This is the original Falcon Flight scene from The Empire Strikes Back as seen in the original release. This clip came from Puggo Strikes Back, a 16mm print of the film. It was scanned and then uploaded to archive.org by a user named Puggo. You can watch this version for yourself here: archive.org/details/ESB16mm
For those not aware, better versions of the Theatrical Releases exist and I talk about them in my video here: • A Brief Review of all ...
I do not own the rights to or to distribute Star Wars. That ability belongs to the Disney Corporation. This video is purely for preservation purposes. The music in this video belongs to John Williams, and therefore Disney.

Hands down, THE absolute best of the Star Wars films and one of the best movies ever made, period! Absolutely love it!! Drove nearly 30 miles each way to the theater to see it at least 20 times when it was first released in 1980!

I have to say I much prefer the colour grading in these originals. I know it’s taken off a 35mm print etc. but there was a real dignity to the look of the originals.

I completely agree with you! The fact that this was shot on film adds so much more character to the color! (This print was likely a dupe of a 35mm print)

This is actually 16mm copy, but yeah, it does come from a 35mm original.

I Love The Empire Strikes Back so much and The Empire Strikes Back is an awesome and brilliant Star Wars film. The Empire Strikes Back had great direction by Irvin Kershner, it is one of my absolute favorite sci-fi films, and The Empire Strikes Back was the sci-fi film that came out after Alien, Star Trek: The Motion Picture, and Disney's The Black Hole in May 1980.

My Favorite Star Wars movie, the best one. Thanks for the clip, and thanks for blessing me with that verse of Joshua, I just could not believe that message was there at the end of the clip! I needed it! Thank God and you.

I don’t understand how the line “there’s nowhere to go” was never included in the 1980 stereo version but easily added in that version 25 years ago.

Awesome clip! I'd rather watch the film like this than in the special edition form Side Note:This must be the mono mix: C-3PO doesn't say "There's no where to go" in the original stereo sound mix.

watching this where you can see the film honeslty elevates the sense that Lucas was doing something so radically diffrent than anyone else. with the newer versions they just want to pretend the movies are not from the time they were made in and its kind of a shame to take such beautiful and innovative art out of the history it was a part of

Interesting. C-3PO’s “There’s nowhere to go.” doesn’t appear on any release after this until the Special Editions back in ‘99.

Actually, that line has been in the mono-mix since release, and is often confused with being an SE change.

I thought C-3PO only said, "Oh, this is suicide!" in the original version, and that the added line, "There's nowhere to go" was from the Special Edition.
@SG10FilmArchive
@SG10FilmArchive 5 ай бұрын
That line was actually in the original mono mix for the movie. However, because most people saw the movie with stereo/70mm 6-track audio, the discrepancy wasn’t widely known until the Special Editions came out.

I love Empire but the effects have not aged particularly well. I disagree with most of Lucas’s choice regarding the special editions but am glad they they went back and cleaned these scenes up. They just look better now.

I also appreciate that Lucal went ahead and enchanced the movies. After all, he was just limited by the technology of the time and he had quite different vision than what was produced back then. What I don't agree with is that Lucal proactively refuses to officially preserve original prints. These original versions are the ones that received their Academy Awards, these original versions made history in cinematography. It is a dehonestation to let them rot and be slowly forgotten. I appreciate the effort that various groups are doing, preserving their film copies on 16mm film, 35mm films, and Harmy's Despecialized Edition, that digitally restores and preserves the original trilogy as it was first in theatres, in high quality and definition. The only downside is that they're doing it without the approval of Lucasfilm (or in this case Disney), which means that it's illegal. They're never going to approve this effort, which is a shame.

The music and everything, it simply matches, this simply is Star Wars. And inspite of the fact that the last movie has some very serious flaws, it still has this Star Wars atmosphere and it feels like Star Wars, and does not butcher the characters and plot of the original movies. You take one look at the picture and hear the music and you know you are watching Star Wars. And no other movie, no matter what they were, have ever managed to recreate this in any way or create something new that feels like this. So there are only three Star Wars movies in existence, the other movies that call themselves by those names do not exist. They are movies, but not Star Wars. You can keep this religious garbage in the end for yourself, however. This Jesus guy dissapointed every one whoever believed in him, calling himself the creator, but forsakes his creation when they need him the most even though he is responsible for his creation when he designed them so that little children could not be raped and murdered, but it has been happing anyways!

What's it with bible thumpers needing to cram their religion absolutely everywhere like with the bible quotes at the end of every one of these 16mm un-restored print videos?
