization of leftist ideology. But the thing that drew everyone in was the spectacle of the extreme violence, and thus it snuck in the message.

You aren't wrong. You are observant and to be commended for it. The trailer straight told us what this show would be about: Haves vs have-nots. That was NEVER the premise of Fallout. But they tried to fucking cram it into the show, starting with Vault-Tec owning half the US economy and deciding to nuke everyone else for profit and power. They wanted to establish a monopoly where they brought their competition along with them for no good fucking reason outside Communist perceptions of what capitalism is. They think everything is about power, and anyone who says otherwise is just lying, so of course the goal of capitalists was to kill everyone else. Similarly, players know the Vault Dwellers are test subjects, they are not rich or fortunate, but the show creates the perception that they are, anyway, in order to justify Moldaver's Red Wedding and the shitty treatment of Vault Dwellers. "They didn't have to suffer, so they're privileged bourgeoisie. They're cowardly, shallow, silly, and weak." So it makes perfect sense to be cruel assholes to them, or their descendants, in Neo-Marxist logic. They can only be redeemed by being shat upon so they develop a revolutionary consciousness. Thus, it's fine for Moldaver to engineer the sexual exploitation of her friend's daughter, no matter how many plot holes she had to jump through. Moldaver herself is supposed to be good, though. She's going to get this infinite energy so she can......what? Get it immediately taken away by the Enclave? Or get her ass nuked by Vault-Tec again? Or get roflstomped by the Brotherhood? What was her plan for this shit? She didn't have one because the writers didn't have one beyond showing that people will crush "noble" goals like giving people free electricity, in order to take power for themselves. As if they couldn't use infinite energy to produce zillions of products or endeavors. The Brotherhood gets the same treatment. Nobody fucking recognizes the order now, because it's an exploitative religious cult, true to Marxist perception, that just abuses its own squires as labor and cannon fodder. Maximus has to be crapped on repeatedly just to make this point, so he can have a Neo-Marxist arc where he becomes a good, communal, person that follows Goosey with no understanding of what sex is, because that's a power dynamic. Speaking of, the only good society in this show is the Vault that rebelled, Vault 4, which is somehow totally inclusive of wastelanders and also the most peaceful place ever. We JUST saw raiders that refused to be redeemed in Vault 33. They were absolute animals, Moldaver's animals, but somehow they're model citizens in Communist heaven. How the fuck did that happen? We're never shown, it just happened through the magic of diversity and inclusion. Finally, we see Overseer Daddy fleeing towards a darkened New Vegas, and the ghoul reminds us that all the chaos is engineered. Communists really think that it is. They think everything they perceive as wrong with the world was engineered as a way to take advantage of people. That's why they're such miserable shits, why they reject free trade for mutual benefit, and why Mr. House is the next target. There can't be a prosperous New Vegas with lights on and people doing well. That wouldn't convey the revolutionary message effectively. Instead, it has been darkened by House's triumph over NCR and the Legion, which is guaranteed to make an appearance. The plot likely won't make any sense, but the message will still be there.

@@arcdecibel9986 And I have to commend you for your analysis, because all of that is buried beneath a veneer of violence, spectacle, the fact that Goggins is a good actor, and Lucy is a lovable character. Another problem is that everyone points to the Fallout universe and says, "Yeah, it's supposed to be really goofy and stupid. Of course it's not supposed to make sense. Of course they make the United States a charicature of super capitalism that would destroy itself for profit for... someone." Mauler makes that point pretty well. They make it impossible to tackle The Message in it seriously because it's said that you're not supposed to take any of it seriously, but people are still absorbing The Message whether they want to see it or not. Gary also mentions the DEI elements in it, and that doesn't seem to be getting enough attention. Custodes are technically separate from space marines and are made in another manner that is super secret. This does likely mean that actual space marines are now safe from being retconned. Female Custodes should be an issue for all fans with the way they announced it, that tweet they put out is terrible. GW just finished the Horus Heresy and the Seige of Terra books, a massive undertaking set 10K years before the events of Warhammer 40K and arguably the most important story in the setting. It literally finished a few months ago (ie coinciding with codex Custodes development) and there are no mention of female Custodes in there, which means if there has always been female Custodes, then not one of them was worth mentioning, nor had any story worth telling. Should have said they started to be developed during the 10K years of isolation as the Custodes rebuilt their numbers after the Heresy.

