I live in a household of 9. We buy in bulk also but no too excessive and the food does waste sometimes. But what you could do is donate the foods that are close to date if you think you won't be able to use it up before the expiry date.

I’m really glad you shared the shelf stable milk. I didn’t even know that was a thing! People can judge all they want but this year we went through hurricane Sally and weren’t near prepared enough and it was the worst feeling ever with 2 kids. Now we have a generator, extra food etc... so we won’t be caught off guard again. Rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it! Especially when you have kids. Y’all have done a wonderful job!

This might seem extreme but once a month I go through my pantry and type up a list of every single thing that’s in there. It does take extra time but it’s a life saver for making dinner! I’m sure that would help you so much with your 2nd pantry and meat freezer! You could even laminate it and have it more as a general checklist so you can also see what you need.

Love these kinds of videos. I don't have a pantry as big as yours or a basement for that matter, but I strongly believe we have to be ready for anything. 2020 proved to everyone that bad things could happen and we might not be ready for them.

I live in an old house on a ton of farmland....mice are just part of the deal. the only way to keep them out of things is by keeping everything organized and in containers. Just set some traps and keep everything in plastic storage containers. It can also help with food rotation because you can organize by dates.

Love this video, I think it’s very sensible for you to do this, one for the security if something bad does happen god forbid, but also just financially it’s nice to have a back up of food. Yes it’s a luxury to be in that position but you know that and work hard for it. In the UK the shelves in supermarkets were stripped bare at the start of the pandemic and you just couldn’t get food deliveries. Both my partner and I are key works and whenever we had a day off to get food shopping nothing was left. My parents ended up having to make us food parcels for a few weeks until things levelled out again but it was scary stuff. I now make sure I have a few dried/frozen goods stocked up incase it happened again. Good work Kayla! Xxx

just an idea- would u consider introducing Riley to more food this year? What about giving her the same thing u eat for dinner each day and if she doesn't eat, she can go hungry once or twice....it seems like Jackson is eating what u eat for dinners to a certain extent- I would have Riley eat it too and add some of her fav fruit to it.......just an idea.......

Great work Kayla and Joe! Your hair is very darling today, helps keep out of your way when you're busy. When my little girl was 4 and 5 she decided that she liked having her hair fancy. So I learned to French braid. I buy a little extra each shopping trip to add to mine. We're definitely eating at home every day, 3x a day. It takes a lot of food. Yay, you did it! 🎉

Love the food pantry and backups! Would love to be able to have something like that when we buy a house. I would suggest putting your boxes of food in plastic storage bins until the critter problem is resolved. That’s what we did in my school when there was an infestation. I’ve seen that they can jump super high and all that money would be wasted. Good luck with the pantry organization and the furry friends. 🐭

An excel spreadsheet would be great for the pantry and expiration dates, you could then order it by what’s going out of date soonest. You could also keep count of how much you have so you can clearly see when that needs stocking up 😊 May take a while to start up but once made it will make things so much easier 💕

What a great video Kayla. Your freezer and pantries are looking amazing. I hope no one says anything judgmental. I think most of us understand why you’re stock piling. We live in a crazy world. Yourself and Joe are living in a different climate than what you’re used to. It’s hard driving in the snow and plus you guys are living in area where you might not know anyone who could help you out if you were snowed in. I think it’s a wonderful idea if you have the space and means necessary to afford it. Hopefully, you’re able to check your food storage more oftened, so you aren’t over buying. I don’t know if you’re keeping inventory, but that might be a good idea. Thanks for posting another great video.

And since I have used it and now my stock is almost gone but I didn’t have to go to the store for months. Now I’m gonna start stocking up again on those things I have a small apartment so I can’t get too much but I’ve seen people with houses who literally buy a separate shed and that’s their own convenient store hahaha That’s how you gotta be!!! So I think this is great. I stock pile myself. I also do a lot of canning. Which we use a lot in the winter or sell. You never know when something will come up and being a mother it just gives you a little peace of mind to know you have something if need be. But for mice I use moth balls they hate the smell of them and they can also climb so even if you put things up high they can still get to them.

So satisfying watching organisation videos too! Wish we had more space so we could have some back stock too. Given what 2020 was like, I think you can never be too prepared these days. Coffee....a definite must have for all mamas!

Hahaha yea, we actually grabbed that tub of coffee bc we ran out a couple days ago, so I need to restock that ASAP 😅

A cat is the cheapest mice exterminator you can get. Plus I’m sure Riley and Jackson would love having a cat for a pet.

I would create an Excel table with expiration dates so you can sort it by the closest ending and know which products should be used shortly, otherwise, it seems impossible to remember them for so many products. Maybe this idea helps not to waste anything :)

Honestly with all that meat you should definitely consider instead of giving kids canned food. Also like use the canned veggies for prepper food I really recommend fresh veggies . It’s so much better for them! :)

Could you link the shelves in your upstairs pantry? The ones hanging on the door?

I understand you very well with it you never know what will happen but what are you going to do if all the electrics also go out so you can't cook?

Good question! We have a small generator that powers the freezer so we’d be able to keep the meat freezer going and then we have a grill outside that’s also powered by the generator so we think we’d at least be able to grill!

I’m curious if you find yourself eating more because you have so much extra! I only buy one weeks worth at a time because I feel like if I have it I will eat it all. 🤣 but I hate grocery shopping every week.

You do you of course. But wow! Just shocking to see how much extra food you have put aside- probably enough to run a convenience store.

Mice poop can be harmful when breathing it in. So be careful. Hopefully Orkin took care of the situation. Pantry looks good!
