What does an original vintage 1957 Gibson Les Paul Goldtop actually sound and feel like? Today we will compare this legendary sound with one recreated in our modern times. We will compare the sound of old vintage wood and new, but also aged wood. We will also compare the sound of the original PAF pickups with my replica - the Goldie PAF set (8bomb custom). Thanks to Guitarpoint Vintage Guitar Store for such a wonderful opportunity.

Dr Nitro - what a great experience to get out there and compare yours to the 1957. Wow! Of course the 57 has a tone unmatched, but you are leading the way in recreating it. Very well done! Your sharp 9 chords are great, too!!

Great comparison! Of course original ‘57 has more its natural “reverb”, because nobody can beat age of the wood and years of playing, BUT, it can and shall be compared with your Javelin! Looking forward for the next episode!

What can I say? Great experience! Congratulations from the heart! I dont know why, but when You played an original 1957's guitar, I always heard to Angus Young's Gibson SG Standard 1960's sound, in every note, and it was amazing! But I cant say the same on your Replica, despite on I also like its sound, it was so good, but just a different one... Thank You alot!

Both excellent sounding guitars. The audio on KZfaq videos is not excellent, but i can clearly hear how good they both are. I have an original 57 special and i prefer the sounds of my tokai 1958 reissue. Old wood isn't always better. Excellent video.

Amazing Chanel amazing content always and all respect to your great efforts bringing good tone , regardless of price difference or anything both guitars sound very good there is difference yes but like any other instruments good ones are Good some got more upper midrange some got more lower grunt , old wood yes sir makes difference but how about old pots drifting ? This also can be a factor making those guitars go toward tele bitey sound drifting capacitors ? Aging magnets and weather effect on old instruments….brilliant work man . I was interested to find out instruments after 10 years let’s say custom shop or one of your replicas how they age sound wise and mature compare to 50s ones , maybe after 10-20 years nothing much change and they stabilise or maybe it’s constant change ?

The only vintage Les Paul I've ever played was a '53 Goldtop. I was very surprised at the neck which felt almost identical to my Les Paul,...which is an Epiphone 2004. I was expecting a baseball bat.
@8BombCustom
@8BombCustom 5 ай бұрын
I was also pleasantly surprised. but absolutely all profiles of vintage LesPauls are different. There is almost no pattern there. but they all fit very comfortably in the hand. it doesn't matter thick or thin. Personally, I liked 53, 54, 55 more in terms of resonance. They were much more interesting than 57 and 59. Perhaps due to slight differences in design. and of course the bridge. slightly lower neck angle, slightly thinner maple top...

Hello, Dr. Nitro. I'm writing through a translator so that KZfaq algorithms don't remember the "ru" segment. There was such a question. About 3 years ago, you talked about some kind of device that transferred vibrations to a guitar deck. this caused a resonance in the tree. How did the experiments with this gadget go? Can you remember its name? Thanks PS: I will send this message to spam under other videos, hoping for a quick response. Thanks again

change your saddles and thumb screws and plate to softer brass. it'll make your Javelin sounds deeper and closer to vintage. pickups wise, honestly, yours is better and deeper.

pretty sure those vintage electric guitars sounded different when they were made famous by the players and the music that made them famous......they were not old wood guitars then , just regular guitars that made it into the hands of the right people........they have aged well and now sound amazing

Pickups are never identical in a run. The capacitors, resistors and pots are never identical in a production run, and because of that, the tolerance differences between all the components, every guitar coming off a production line is going to be somewhat different. That, is the majority of any difference.
@8BombCustom
@8BombCustom 5 ай бұрын
You right. Thank you.
@thegrimreefer3185
@thegrimreefer3185 5 ай бұрын
Identical, no. But they have a tolerance rating that they should all fall within. Granted, the tolerances were much less controlled almost 70 years ago when that guitar was built. If the original capacitors are still in there, they've changed over time. And likely not for the good. I would bet the differences in the strings has more of an affect than anything though.

This is an interesting point. The owner of this guitar played fingerstyle and the plastic parts were worn away where his fingers rested. It's interesting to see how much and how this guitar was played.