Literally all they had to do was was state that custodies recruitment was low and the need for recruits so desperate that they lifted the restriction on women. Sisters of silence could have done the same and started recruiting men (blanks are extremely rare and turning away potential recruits due to gender is a big handicap.) That way the talon of the emperor could both be a mixed force without breaking the lore or either one being made redundant. Mauler moans about chance meetings...the hobbits are saved by a chance meeting with tree beard. You can basically use plot armour and chance meetings to criticise absolutely everything ever made. The main characters ALWAYS have plot armour and chance meetings.

The show is a solid 8/10 with plenty of flaws, but man it feels like they were actively looking to hate it and that really turned me off. TBH I'm baffled at the arguments they wanted things to be lore accurate but also wanted things to not be lore accurate and instead be realistic. Pick a street. Personally, I'm here because its a Fallout show. Unrealistic goofy things from the games are a plus for me. If I wanted a realistic post apoc show, it shouldn't be a Fallout show because that is not what Fallout is. TLJ is a fictional IP meant to follow its own rules and they jumped the shark on that. Fallout is a video game series that often spits in the face of logic for a laugh or gameplay and if anything they made the show much more realistic than the games. They are very different foundations and TLJ is full of heinous offenses inventing or expanding upon stuff that did not exist before while Fallout, if anything, is toned down.

@Ralathar44
@Ralathar44 Ай бұрын
Maximus is a highly conflicted character without a clear arc. Basically he's your every day person who wants to be a hero but has been confused and mindfuacked. So his journey is first towards realizing what everything else is, with him not really knowing what he's doing or why since he's still figuring himself out. Then once he actually understands the lay of the land he can finally become who he's gonna be. He's prolly the most realistic character in the show in that regard. Confused, full of double standards, fed constant misinformation, and has personal flaws all causing him to be very inconsistent. If they continue to do him right then in season 2 he'll have figured out more or less how the world works and where his head is at in season 2 instead of constantly being pulled in different directions by naive ideals, Brotherhood brainwashing, and falling prey to his own flaws.

It is even shown in one of the first Terminator scenes when Arnie rips out the heart of one of the punks. Sadly many saw it happening long ago. But too many were too tolerant of the invaders, they argued a valid position we would of been no better than our bullies who excluded us, but that undermined the hobbies and fandoms we take part in by giving an inch, then they took a mile. Also if my memory serves, some trials for kids to become space marines were horrendous, like the Death Guard, you had to walk through a thorn field and the thorns had tons of agonizing toxins on them. Most die, some live but wish they didn't and a rare few make it. Another is death battles, drop 100 boys in an arena and throw in a bunch of knives and stuff and let them go until the watching marines decide enough is enough, usually when like 10 are still alive, maybe less.

Relating to Fallout series. Games have insta heal and such mechanics to not to make it too frustrating to players. Same as in games you could survive several shots and then just heal. Or some games have weapons and ammo and health just spinning around in the air for easy pickups. Etc. Not that sure I want to see those same mechanics applied to movies or series just because "games have those" because those are mostly related to certain game mechanics. Films and games are very different mediums. In games you overlook loads of things in name of mechanics. One being many characters and enemies being bullet sponges to make games harder. That same was happening e.g. in JW4 and I hated it. Characters had invisible health bars and they only died when it was depleted.

The world of Fallout, gameplay aside, is inherently absurd because its designed and written around being a game. Everyone is stupid. Everyone is helpless. Everyone needs the chosen one to solve every issue big and small. There are no children anywhere, the wasteland is nothing but raiders and deadly monsters but towns are somehow still alive. Nothing anywhere is ever looted and is full of goodies just waiting on you. So yeah, if you take the games seriously they're actually TERRIBLE writing.

The world needs to exist outside of their actions. Fallout can do this, and other games have had factions take action with or without the need for the MC. Again, the main character being the catalyst for the events is not bad writing, especially how integral the MC character normally is to the plot. Characters randomly bumping into each other, or people being stabbed with blades need to be addressed with dare I say "realistic" expectations. Imho, there are three basic problems with the Fallout tv series: A) Satire: Satire in game-Fallout is conveyed by the surroundings and the post-nuke world, not by it‘s characters - they are often very tragic. The show gets that wrong, characters try to be funny all the time. B) The show tries way too much to engage with game mechanics, e.g. medpacks in a very clumsy way. C) Mauler is right, they need a smart and consistent story in the tv series. In the game, you as the player can take control and make all the decisions you want. That’s totally different in a show where the writers make the choice for you so it has to feel right. One reason it’s obviously super hard to write e.g. mass effect as a tv series is that the story is driven so much by the characters choices and that’s super hard to transfer properly into a tv encroachment
@aldunlop4622

I agree with a and b. The satire generally didn't quite work for me. They needed someone to consult who actually knows satirical dark humour like Bill Burr for example (not as an actor, just writing the scenes). I don't think Jon Nolan is much of a comedic writer. The ingredients were there, with better direction and execution, some of them could've been hilarious. The crossbow bolt in the neck did it for me, I burst out laughing...

