I like my vintage watches. I wanted to buy my first vintage HMT and it ended up being a frankin. It had an arrow on the dial. Hand painted lume but India dial and snap case back with generic numbers mimicking real service numbers. I wish I was in the group before I bought the watch but like you said.. it truly doesn't matter what others think... If you like it, you like it.

Great video....I just purchased four HMT watches (one Avinash, one Jubilee, and two Pilots). I think three are “frankenwatches” as you say. This doesn’t bother me in the least, but I’m very appreciative of your video, that explains some of the things to look for when purchasing and collecting. I know I’ll be buying more in the future Ave now I know more of what to look for if I want full original and authentic HMT versions.

Hi! I’m new to HMT watches but have silently admired the Pilot, when I located one I grabbed it immediately but to my dismay it turned out to be fake and I found that out due to this video. You should never touch movement with your fingers - the acid and sweat on your hands will effect and 'rust' the movement overtime.

It is 2019 now and I am seeing plenty of Franken HMT watches on eBay with "Made in India" or "Made in India 0231" printed at the bottom of the dial. So they are catching up !

Good video. You didn't mention from where we do get original hmt watch . When I was a child, my dad used to wear hmt watch. Later he switched to Titan. After many yrs,he changed his watch. I remember so well, what are all things I did with my dad's watch...lol. It was a robust one. I bought handwinding hmt pilot from amazon , but I know it is Franken watch. But it works good as of now. I really want to one a Hand winding good original HMT watch. ( not quartz). I even learned from you, hmt has it's own movement mechanism unlike other foreign watch makers who render the movement from other reputed organizations from abroad and assemble their watch in their own taste and style. Now, there is one watch maker, delhi watch company - they are promising that they would be coming up with mechanical handwinding and automatic winding (rotar based) watches within 3 months using hmt movement mechanism inside. Other than hmt, good old company is casio and citizen which was quite popular , they came out with digital display , quartz based watches which killed the analog segment on late 1980s. Now , people are realizing how nice to have those variants , spring based mechanical watch which doesn't need any battery power.

this is much needed especially for overseas buyers who buy franken and later crib about its quality

I might have bought a Franken-Watch, but it runs just fine. For now. I bought it for the yellow dial. If it's not original, it's very well made I have to say. I think I will start a collection. Does all of this apply to the newer versions of Pilot? Is the lume still hand applied on newer pilot versions?

I think for the small price and simplicity of that manual wind that if you want a Pilot or the Citizens they sell in the India watch mills they are worth taking a chance on.

I love my "made Pilot" frankin built with India under the six. I don't care if it's built from others, as long as it's from the wonderful country of India built of Indian hands of HMT parts. It keeps almost perfect time by mechanical standard.

They are what they are refurbished watches , some of the dial configurations are cool and if you want original they aren't alot more.

You will also find the lume on the reap hmt actually is lume and not simply lume coloured paint on the dial it will be visible at night.

I have recently purchased hmt pilot black from HMT website. The endices are not printed there is not tear drop effect but INDIA on right and 0231A on the left handside of 6 is written. Dear thanks! Great info. But it is rather appalling to note that even HMT is now offering PILOT Black dial watch with a dial that is akin to a franken one! The same printed big lume dots and not the tear drop hand applied type.

I bought mine from UK on ebay. The lume and everything else seems ok but just says India as manufacturer. It was only £15 but will be first and last foray into Indian watches. Cannot seem to find originals anywhere and ebay full of con men rip off merchants

Dude may be the watch is really franken but the points on which you are judging doesn’t make any sense. Thing is HMT doesn’t have any consistency on cosmetic side of a particular model. As an example I recently bought a HMT jubilee from jalahalli showroom in Bangalore of which it is written only “India” at the bottom of the watch face.So I appreciate your effort on guiding people to avoid counterfeit HMT items from ebay or so. But before that you should gather more knowledge on the originals.
