Thank you for a great video. Do gas oool heaters have pilot fire, like house boilers do? I am going to help my neighbor start hers tomorrow, but I never worked on one.
@CrystalEdgePools
@CrystalEdgePools Жыл бұрын
Most heaters are on demand ignition type firing. They do not maintain a constant pilot.

Wanted to thank you for the great content you are posting! On your video regarding the pool/spa combo, I'm curios if the Hayward blower interacts with any of the automation or other equipment or is it simply, on/off? I would have posted this question on the pool/spa combo video but comments are turned off on that video. Thanks in advance!

Hi Richard. Blowers are typically an on/off mechanism. However, controlling them with automation is certainly possible and a standard operating procedure for most reputable installers at the time of your automation installation. If you have installed an automated interface/controller at some point after initial pool pad installation, it will simply connect to one of the relays on the control unit. The only problem would arise if there are not enough relays available to control all of the items you desire to automate. For example if you are running a hayward omni "VS" automation unit (the small one with a user interface the size of a large smartphone mounted to the wall) you only have a couple of extra relays. If those relays are being occupied by multiple light controllers, valve actuators, etc., You may not have enough to automate the blower as well. This would be versus a full omni control box (the size of a fuse panel) which is able to expand and add multiple relays and control multiple items from blowers to landscape lighting etc. Think of relays like remote controlled on/off switches. Everything you want to turn on/off remotely needs one. If you have enough you can assign them to just about anything. Hope this answers your question.

The Hayward blower works off of a relay. If you have a standard VS operating unit (the small one that mounts the size of a smartphone) then lights use one, and any other on/off accessory uses the other. Those small ones are not expandable, but the large omni's (the size of a fuse panel) come with 4 relays and are expandable to run everything operating with an on/off switch......blowers, actuators, landscape lights etc.

Hi There. Hayward blowers can be automated with an open relay on the Omni system. It would have to added if not already present on the system.

Good video, clear voice. We have a Hayward heater without control cover and problems with circuit boards, due to water, humidity, critters etc. We now have a code of CE, can you tell us what that could be. Thank you for your post.
@CrystalEdgePools
@CrystalEdgePools 2 жыл бұрын
Hi there. A "CE" code is a communications error code. The board can't communicate with the ignition system. With what you have already posted, it sounds like you need a new control board for that heater. Corrosion should not be a common problem on that board. I would double check and make sure you have a backflow preventer between your chlorinator chlorinator or salt cell and the heater. They are made to be in the weather so that is somewhat unusual
@vcferguson5138
@vcferguson5138 2 жыл бұрын
@@CrystalEdgePools I believe there is a backflow preventer, our heater is 11 yrs old and this will be the 4th control board. Hope we don't need a new heater, as we only heat the spa in the pool and have solar for the pool. Thank you for the help.

Great content. I've got a question regarding the Propane version, do you find you get more of a yellow flame with Propane versions? I'm off propane and my heaters have always had a more yellow flame than NG, no I know propane does not burn as clean but seems odd. I'm even surprised that the " WC setting for Propane is pretty low (6.8 - 7"WC) most manufacturers have a setting between 10 - 11"WC. Have you ever had any issues with Propane versions?

A reg 20 lbs propane tank holding 4.5 gallons of propane would give you how much heat time on the pool??? I have a small 15ft round pool. And just want the water around 75-80. Gas line is on the opposite side of my house, so that option is a no go. Ty

I got a great idea. You should build something like this to heat a house that uses the ground to initially heat the water and then have this outside with radiators in the house where heats it up and heats your house then no more stuff inside the house at all outside I don’t know if they already make something like that but boy would that be nice no more noise no more dirt cost a lot to do because you know you have to make it out of metals that wouldn’t dissipate

I have the pool pump on a timer and have fired up the pool heater. Do I need to change the heater mode to stand by when the pool pumps are not running? If the pool pumps stop at the end of the timer does that damage a pool heater if we don’t change the mode it’s in?
@CrystalEdgePools
@CrystalEdgePools 2 жыл бұрын
Hello, The pool heater should enter a standby mode automatically if it senses no flow. You really only need to enter the standby mode manually if the heater is running and you want to shut it off while the pool remains running

Does the filter at high setting need to be set for 24 hrs to heat the entire pool? A while back, that was my pool guy’s advice. But when I set the temp of the pool heater, the filter at high setting automatically turns on.
@CrystalEdgePools
@CrystalEdgePools 2 жыл бұрын
The heater needs a solid water flow (usually 2750rpm or better) so that's normal.

You should have demonstrated "Lock Out Mode" so people can set Max Temp so no one can tamper with the heat settings.

I currently have my Haward Pump set to pump on high (80%) for 4 hours during the middle of the day to avoid making noise when the neighbors are home. For the remainder of the day, it operates on 40% to be quiet, but still keep the pool circulating water. Am I able to leave the Hayward Heater on pool mode all the time during my schedule?
@CrystalEdgePools
@CrystalEdgePools Жыл бұрын
Hi Carl. As long as the flow is adequate (meaning there are no restrictions slowing down the system) 40% should be enough to keep that heater going. If you find that you have an LF message on the heater, You may need to increase the flow from the pump.Typically, 60% or better is what we recommend to avoid interruptions. Baskets and filters need to remain pretty clean when trying to activate the pressure switch at a low flow with a Hayward heater. They tend to be a little finicky.

I have a Hayward H400 heater which runs through an OmniLogic control panel. Got a LO code, cleaned the filters, pressure is around 9 (typically 10) in pool mode, and the pump is full after it has primed. The heater no longer shows the code, but wont heat even though the OmniLogic says it’s on heating. The 2 gas valves is open outside the heater. Any idea what it could be? Thank you.

Hi. Sorry to hear that your having problems. My experience in the past has been that this is often an ignitor. However, it can be difficult to diagnose and I need to make sure that you understand I can Only speak from experience and am not a Hayward authorized tech. Please respond back when you do find out though so others can benefit. Thanks so much!
@xHMProductionx
@xHMProductionx 2 жыл бұрын
@@CrystalEdgePools - so I replaced the ignitor but that didn't do it. It ended up being that I needed to reset the heater. The technician took it off of bo (60) code since it was tied to the Omnilogic, then reset the pool and spa heater settings, they were too low so he set them back to the max settings 90 pool /104 spa. Then he set it back to bo (60) code so it could be controlled through the Omnilogic panel and it fired up. He thinks it may have glitched due to a power outage/surge that may have caused it to reset the settings somehow. Hope this helps someone else.

Is it possible to program this heater to schedule a time for the heater to kick on?
@CrystalEdgePools
@CrystalEdgePools 11 ай бұрын
This is possible with a unit that will link the heater to an app. This is an iaqualink unit for Jandy, an omnilink (omnilogic) with Hayward, or intellilink (intellitouch) with pentair. It's important to understand this controller must be added and programmed to the system to use the accompanying apps.
