This second tutorial is focused on the untextured mesh : the ability to visualize its level of refinement, the parameters that are meaningful to modify that level, possibly only locally over airports, and the way alternative elevation sources can be used.

Sir, I think your two tutorials on your Ortho4XP are wonderful, and I would like to add I have just managed to get the Binary file for V130. it has taken me a long time. Anway I think your videos are excellent and I for oe would like to see more. thank you Charles uk 84 yrs.

Great videos Oscar, tres bien ! Now you turned the software up a few levels I must say, and got way wasier to rember the steps what to to with the new layout and most likely the simple explanation! Thanks a million

Hello Oscar awsome tuturial and thank you for what you do! Ortho4xp is a tool that literally brings life to X-plane. Have you consider payware? Anyhow in the tool to view mesh I got it to work but cannot find to properly zoom. If I zoom with the + or - key after like three zooms it idsappears and i have to zoom out I cant get close like you do. Is there a command key list? Also do your the airport smoothing pix when using multiple sources for mesh.? Thanks in advance

Medit is an awesome addition! Waiting for the Mac OS version. Ortho is just a wonderful tool!

In the meantime you may try the one available on the author's (Pascal Frey) webpage (it says it was compiled for OSX 10.4), only the colors would differ.

Unfortunately it's only for old PowerPC processors. So I'll impatiently wait for your release. The ability to check the final mesh before making the tile is stunning

I miss my debian! Nice tutorial btw. I'm trying to refine elevation at LPPT because theres has an exaggerated bump on rwy 21.The elevation source is viewfinderpanormas, I did not find a better elevation source for Portugal. I will check with medit tool to see whats going on under the hood, and try to apply a patch. The elevation source is viewfinderpanormas, I did not find a better source to for that area. +1 Oscar - This tutorial is amazing! I had to watch it twice to get more details. I have watched your other two v130 tutorials. Is it possible for you to PLEASE provide a mesh edit/patch tutorial? Also, I see other apps/utilities in the Ortho4XP/utils directory. Would those be helpful to us? If so, could you please provide a tutorial to include them. Thanks so much! BTW, just subscribed. 😁 A suggestion... It appears you are recording these videos in 4K. The text is so tiny it is extremely difficult to read on my 24" 1080p monitor. I'm sure others are having the same issue. Cheers from Thailand!

I saw your third tutorial. What are the attributs we can add to modify a runway? ele= XXX / profile= atanh or spline... Is it possible to set a slope angle for example at Courchevel one part at 18% and one at 12%...

Une belle évolution, j'adore le mesh plus précis autour des aéroports ainsi que la définition des images satellites. Par contre pas utilisable instantanément chez moi, il m'a fallu télécharger autre version de nvcompress. Ensuite j'ai des soucis avec les patchs créés avec Josm parfois. On peut éditer l'osm data dans ortho4xp pour supprimer les valeurs de l'aeroport qui bug, sauf que l'on perd du coup l apt curv tol ultra précis proposé par cette nouvelle version.

Really enjoyed your presentation and technical aspect of information. One thing I can't figure out is what tools are used for x plane 11.4+ to create underpasses for taxiways where the underpass is below the airport elevation. Some good examples are Munich EDDM and Charles de Gaul LFPG. Thanks!

Nice to have a tutorial for the new version of the software, but what I'm personally looking for is a configuration tutorial to get the best scenery out of Ortho4XP. I am struggling so much and it can really help if you could make a tutorial on how to get the best scenery out of Ortho4XP. I don't know what values, formats, wether I should use OSM or GO2 Maybe BI and how to use all of those with HD mesh scenery v4. Thanks Oscar anyways.

I bought at IGN a 1 meter resolution elevation data for 2 square km arround LFLJ. What is the good way to use it in ortho4xp?

an excellent tutorial! A pleasure to understand in depth the power of your software! Regarding high resolution mesh in Europe (France, Switzerland, Alps), is there an equivalent to the data available for the USA ?

This wiki already contains a number of sources for various countries, but its not all of them either. github.com/openterrain/openterrain/wiki/Terrain-Data. For the Alps, northern Italy, Austria and Slovenia have complete data (from many local sources for Italy). Switzerland and France are slowly coming into it too, but its only partial at present.

My apologies for such a newby question, in Linux (Ubuntu 20.4) how did you associate the .mesh file to medit-2.3-linux? and what program does medit-2.3-linux use for it to run? I have gone through the installation several times, and I know this isn;t an issue with Orth4XP itself, I just cant find anywhere on the net to view the mesh file (it defaults to the Text Editor program).

are the default config values sufficient for most tiles? or do you recommend a different set of data? In other words, is the default numbers something you chose to be a good balance for most terrain types? one thing that might be helpful is to have a set of config values for different types of terrain...so perhaps have a pull down selection of different "config types" that we can choose from that could be , maybe 12 different types or perhaps just 6 different types....for example.... 1 thru 6 where 1 is for areas of mostly flat terrain, 2 for areas with small hill and undulations, 3 for very hilly, 4 for hilly with high hills, 5 for small mountainous & 6 for med. to high mountainous. After choosing the terrain type, it would populate all the fields automatically with your pre-set values. Perhaps number 7 is the custom (or number 1) which allows all fields to be changed. That would ease some of the discomfort of not knowing how to adjust all of those very complex parameters thus we are "picking your brain" and using your vast knowledge to make educated guesses as opposed to blindly throwing darts and making a mess of things. Bravo to you for the improvements in 1.30 and for putting this video together !!!

