Thanks for joining me, I’m a hat salesman from NYC, working at JJ hat Center since 1994, and nine years before that at another shop..I’m trying to get everything I know about hats out there to you guys, so that it’ll help out some people and hopefully make their hat purchases go a little smoother. Respeck, big ups!.. Vato and Dave are some quick on the draw bruthafuggaz the fact that u beat them both is incredible, generally the second I see my video is uploaded and ready, I go to KZfaq studio,(the creator app), and I snap it off ,”private” and put it on “public” then I snap on the monetization,and hit “save”, by the time I close the app and open you tube, he’s already) commented. Figure between the time I hit Public and the time I open KZfaq, it’s about 5-10 seconds, (usually more like 5) and he’s already written something there. It’s uncanny, I have no idea how he does that so quickly.

Little improvements in audio and video quality in the last couple vids, hope u guys notice an upgrade, .upgraded to an external mic and got better lighting.

Great subject I want the premier stratoliner in mink color with a tear drop and wider vintage band and a sage premier stratoliner with a cattlemens crease , both are on my wish list, definitely my next two hats, got some great info and you answered some questions I had, thanks Kevin , and the guitar jams are extra and excellent 😎🎸✌️

I really like western hats but since I got my first fedora hat I changed my mind about these hats. I really like fedoras.

"fedoras for folks who don't like fedoras". So true. When I was picking out the stratoliner my wife specifically stated "no fedoras" when we went to the hat shop. I put the the strat on my head and she MADE me buy it. The only difference I really see is the larger band ..... Who knew such a small detail could make such a huge difference, but it does. I love love love love my strat. My only other hat is the Akubra Lawson and between the two my head stays well cared for. Love the videos. Sound is MUCH better. Keep up the awesome work and thank you so much for taking time away from the family and life for us hat junkies.

I have an Open Road Royal Deluxe and a OR 10X straw. Love these hats. The straw has a higher crown than the RD. I am looking forward to a Stratoliner but I haven't settled on a color yet.

It’s inevitable, they’re selling everything cut rate for a year now, they needed to raise cash to invest in new straws and felts, that was the idea..to clear all the old inventory out and turn it into cash, to reinvest in future orders..those sales really saved us,but yeah, it has been going a while..not a lot left in the hot sizes,

I really liked that dark sage green hat. Why don't they make more green hats? I looked closely @ the grey Stratoliner SE & liked the champagne colored skinny band & edge binding. I got out my Rodeo King & it’s slate grey with matching grey thin band & binding. My hat has open crown & I don't intend to ever put any creases in it. The brim is so big I can camp under it. 🏕 I like the way the brim is slightly rippled around the hat, kind of shovel straight in front & back. I think it has character because it doesn't look like other hats. I put a really great blue, black & purple braided horsehair stampede string on it & I'm ready to put on my boots & spurs & go to a rodeo or a bar with an old neon light. Yee haw I'm almost there! 🌵👍☮️🎸🚵🏼‍♀️

Sage green hats are my favorite. Depending on the lighting, they can appear green or brownish

Most brands don't make them, you'd be surprised at how many hats just come in brown black and grey. I agree,I like it too. It's neutral and earthy, matches w everything..

Great video Kevin! can you do video on Hat stands? I remember a family member having a a coat stand with a hat holder at the top. His fedora always had a home there when indoors. Thanks so much.

perfect hat for me i like fedoras but live in texas so the open road doesn’t stick out at all, fedoras just dont do well here with all the open land and dirty where i live

If I want to target a small part of my hat to steam, I dampen a cloth and put it in the microwave for 2 mins. then put the hot steamy cloth on the area I want to treat.

I considered it. There were just too many.. I'm thinking of doing part two w, Dune,Akubra, outbacks, safaris, roadster.. this was more of the snap brim "fedora" variety, and I thought it didn't qualify as a "fedora-like" crossover. I'll do outbacks next

The brick crease crown doesn't sit as deep as a cattlemen crease correct? Seems to have less deep of a fold

Exactly, it's not a center crease, it's more of a bubble or a cattleman shaped teardrop. The brick crease doesn't jut down into the crown area and obstruct the depth, it almost goes up and gives you more depth,rather than less. Think if it like this.. They make a cattleman's crease and then they "bubble crown" it, to give the center crease more depth.

Any thoughts on spraying water repellent to felt hats?

Usually doesn’t need it, the problem is generally not water seeping in, or through..it’s more like the brims will curl if they’re too thin, or they just dry out of shape. You generally have so,e rain proofing on a fir felt hat anyway, I wouldn’t risk it,mot for a fedora, maybe for an older hat..dedicate an older,worn hat as a rain hat,one that u don’t worry about so much, . Use the beater hat for your rain hit, the one u.care bout the least..or the oldest,beat up one..try spraying that one. Make sure u dust it w packing tape first, try a thin scotch guard spray if u want, I don’t use it. Good westerns made from fur felt will be fine in rain, real full-out westerns, not open roads or crossover hats. but fedoras are hot and cold, some will curl up horrible and get ruined, while others will be unchanged and 100% perfect after rain, (assuming u dried it in the correct position. Brim up, upside down,on the crown.away from heat.)u never know. Generally old,vintage hats are fine, but modern fedoras are hot and cold, u never know. I just use an old hat for rainy days, and when I get caught out there with a new hat on, I’ll pop into a candy store and get a plastic bag, cover the hat. Westerns are already fine, but fedoras I don’t think it’ll help a lot.

Hey Kevin, I just purchased my first two fedora hats, The Ken, one in Black, and the other in Grey, they will be arriving on Wednesday. I was talking with Benji over the phone, about my questions I had with the hats. Benji's help couldn't have been any better, he's such a nice person, and was very professional. I had the crowns of the hats lowered down 3/8 of an inch. Kevin, could you tell me what your thoughts are on that, is it cool?

Should be fine, I wouldn't worry.. that's anot a big deal. Benji and the guys know what they're doing.. great choices. The quality of those hats is really nice, I don't know if it was necessary, but if it makes u more comfortable, go for it

They can take very long, we generally discourage it, it can be many months..nobody’s getting hats this year, we received maybe less than a third of our order,the rest never came, so check up on it, see if u can get some info from hatco customer service,make sure it’s coming, straw season is upon us, they’re concentrating on getting straws out now.

They’ve given me quotes of 12-14 weeks on hats that customers have asked about but they told me they had the one I ordered in stock and have already charged my card, the whole process with them has been a hassle lol. Anyway I enjoyed the video and love what you’re doing!

I have a hemp open road. Is it ok to steam hemp open road ? My head bumps the top uncomfortable.

Yes, it works exactly the same way.steam the middle crease, deep inside it, get it hot,and then raise it up from the inside, and hold it still while it cools, I have two or three videos on how to deepen an open road.

is there an a hat similar to an Open Road with a raw edge (but that stiff felt), a slightly wider brim (but still snappy like a fedora) with a feather? Really, like a calico but stiff felt, a 3 finger, and raw edge?

There's a hat like an open road with a raw edge and slightly wider brim.its called The Range. But it doesn't have the snap brim, it's more of a western brim. Between an open road and a cowboy hat,sort of. But with all the specs u mentioned?, nope. The Calico is the widest snap brim hat that's even similar.

It’s a custom Borsalino we used to sell. We designed it, I doubt it’s available anywhere else. We called it the Classico Plus, but it’s not going to be available this year, I requested it, but it didn’t happen. Maybe next year. I, sorry I don’t think you’ll find it anywhere.
