One of the best coasters ever designed, and what a terrible loss. Should have been preserved, it was never obsolete and positively iconic.

Well said--I could not agree more. I was lucky to make it on Shockwave, Great American Scream Machine and Vortex before they were torn down for dubious reasons...but I was always sad to have missed Orient Express. I am most impressed with how fast it traverses the batwing inversion. Normally the mid-course on these large-scale loopers is set right before that element and you crawl through it, but here you are flying--that must have been crazy intense.

1:12 As a kid, that sound going up the lift, I was like "what did I get myself into" once you was at the top and make that right turn just before the drop. that played a trick on your mental. This Roller Coster had Character... A true Classic, that can never be replaced... I wish they would rebuild it, to be taller, faster with a steeper drop...

Is that for real? That's awesome! The Orient Express was probably the finest roller coaster ever built. The way it shows no mercy as it throws you into loop 1? But then it slows way down right before the second loop- it builds in fear like nothing on Earth ever will BUT The Orient Express roller coaster of Worlds of Fun. So anyway, I'm super happy for you, I'm happy you 'made it to youtube' although, (as has been proven) any idiot can film themselves for youtube account postings, anytime. But you? You're a fun person, I'm glad you're having fun with the video- Thanks to the person who posted it. I was sad the first time I went to Worlds of Fun but there was no Orient Express.

I must have rode that coaster over 100 times! The interlocking loops were so unique, only one other in the world. It was so high, and very jerky lol. Riding at night was the best, as you descended into the tunnel through the dragon with red glowing eyes. The lifting chain made such a distinctive noise! The OE was probably the first upside down coaster ridden by many. I loved the Express. Thanks for posting, it is like stepping back into the best times of my life.

My favorite coaster as a kid. The first drop was the best…totally stomach-losing the way coasters ought to be. Rough as hell ride, but that was part of the fun. Remember riding this over and over. Between this, Screamroller, Zambezi Zinger, and Schussboomer, WOF was a great place in the early 80s. I hear it’s all gone now and replaced with new rides. Too bad.

The video looks like exactly how I remember it, with dropped frames, loss of color vision, and all that jerking around. It was always one of the craziest coasters I've been on, and like the Zambezi Zinger, the overgrowth of trees and bushes hid its true route, even while riding it.

@chadmeyer95007 жыл бұрын
That coaster was a big, bad mother in its day. I rode it a few different times during a few visits and I don't think I ever completely enjoyed it. I think I was just kind of uneasy rather than scared and I think the part that really got in my head was that simple curve between the top of the lift hill and that first huge drop. The curve was slow with little or no bank and unless you were in the front few cars you couldn't see the track in front of you and nothing beside you to the left but open air and a hell of a drop to the ground. It seems like the train was barely moving when it got to the top of the drop. The drop was a relief compared to that queasy feeling going around that damn curve.
@visionist76 жыл бұрын
Chad Meyer more coasters should exploit moments of unease
@brianlaneherder36665 жыл бұрын
That little drop followed by the slow curve before you got to the big drop is the single most memorable part of the ride for me too .... just the feeling of uneasiness as you say. It's like the whole thing was dragged out and it was almost a relief to hit the real roller coaster.

You can tell they were trying to make this coaster unique and the fact it got sacked in 2003 when it could've been fixed up and look and be just as nice as Loch Ness Monster at Busch Gardens Williamsburg is just sad. Worlds Of Fun needs a new steel coaster replacement for this, or rather if they felt the need to remove it so badly they could've replaced it with something that made sense. They've already ditched extreme roller and then this one. Along with the shwarzkophf jumbo jet. Have they even gotten anything good besides a B&M invert and a GCI since then-ok Ik they got a mack spinner but can they add something like a much smaller steel curtain right now? Edit: Coaster still can use a better, bigger "steel coaster" replacement, but at least they are sort of replacing the jumbo jet, which is pretty cool.
