It's normal for the heat gun to smoke a little when they are new also the tips will smoke as well

Bought the glue gun and it was exactly as you described it. Only thing I don’t like is the led stays red. I would have liked it to turn green when up to temperature.

The smoking is most likely the oil residue burning off. Many tools that have metal on them are greased or oiled to prevent corrosion while being stored. As long as it stops after a few uses, it's not the motor.

I don't take batteries off when I've finished with the tool and I do sometimes charge over night but I'm trying to stop myself from doing so interesting review

A little surprised that you didn't look at similar kit from Lidl or Aldi, although I realise that they aren't compatible with Makita batteries. I'm a hobbyist, and I've been using several "Parkside" tools for the last 2 years, and have generally had a positive experience. One small disappointment with one tool, but that could just be a rogue, or my error. Maybe you could do a comparison vid sometime?

This is why you see ryobi green in alot of shops. They may rock blue red yellow for most tools but chartreuse has everything.

Important question for any battery tool- is it brushless? Costs more, but longer life and more power for less battery. Cheapees never are. Makita orbital may not be, DeWalt certainly is. Not buying brushless means you are going to end up replacing it... Glue gun is good; will be buying one. Especially as the DeWalt version is £1 cheaper! The heat gun is advertized as 1200W- which means a 4Ah battery (~80W) will last less than 4 minutes...

Heatgun would be great for quick jobs like heat shrink or the special heat shrink with integrated solder for waterproof connections. Not so much for anything more that 5 mins of use. Gotta protect the batteries

Glue guns are ace! They're one of those tools you end up looking for jobs to do with them 😂

I had the random orbital sander, but it broke after about 3 months of light use. I pulled it apart to see why and the spindle inside the motor had snapped, which was impossible to fix. The build quality seemed alright otherwise so I could have gotten a dodgy one, but from now on I'll probably just buy matika and hopefully save space in the landfill.

Thanks for sharing! I own a number of tools from Makita, Ryobi and HItachi/Hikoki. I did consider the cordless Makita sander, but balked at the price, and, having used one belonging to a workmate, was not impressed by the runtime or comfort of use. That said, I am lucky enough to have purchased the excellent, corded Bosch orbital sander - considerably more than £40 - and it is a pleasure to use for extended periods. With great dust collection, and anti-vibration isolation, you don't have to hold it in a death grip, and very little of the vibration travels up your arm. I'd say, if you are planning on doing very little in the way of sanding, The Makita or knock off would suffice. Bang for buck, though, you'd be better off with a corded tool, both in terms of price and performance.

Hi good comparison test and yes the nozzles on the heat gun will smoke when brand new I have the dewalt version and mine smoked until they where broken in so to speak

Thx 4 sharing. I definitely don't leave batteries in chargers too. I like the tools, however I prefer corded tools, they're more powerful, last longer and are cheaper too. I wouldn't worry about the smoke on the heat gun, my hair dryer does that too sometimes when using it to dry things.

I have the glue gun, really useful for temporary holds as I never think these are a really permanent fix on timber. With regards to the sander my only concern is when you say using a R/O sander for around an hour, take regular breaks when using these type of sanders and if you need to spend that amount of time maybe think you are using the wrong type of sander; there are far better types that will remove stock quicker and better. After a lifetime in the trade trust me you need to limit the time using a vibrating tool.

Most of my hand tools are corded, but I do have 9.6 V Makita drill that needs a new battery. Prior to this video. I was not aware of Mellif or its concept. The US Amazon does carry Mellif tools. I think it's a great concept if someone has several batteries of the same company, particularly in a home hobbyist or part time shop. I might caution that the tools may look similar to a branded tools, but maybe there are some cost savings taken in their manufacturer. This may not even be an issue in the home shop. So i say put them all to work for a while & see how they perform. On the sanders, the Makita motor armature may be better balanced than the Mellif or ride in better bearings/bushings. If you get similar scratch patterns from both don't be concerned about one having more movement than the other. You don't need branded tools to enjoy this hobby. I have quite an assortment of tool brands, not many of which are major brands. I do like major brands for saw blades, router bits, & layout tools. But like many, I don't have a ton of money to invest in the hobby. I did enjoy this video's format & subject, even though they'll probably never be used in my own shop.

Great job on this tool review video! I think it is great for these off brand companies that offer comparable products when a comparison video can be done. No one I know wants to spend the money just to find out. We all like to know what we’re getting before we spend our hard-earned money.

with ref to the power sander, Rag n Bone Brown recently did a comparison between 2 corded sanders and showed how you can change the balance to fix the shaking, which might be worth you having a look at to see if you can do similar with the Mellif.