Movie gets greenlit in 2022 and starts production, and the studio sees the cultural changes that take place since then with Biden in charge and realizes their most expensive movie could easily flop hard. @@Butiguessilovememore they're not a hate mob, just inconsistently applying their critiques and relying on volume and volume over quality. Fantastical healing eliminating stakes? Luke Skywalker's Hand. Plot armor? Gandalf the grey literally being ressurected by god to change history. (despite never being mentioned in the books so its also a massive dues ex machina). Lore issues? Go watch Timothy Cain's video on lore drift. He's one of the biggest folks behind making Fallout 1/2. There are plenty of answers to the criticisms, but when the critics talk 5 times as much and as loud it just drowns the other side out completely. I loved that they had differing opinions, but the discussion was badly imbalanced in terms of fairness. Props to Drinker for realizing the situation and graciously taking the L rather than turn the lopsided discussion into something worse.

The lore issues wouldnt be as glaring if they hadnt made a point to say the show is in the same continuity as the games. Saying "but thats how stimpacks work in the games" but in the game it only restores 30% of your health lol varying depending on game They also ruined Mr House in another way. In FNV House is shown to primarily be concerned about the survival of humanity but in the show they make him concered only with profit. They also have Sinclair running Big MT even though Sinclair didnt run Big MT. He made a business deal with them and they did experiments without his knowledge. Plus the plot of Lonesome Road is about blowing up the Long 15 to cut off trade with Shady Sands, in 2281, 4 years after its blown in the show. These are just a handful of lore issues that not many people have brought up, to go with the hundred others

On Stimpacks - Stimpacks restoring 30% is a game mechanic, same as the Pipboy freezing time, and VATS existing. Stimpacks have restored more or less from game to game, and were originally depicted as hyper-morphine. As to House - House's full motivations are not expanded upon within the show. My guess is that House joined to gain info on when the world would end (as he knew it would) as opposed to make any profit from it ending. House has already been involved with Vault-Tec anyway. PipBoys have always been made by RobCo. We also don't know if Vault Tec's plan to nuke the world ever came to fruition, only that they did have discussions on it. Sinclair represents Big MT, the show does not clarify if he runs it. He's obviously in a position of substantial partnership with Big MT to be included in these conversations. Once again - Shady Sands was nuked after FNV, before the show. The line indicates the fall happened when the 2nd battle of Hoover Dam happened, and then the nuke happened an indeterminate amount of time later.
@almalone3282
@almalone3282 Ай бұрын
@OKMBVideos About that last point, if shady sands was nuked after FNV, then why is there no second date? Every other event on the board is dated but the nuke. The only reason to not date that event is if the nuke and "the fall if the ncr" mean the same event. For example, 1945 Hitler commits self deletion ------> Nazi Germany falls. I don't need to date the second part because they roughly happened at the same time. Meaning the fall of the NCR is the nuking of Shady Sands.

@@almalone3282Best in-universe explanation I can give is that the fall started with the first battle of Hoover Dam (might have said second, mistake), and then at some indeterminate point later, it was nuked and was not given a date on that particular chalkboard (though what purpose it was being used for beyond education is not stated within the show) Given that they're clearly aware of the timeline and are planning to use New Vegas in S2, that nuking happened at some point after NV happened. S2 will undoubtedly give us a concrete date for when Shady Sands was nuked.

At the largest miniature wargaming tournament I have played in so far, about 170 players, there were more trans women playing than women. The community is very welcoming to everyone (or why would we have more than the average of LBTQ people in there and not less if we all were just subhuman basement dwellers like people online call us) but it is mainly a hobby for biological males. The theme song to the series explains that the good captain rises to recognition from being a bumbling enlisted bugler, when he accidentally sneezes into his bugle and changes a retreat into a charge that turns to victory. He also frequently has his fat pulled from the fire by his Uber competent girlfriend Wrangler Jane. The show could be amusing at times, but could never be produced nowadays because of words & terms, such as pale face and red skin used in the intro song, and because of the comedic portrayals of white men and Indians.
