One of their most endearing characteristics is I don't believe they've ever attacked a human in their natural habitat. Their ability to learn how to put a shark in catatonic state puts their IQ off the charts since they don't watch Shark Week on Disco channel. Their tight family pods are very admirable as well. Is it true different pods have different language or dialects and cannot communicate with them?

@@daviddromaine Right, I have never heard of them attacking humans in the wild. I used to work with a guy from El Salvador. He could chat with Mexicans fine in Spanish, but would get kind of lost talking to somebody from Spain. He told me that they speak proper Spanish. I assume that is the way for Orcas, but I don't know. They develop their own terms and slang.

What I can find on KZfaq is so far beyond what was available 55 years ago it's impossible to explain to kids today. About 15 years ago a neighbors 12 year old kid had no idea of what a mammoth was. What the hell is wrong with that kids parents? Not interested unless it involves a game controller I guess. Can you imagine having a resource like this back then? Just wow!

The variety and the number of videos today is awesome , when i was growing up i never knew about things like the male platypus having poison spurs or a fish with a transparent head , You have to give thanks to people like Marlin Perkins of Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom and Jacques Cousteau who were pioneers bringing the animals of the world into our living rooms . I will say this because of the lack of film footage (videos) back in the day about animals that i wanted to know more about the Funk and Wagnalls Encyclopedias and a Websters Illustrated Dictionary were my main sources of info for Knowledge . There are many today that would be clueless without their " Smartphones " . Increase the technological intelligence at the price of lowering the intellectual level of the people. This video is Awesome . . . . but there is way more to these animals than can be explained in a 15 minute video and i hope people are inspired to use their smartphones to learn more .

We went out without my cam in the early a.m. as the return plane was arriving at 10 a.m. A pod of two full size females, two babies longer than our boat, and a juvenile loomed out of the fog: the mom's went by us and we had to look UP to see their backs. I've got a friend that's pretty much been adopted into an orca pod. It started when he helped their matriarch return to the water. He did that by digging the sand out, so that she could float herself. He was able to follow her using a water jet. He described to me what he believes was her telling her family what happened. Their demeanor toward him almost immediately changed. They all began hitting him with echolocation. He said that it made him very sore in the end. Then one of them nuzzled him in the chest. Finally, the matriarch presented him with a fish that she had caught, placing it directly in his hand. My friends name is Jack. I don't know the orca leader's official name. She is known locally as "Keela". I have seen this myself.

Monday, 3pm, no one around, and got away from my mom. Shamu came, up, and looked at me. Her mouth looked about the size of a jet engine, at maybe 2 feet. I realized I didn't have any fish, and if she wanted, she could easily pick me off the platform. I should have petted her, I was that close, but decided I better get off the platform. I was fortunate enough to swim with Orcas in the mid 1980s in New Guinea. We were on a live aboard anchored in Mile Bay when we spotted a pod passing by. We only had time to grab our masks and fins and get to the dingy. We would have the coxswain pass by the pod and then we would roll in and wait for them to swim by. It was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. I never once had any fear of them as you could sense that they were not alarmed by our presence and would calmly swim by. Their eyes were what really caught me. Because they are mammals you feel a sense of connection that you don’t with other sea life. They look at you as if they sense you are a friend and project no threat. I was young and foolish enough to try and grasp one male’s dorsal fin to see if I could get a tow but every time I got close he would just give a little flick of his tail and jet away. I watch videos of their hunting techniques now and just think how lucky I was that he didn’t get irritated by me. The things we do when we are young and stupid.

As a child growing up on the North West Coast of Vancouver Island, I was granted the privilege of viewing these incredibly fascinating cetaceans in their natural habitat. It's hard to describe the surreal feeling of watching a pod work a gravel rub. It was my native brothers and sisters that taught me how to fully appreciate and always respect from a distance. Cetaceans in bondage for human entertainment, military or scientific study of any kind is a crime against nature! I long for the day and hope still to be alive, to see Mother Earth and the Great Spirit say "enough!" to mankinds foolish interference.

When I was on a long liner in the Bering Sea , I got up close and personal with these guys. It was interesting to me that they didn't raid our lines until we fished past their diving depth. When we went deep they got 90%+ of every fish hooked. We could tell they were coming when the Porpoise 's would scatter

As you said, there're the top predator . Smart, intelligent, playful. Good to have as a fish friend. And it makes one the most vicious predator the shark second. Every always spoke the shark as being the top dog, when in reality, it fear for its existence when the Orcas are around. Good reporting.

Even sharks are in danger, even on Land seals are in danger, even birds are in danger, but if you treat them well and let them swim in the Ocean, you're not in danger! Those beautiful mammals do not belong in a damn pool when they have the entire ocean to live. As the narrator said wild ones do not harm humans. There's a guy in Iceland that has become friends with a pod. They even bring their new babies to meet him. He just calls them and they come to the beach to greet him. It's beautiful, he gets in the water and pets them.

I met Shamu and Namu when they were at Sea world in Ohio. My Mom and I sat through the show and when it was over we came out last and just wandering around saw a big tank behind the stage. We saw them in that tank and got close enough to look at them and they started talking to us and they both made motions that made me think they wanted to be petted. I gave Shamu a pat and he responded so sweetly I couldn’t resist petting him some more Namu wanted my Mom to pet her. We had no way to make photos so all we had are memories ♥️♥️♥️♥️

I have to say very interesting video. So very impressive. I have been amazed with Orcas since I was a kid. I have movies and videos on Orcas. The best documentary I have seen was called Black Fish. Trying to in cage this very intelligent animal was the biggest mistake they have ever made. Then they tried to breed them with ones that were not of their kind or pod. Now we don't have a sea world with killer whales. Now it brings me to a very good move that is called Orca. If you have not seen it, I would suggest you see this movie. Black fish is also a must see. GOD bless HIS creation.