Oscar. I want to make a specific mesh modification. I'm working on Kai Tak VHHX using SLAI's scenery. I know this is defunct, but many simmers still want to experience the challenging checkerboard approach to RW13. The current mesh draws the runway and apron peninsula at absolute sea level. This looks totally unrealistic, like it may become waterlogged at any time. The actual airfield height is 4.6m. Is there any easy way to correct this, legally? Appreciate any tips or pointers you can give. Thank you for all your work. Kev

Yes, a patch file. There are existing videos about patch creation, and probably also online indications. The only difference in v130 with respecto to v120b is the directory structure, like for many other features the files need to be one level further in v130 (like Patches/+40+000/+45+006/ instead of Patches/+45+006/).

I guess everything changed now. At the USGS site I only get a TIF download (of the Kentucky Regional Airport - KRGA). And once again, what was going so well, suddently stops in its tracks. Any ideas about how to do this now? Thank you.

On the video itsays TNM Download (v 1.0). Now it's (v 2.0) and I only see TIF for download. TIF is not a dataset, right? It's an image.

It is an amazing tutorial. Ortho4XP accepted the TIF as the second dataset. But I did everything following the tutorial and saw no changes on my mesh on XP11. After all the re-triangulations, the mesh was the exact same. But thank you anyway.

Oscar thoroughly enjoying 1.30! Created tile +32-082 with a curv_tol 2.0, apt_curve_tol 0.1, ext 1.5 and NED 1/3". Was taxiing KSAV at A3 A and the smoothness wasn't there as it very much has been at other airports/tiles I've done. Checked the mesh tile with Medit and noticed some 14 airports had the tolerances applied but not KSAV. That explained it. Question, would it be possible at some point to have the option to select only the airports you want to have the tolerances applied to instead of like this tile, 14+ airports? Would help save a bit of gigs! Thanks again!

Mesh density shouldn't turn into more disk space (dds textures will be the same). Regarding the airport not included with, have a look at tutorial n°3.

Hi Oscar. I really appreciate this video and your explanation of the new 1.30. I am having difficulty though associating the mesh file with the medit-2.3-win program in the Utils folder. I have right clicked on the mesh file and selected 'open with' but medit isn't there so i selected 'look for an app in the Store'. Searched 'medit' but no returns. I also double clicked the medit program in Utils and it opens a window where I copied and pasted the mesh file, pressed enter but the window simply closes and I don't have the wire mesh representation opening. I am a bit anxious to start experimenting with the tolerances as you have in your video. Any advice? Thanks.

Don't you have an option to select the app for opening (medit-2.3-win) manually ? I mean by browsing through the directories after the right-click.

You are right, my mistake. I clicked on 'More apps' and Medit wasn't there but I didn't scroll all the way down to see 'Look for another app on this PC'. Everything working perfect now and excited about starting to explore! Thanks again for another great video!

Yes. It will actually only rebuild the .dsf, since the imagery is already there, so the process will be fast.

Bonjour, j'aurais besoin de vos lumières.. J'avais créé des patchs pour Ortho4XP1.2 (notamment pour LF2622 Bellegarde), je devais éditer osm data et supprimer ses données dans Josm pour ne pas avoir d'aberrations de mesh, je suis passé sur Ortho1.3 et j'ai le meme souci mais en supprimant les données osm data je perds aussi le maillage plus précis qu'offre la version 1.3. C'est dommage car c'est vraiment intéressant tout comme le maillage des routes et des pistes proposé dans la nouvelle version d'Ortho4xp. Quel est le soucis on dirait que ca crée un conflit, je me trouve avec une piste en dents de scie. Merci

Bellegarde a la particularité dans JOSM que deux pistes s'y chevauvent tout du long, je vous conseillerais d'essayer sans patch mais de supprimer au moyen de JOSM (et uniquement de vos données locales bien sûr) une des deux pistes, par exemple celle en asphalte car celle en herbe est la plus longue.

@@oscarpilote8068 Je comprends pas trop comment sont utilisées les données d'osm data dans la création du mesh vu que là en l'occurence il n' apparait aucune donnée d'élévation ou quoique ce soit. La taille de sélection des noeuds de la piste joue pour quelque chose ? Pourquoi est symbolisé la piste ainsi que le pourtour, les 2 ont leur utilité ? Merci pour vos réponses et pour votre travail, Ortho4xp est le logiciel qui m'a convaincu de passer sur X-Plane.

HI, thank you for taking the time to make this tutorials! I'm having a issue when i try to use more Ferranti dataset and 2 custom dataset from my goverment database, only one them shows up in the mesh, can we use more than 2 datasets? Thanks!

Yes, as many as you want. Each time you need to increase the iterate number by one. Make sure also that your datasets are in epsg:4326 (if not they need first to be reprojected, gdalwarp is really helpful for that).

As I'm playing w/ varying mesh qualities, is it necessary to also redo drawing water masks, and building imagery/dsf to see the change in xplane? I'm working out an issue with poor FPS in game, and it's somehow related to my ortho scenery. I'm guessing it's because I set 0.5 curv tol for the meshes, so they have very high triangle numbers (in the millions...). I've been re-triangulating the meshes but I don't see any change in game. I'm guessing I need to redo all of the steps for it to make use of of my updated meshes with lower tol value?

You don't need to redo the masks (they only depend on the coastline position), but you need to redo the dsf yes (that is the only think X-Plane knows about). I doubt triangle count would be the main issue if you have some.

@@oscarpilote8068 Ok thanks. Yes, I discovered the triangle count was not the problem. For some reason in my case when I load up more than a few tiles of ortho scenery at a time, x-plane has very low FPS for me. I think I narrowed it down to having too many zones of high zoom levels.

It is an executable, you can use it in command line followed by the .mesh file you wish to visualize. It is linked against the GLUT library, so you might need to install the freeglut3 (or whatever it is called in your distro) package if you do not have it yet.
