In 1977 i met Oscar Peterson and had a nice long chat with him. Now I'm using your excellent tutorial here to teach and inspire my 11 year old to play some great jazz. Thanks.

This is not the first video I've seen. David, your tutorials are VERY clear and self-explanatory. This in itself is a rarity. You're very methodical, which is also a rarity in the "Jazz" field. Too many people believe that just learning licks and phrases can make you sound "jazzy". Wrong, it takes method and understanding. I think you're something of a young Master my friend. Use this God-given (for that it is) gift well. Thank you for sharing and posting these enlightening videos. I wish all the best from Paris.

James Anderson Thats a lot of work but the more we do it, it becomes almost exponentially easier. Doing it in various keys makes us looser and relaxed brought on by confidence. One thing that i try to practice is using a variety of finger patterns so i can change up very quickly.

David I've commented several times on this I tried different fingerings and after awhile that fingering suggestion seems to come naturally. i play kind of a natural swing but this seems to be a stacato effect almost there doesn't seem to be the long short sound it seems like every eighth note is equal except for occasional emphasis and loudness on certain notes.. I will be putting my friends in touch with you channel.. sorry for reposting thanks for making the piano keys a little larger.

Do you have a MIDI and / or the sheet music of C Jam Blues? I have a MIDI file but it must be corrupt because the timing's all wrong when I try to generate a score from it.

Hello, I really like your videos but I’m quite the beginner theory-wise. What kind of scale is used here? At first I thought it was just a normal c-blues scale, but it seems that quite a few more tones are used. So what scale am I looking at here :)?
@marcusstoica
@marcusstoica 4 жыл бұрын
I don't believe Oscar thought of any scale other than the major (possibly the major blues) scale here. You should think of the "extra" notes as approach tones, and the notes that are in the scale mentioned should really be thought of as chord tones that he is hitting. Approach tones are frequently used by Bebop players such as Oscar which help to describe the presence of altered tones such as the sharp 9 and flat 5 in measure 1 (D#, F# respectively).
