Nice tutorial, love the new pro Q 3. Do you know about soothe? It's a super neat "automatic" dynamic EQ that cuts off resonances, I use it all the time

Hi Joel, first: thanks for your tutorials - they are really helpful! :) One question that is quite fundamental but I always don't quite get this: when do you personally decide to use the compression-mode on an EQ band and when do you use the "normal" EQ function? Are there specific criterias for you? Like ONLY for e.g. resonances or also something else?

Hey! Thanks for your comment :) So whenever an instrument resonance is too loud and creates an ugly tonal imbalance in the context of the mix. Also when I want to lock the bass in the mix when it's too inconsistent, to keep thickness in the low end.

Hi Joel - If I have Fabfilter Pro Q3, is there any special case or advantage where I need to have Fabfilter Pro MB? Thanks!

Hi :) Yes, for drums, or if you're trying to control transients in a particular way, you will have more control over proMB, for expansion and sidechain too or if you need more control over the compression settings.

hey Joel question so I could still apply a Compressor after dynamic eq with the fabfilter q3 ? or would you suggest I group the string section and then throw just one compressor for the string section after dynamic eq ? thanks for the tutorial very informative :)

Hey! Well I would generally not do that nowdays, you need to have a serious reason for compressing the strings in my opinion. I would generally only do it in multiband, the exception being the short strings bus which I sometimes reshape with compression (check it out one of my lastest tutorials)

Yes, Pro MB will basically do the same thing :)
