Would my 60s inspired Epiphone Dot have more clarity from the stock pickups if I did this?
@8BombCustom
@8BombCustom Күн бұрын
Unfortunately, stock Epiphone pickups won't do this. Pickups and wiring are a single system and the signal starts from the pickups. If they don't have brightness, then wiring won't help.

Why everybody cares of resistance? If you take out magnet resistance will stay same. The voice is in number of turns, inductance and parasitic capacitance. Depending on wire tension you will get different number of turns with same resistance. Resistance is useless parameter.

Angus Young does not play 50's wired guitars. Live at Leeds Townsend played p90s with modern wiring. Jimi Hendrix did not play 50's wired guitars. Jimmy Page's double neck and his candy apple red top Norlin Les Paul were not fifties wired. Just keep that in mind.

The best Paul I have is a PRS McCarty with Lindy Fralins…. But aside from that , why do we as guitarist keep trying to do , to replicate the same things over n over ? With all the tools we have why aren’t we inventing new sounds?

I would really like to hear and understand what volume settings and tone settings you started with, and if you’re playing through any kind of distortion pedal in front of the amp. That’s the comparison I’d like to hear. Also would be good to tell your followers to listen through headphones not through their iPhone speaker. I really find it interesting that those that make PAF pick ups always say that there’s are the best. What makes yours better or shall I say closer to what a real PAF sounds like. I have real PAF in my 59 reissue. All PAF don’t sound the same. When you rolled off the tone knob on the 8 bomb custom you should’ve done the same thing on the other guitar. Plus, what value potentiometers and capacitors are you using in the eight bomb custom against the production guitar?

You can see it on two of my last full video on KZfaq channel . It was Pipper Raptor amp without pedals. For full gain volume 10, tone 10 in guitar, for clean sound vol 7 tone 6

@@8BombCustom ah ok so you didn’t just roll off the tone to clean up. You rolled back volume to 7. Should have done that comparison also on the other guitar

The string break at the nut looks similar to my standard. I’m happy with the straight string pull but almost all of the les Paul guys I watch have a weird break for the low and highE almost always it is pointing inward. Makes me feel like I have the wrong spacing or something

My first Les Paul was a Japanese Burny from 1985, it had the 50's wiring. When I finally played a Gibson Les Paul many years later, I was shocked at how poorly it compared to the Burny. When I opened it up to look inside the control cavity, I couldn't believe that the pots were wired differently and mounted on what appeared to be an aluminum plate. Since then, I have always removed that mounting plate on Gibson guitars and mounted the pots direct to the body with the 50's wiring. Huge improvement.

Great video as always, I had no idea that modern wiring sounded so muddy, even with the tone knobs full up. My #1 Les Paul Standard has 50's wiring with matched pots, ground wire on pot casings and matched foil and paper in oil .022 capacitors. I love the large pallette of available tones using 50's wiring and P.A.F. Type pickups. Rock On, Brother!

I really like the VIpots. I hated spending the money but I'm happy I've got them. I also tell people about 50s wiring and proper paf clones. I've got a set of 59s with a4 magnets from brandonwound ( the guy who now heads up Gibson's pickup dept) Easy little changes like this can make a Gibson USA model 10 times better. You can really get that tele on steroids, sound, and crystal clear tones from your neck pickup. People don't have to put up with thick mud only, in the neck position

The only way that you can be sure that an ABR-1 bridge is sonically similar to another ABR-1, such as a real 59, is to measure its resonant frequencies - the frequencies at which it subtracts vibrations from the strings (so not seen by the pickups). Just having a bridge of similar dimensions that looks aged and may have been made with similar metals doesn't guarantee matching sonic characteristics. You can listen to them in an actual guitar, but that will never be as precise. Because your ears can't pinpoint those particular bridge frequencies.
