I latched onto Rue as my favourite character from the very start and I felt so, so justified when the reveal came. I love unglamoured Rue and I LOVE immensely supportive Wuvvy. Last episode made me scream so much.

I know Oscar probably created this scenario based on sexuality-wise coming out(s) but being trans I can tell you this works so well as a trans allegory especially presenting yourself to the world as you (really are) and fearing rejection. Mad respect that Oscar left it up to a die roll (which is realistic but tbh nobody would fault him for being a little unrealistic! We are talking Fey Magic after all) Either way Rue's "coming out" meant the world to me Q.Q

For him, sure -- probably had more to do with sexuality rather than sexual identity. Coming out queer is coming out queer, though, regardless. You're just as much thought of and included in that message. Love you 💜 fearlessness looks good on you (;

That adventuring party was such an oh moment for me, I teared up. I've been struggling with gender stuff for quite some time and Oscar talking about the whole "what would happen if i stopped acting as someone that I was not and started living my life as someone that I actually have always been?" and "queer children putting on their glamors" fucked me up real good. That AP helped so much in my journey of acceptance for myself and being open about who I am with friends. I am trying to remember the sentiment in day to day life so having this video on KZfaq to rewatch any time I need to is really helpful.

I'm queer and Neurodivergent, and the unmasking Oscar is talking about feel very similar to the unmasking process i'm still working through to stop masking my autism and my adhd, it's a beautiful metaphor for coming out AND for unmasking neurodivergency and fearing not being accepted when we show who we actually are
@MsCunningLinguistic

As a queer ND with ADHD and autism I feel you so hard. I'm consciously trying to unmask more in my life now, and like Oscar says, it feels like a die roll every time. But a month ago I stimmed in public (for me it's spirit fingers and soft finger snaps), and a mother with a child saw me doing it. I could tell from her stricken face that she knew what I was doing and was taken aback by how happy (and 'out') I were. Then she gave me a huge, relieved smile, I waved at them both, and we went our separate ways. I think that made a difference. ❤

As someone who’s always been a bit of a late bloomer, my sexuality and gender identity was something I’ve been figuring out over the past few years, and coming into that has been one of the best things to happen to me The discussion of the cast about welcoming people and their authentic selves is amazing, I love these people
@some_other_guy

I love this. I love seeing these people being so accepting and if it helps literally ONE person, and it looks like it did, then they've accomplished great things. I want everyone to be happy with who they are, it saddens me deeply that not everyone has the luxury to do that. I've been writing this comment as I watch this vid and I'm just crying now.

I think Role-play is a great way to explore different aspects of your personality. Not just queer personality traits, but trying on aspects of heterosexuality, or confidence, or maliciousness, or religion/atheism. That said, it is an especially great place to try on queer aspects of personality or find metaphors for wearing that face when you are ready. I had some time to explain my aspects and perspective on tearing down gender identity without necessarily being or not being genderqueer to my dad today (I am cis, mostly het male but I like exploring things that are very traditionally female). Role-playing games in person and online gave me a chance to try on different parts of that. In concert with therapy and real world experience I have been able to define aspects of myself and see my friends who are even less traditional in New lights.

for me, coming out is one thing, coming into yourself is a complete other thing. the euphoria only comes not when you've admitted that you are whatever you are, but you embrace it within and throughout yourself!

This is the first season I've watched adventuring party for, as i only caught up with d20 at the beginning of starstruck, and that was coming out at a really crazy time in my life. I've also got adhd so an hour+ talk show (despite it being about stuff i love and with people i find very insightful and entertaining) is a bit intimidating to me. I'm SO glad i gave this season's AP a shot! (Also for those who don't watch, this season's episodes are 30-40 minutes, which was way more approachable to me.) It's been so good! From hilarious moments to really heartwarming and real moments like this one. This cast is stellar, both as performers and as human beings 🧡🧡

Oscar making me cry. I'm Bisexual but I never felt the need to come out, I'm only slightly outside norms with liking the opposite gender and liking the same gender. Liking both in my personal experience never seemed like it would matter to my family(Considering me and my other 3 sisters are all bisexual), so I never really had to deal with that fear of being rejected or hurt, but I know a lot of other people who have had to deal with that fear, and literally being beaten up for being any part of LGBTQ+. I love how Rue was so accepted and it was very sweet to hear Oscar and Aabria talking about it, it literally teared me up.

...Hmm. I think of this same kind of scene happening in the Sandman graphic novels, leading to the fey refusing to glamour being exiled by Titania- and I think that's more on-brand for the Fey, especially given the nature of the Court of Wonder as established. Petty, uncaringly cruel, and indifferent to the suffering of others is very much their hallmark and always has been... But this IS a performance in the end, and I think this is a better message for the audience. Besides, it lends support to the notion that this game is all an effort of fey propaganda, and I think everyone involved would enjoy that notion!
@prcs420
@prcs420 Жыл бұрын
yeah i definitely see that, i think the regency element of it is what shifted it, just because rue is such a significant figure in the court and because their owlbear form wasn't necessarily UGLY, just very different to what they were publicly known to be. so it's more the scandal of the reveal, then the reveal itself being hideous. but like they say it's a die roll and an allegory so it's all very nebulous and shifty!

As Malinda says in her song I'm Not There Yet, "I know that I am loved to my core. Even if not by the ones I hoped for." If there's anyone reading this comment and they're in the closet, I highly recommend that song. It feels like a warm hug to those of us who can't/won't come out. And know that you're oh so loved by those around you, and if not by them, then by me. You are not a mistake. You are not wrong for feeling the feelings and/or for figuring out who you are. You deserve to be loved, you deserve to be here, and you make the world better by just existing. You're beautiful and you deserve to see yourself as such. You, and your feelings and your identity, are so incredibly valid. Now take any meds you need to take, drink some water, and take care of yourselves. Because you deserve it

When this was revealed part of me realized "wait can this be a negative thing?!" Because the moment they appeared without glamour was after the duel. So anyone had a good opportunity to say "rue revealed their true self to get sympathetic points or to diminish the severity of yesterday's duel" Ah so much soap opera energy!