Great video m8 must say they seem like decent tools. Heat gun think always smoke when there new burn off excess debris etc should settle. I actually just bought one from black and decker granted corded but it was 20 although a looked at einhell which is the battery platform of my drill and driver and they do cordless for 27 although was out stock hense why didn't. The blower seems really handy and the charger light think you'll be surprised how much u use the light think routing Extra light sanding give u light to see sanding swirls. Or even for digging through drawers looking for stuff. 😂 May have to look into couple them. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿👍👏

But if you leave your charger in the house...you'll have to return to the house and pull the cable from its plug ! Or buy a second cable !! It is a great idea for camping or such.

The light on the power bank looks as if it could be used as a raking light. That to me would be more useful than that battery charging for checking swirl patterns while sanding. However the glue gun is almost exactly what I’ve been looking for. So I’ve ordered that I’ll get it on Monday and hopefully it lives up to my own expectations. 😂 Thank you for showing that in particular.

I do understand when people are upset when people accept free stuff and flat out lie about quality in their reviews to get more free stuff. Your review was fair. It's great for this type of person, not so great for that type of person.

Mark, "palava," brillant! Not many of us Americans will recognize Nigerian slang. I'm going to try and incorporate it into my vocabulary (it'll be better than the words I currently use). Nothing to worry about. Good comparison video. Me, I'm a DeWalt guy and some of those tools I prefer in corded versions (my sander, for sure). I could use a small blower, but not if it puts me into a new battery platform. The jersey/jumper it's like, "Where's Waldo" except, I know where to find you. Keep on growing. Total thumbs up!

Okay... I consider this topic a nasty one... Speaking from experience, the name of the brand (Maliff or whatever) does not matter at all. The product almost always comes from china, and to china the money will flow. Hence "the nasty" part of the topic... Apart from the obvious IP Theft...These chinese companies, does not care about their reputation when they're selling cheap product, hence, they does not care much about OUR safety. If their product blow up, hurts or kills people... they just have to declare bankrupcy, pin the blame on someone, and then make THE EXACT SAME PRODUCTS on a new brand. The big brand cannot let their name tarnished like that. That is the main part... --- The second (of three) part is... I believe this is a slippery slope... cheap products get sold easily, and the big brand are losing some of their sales from it. What happens next is... what I like to call "mediocrity ascend to normalcy and innovation belongs to the thieves instead of the innovator". Some may say that this is an exxageration... But I dare say I have learned from experience... not in woodworking tools... but in Video games. Chinese video games makes the most money in this planet... and all of their games are either mediocre, or steals almost everything except the visuals from someone else (example : Genshin Impact, stole the entire ideas from Zelda, and then add in the sexual elements dan the gambling addiction element. The same will happen to tool industry if we keep buying the cheap knock off of the "advanced technology" tools. in the near future, I believe that many woodworking tools will have its digital counterpart (automatic/digital table saw fence, laser cut with easy interface, digital router, etc)... and china will make the unsafer ones while the original innovators won't be able to sell as much. And then.... when all the dust settled... injury to faulty tools and mediocre tools becomes the mainstream (just like Genshin Impact becomes the highest revenue making online video game in the planet) --- The third and final act... I really hope you will fix the audio soon... It's kinda jarring to have it imbalance towards the left ear :)

How are they after 7 months and do you still use them? The sander was a definate no no after you said that you could feel it halfway up your arm after only a few minutes but iv'e got the glue gun and would well recommend it. Good video cheers.

In the cost comparison, you didn't mention battery compatibility. Which is a significant driving concern. A competitor may have the heat gun for 10 pounds less but if it is a bastard battery..YUCK. My guess on the smoking issue: new part break-in.

The heat gun shouldn’t smoke…it could be the attachment burning in… with many wood burning stoves, you have to burn them once outside to burn off the chemicals…could this be the case here. Personally I would not use it if it’s smoking. 😮

Copy tools simply undermine the reputation of the originator and they are cheap for a reason. But more importantly the top players invest into new developments, new products, battery platforms etc. The copy companies simply COPY.

Im an advocate for just because you have an expensive brand of power tools doesnt mean there all better... Case in point.. I own both makita and dewalt battery and corded tools.. My makita recip saw.. Usless.. Utter garbage.. Somtimes I wonder is it even actually working at all...My dewalt corded palm sander ..Rubbish.. Burnt out after a week of use.. Dewalt multi tool cordless.. Gutless !!! Makita cordless angle grinder.. Gutless No name brand china angle grinder for makita batteries, brillant... No name orbit sander for dewalt cordless.. Brilliant... I gave up convincing myself that you get what you pay for.. You dont.. Billy big brands are charging extortionate ammounts of money for somtimes the same or better tool you can buy from china for far less.. Do you research.. Dont buy stuff just beause its dewalt ect ect... Your pocket and your anger mangment will thank you..
