This band change my perception of music. Thanks to them I've realised that I can do more and they among a few other bands influenced my improvisation skills. Thanks to Opeth I've opened my eyes wider for the progressive metal genre and after that for the other music genres like jazz and blues but also I've ventured deeper into death metal. I fuckin love this band and this sick as hell Deliverance outro...

@OfficialArthusamakh
@OfficialArthusamakh 3 жыл бұрын
I would say the best album is Blackwater Park. On a musical point of view I'd say the boys hit the peak (of the classic era) during Deliverance & Damnation. It is totally diverse, has absolutely everything from their darkest to their softest etc. Even though those two are not the best albums, I think they showcase the best musicianship of the classic lineup. I'd say Ghost reveries is close behind those two. I still prefer Deliverance (and Still life) to GR because they are just crazier. And BWP is #1 because it just flows absolutely perfectly from the first to the last second, which Deliverance does not because they made the beginning and end of By the pain I see in others a bit weird.

Really love Opeth's run from 1999 through 2008, and these two albums showcase the two dynamics in Opeth's style, separated almost completely, although Deliverance does still have a couple of clean aspects which makes it somewhat still a traditional Opeth album, but it is noticably less clean sounding than Still Life, or Blackwater Park, for example. Damnation is such a great rock album, they never sounded so organic with their rock material once they transitioned after Watershed, I do understand the appeal, and I like some of it, but it's just not as much for me as the albums released during aforementioned years were.

I first saw this back in 2003 when the Live at Shepherd’s Hall came out. I didn’t like Opeth because a dude who my ex girlfriend was trying to date was a huge fan. I remember I got stoned with some friends and Windowpane came on and I was blown away. I knew Opeth as a Death Metal band and up until that point had never heard a DM band with such versatility. None the less a DM band that could paint such vivid mental imagery with its chord progressions. Like walking through a Foggy forest, or trekking across a haunted moor. It almost sounded like Medicare folk meets the blues. Wow. 20 years later and I’m an even bigger fan than ever! Genius musicians

I watched the entire thing a few days ago. It's great. But now that I saw it, I'm kinda hoping Mikael will make his super evil and dark progressive black metal concept album he's talking about at the end of the making of. Sure Ghost reveries is amazing, but that sounds more interesting really :D

Axe is the better drummer technically, but he just doesn't have Lopez's feel or sense of dynamics. You can hear it when he plays classic era Opeth tunes live. Its kind of unfair to judge him that way, they're not HIS songs, nor were they written to his style/strengths. Likewise, I bet Lopez would struggle with Axe era drumlines if he ever came back to the band (highly doubtful he would).

It's just my opinion. To me, Peter's playing seems a lot more genuine & has a lot more heart than Fredrik's. But, that could also have something to do with the fact that I don't really like anything after Peter left.
@RohannvanRensburg
@RohannvanRensburg 7 жыл бұрын
I can't help but cry "nostalgia". Colourless and static? Fredrik is probably one of the most colourful and interesting players in modern metal. Not liking his playing is one thing, but calling it colourless seems a bit ignorant considering the influences he covers quite overtly in his playing. Have you heard the Nepenthe solo, or any of the solos off Pale Communion?
@Kabz8
@Kabz8 7 жыл бұрын
I've seen Peter with Opeth and Fredrik with Opeth several times. I love Peter and BWP is one of my all time favorite albums, but Fredrik can play circles around him. And he is fully capable of moody, soulful playing, and shows it live, but people hear shredding and dismiss him as some robotic player. If you haven't seen Opeth live, then you are speaking from ignorance.
@ogulcanyolcu8714
@ogulcanyolcu8714 7 жыл бұрын
The reason that you don't like Fredrik because he never wrote a solo with classical licks and you cannot play them well? Fredrik could write a solo like Deliverance but I'm not sure that Peter could write "River"s solo (from Pale Communion). He's different as fuck. Peter was always simple and he was easy to listen, that always made sense. I'm sure, most of the Opeth fans never heard like Fredrik. Everyday I see guitarists like they push the first fret and the 24th fret at the same time or 10 fingers are not enough for them, I do not call them guitarists (like Tosin Abasi, he is.. just ridicilous, he's tiring me while I'm listening to him, just overdoing.) There are two things to do, nothing and like it. Do not tell me "SOUL SOUL SOUL." What the fuck soul is?
