I've been using and testing the North Face Resolve 2 men's rain jacket for a few months now. I've been using it while hiking, running, cycling, and in regular daily situations. Now, I'm ready to reveal all the good and the bad about this jacket.
Let's start with the good. The North Face Resolve 2 is 100% waterproof, and 100% windproof, at least based on my own tests and experience. When you wear it, it feels like you're wearing a winter jacket, because it doesn't let through any wind whatsoever.
Another thing that I like, is that it fits me very well. Although it's a bit loose around the chest and the hips, that's actually good because that allows me to layer other items underneath, to achieve good warmth. Other than that, I think that the North Face Resolve 2 is a pretty good-looking rain jacket, which can also be worn daily, not only while hiking.
But there are a few things that I don't like about the North Face Resolve 2 men's rain jacket. First of all, it's very bad at breathability. It's okay for hiking, walking, or commuting, but you'll get too sweaty whenever you'll be running, cycling, or doing some high-difficulty trails. Other than that, it's pretty heavy, it isn't very compact in a packed state, and the elastic sleeve cuffs are a bit too loose.
I'd recommend the North Face Resolve 2 if you're looking for an affordable, fully waterproof rain jacket, that's versatile enough to be used daily, and also while hiking. But I wouldn't recommend it if you'll be doing some high-effort activities in the rain, such as running or cycling, or if you're into ultralight hiking. In those instances, you should get something lighter and more breathable, such as the Marmot Precip, or the North Face Venture 2.

This is the best review I have seen for this jacket. I have the Resolve 1, which is a little heavier and I think that the Resolve 2 would be perfect for the Southern California evenings.

Upon watching this review I bought this jacket on sale from TNF. Excellent review. Since purchase I have used it for hiking on a medium difficulty trail. Everything he says is exactly correct.

crazy i just bought a size Large i am only 5'10 i wasnt able to try it on but north face runs big for some reason, i am a big guy so i thought this would fit, now this jacket is hard to get now in that color, i have to wait till it comes home to try it on thank god they have a bunch of Medium sizes left so if th elarge doest fit i can return it for a M size.. i thought when you wear rain jackets i thought you wanted them bigger incase you want to wear something underneath..

If I'd be wearing something warm underneath, then yes, definitely. It's really good at wind protection, which makes it very warm.

Venture 2 is more breathable, and both are similarly baggy. Resolve 2 seems to be a bit shorter, so my hips are sometimes showing when I put my hands up.

Hey. Yep, I also own the North Face Venture 2. I will review it in the future and do a side by side comparison as well, but at the moment I'm dealing with moving to another country, so it might take a while. In a few words, I prefer the Venture 2 because of my lifestyle. It's much lighter, it packs down smaller into it's own pocket, and it's much better at breathability - you don't get sweaty when cycling, running or hiking. However, I will choose the Resolver 2 in colder days, just because it's warmer and in my opinion looks better. For instance, it would be a much better choice if you'd be hiking in the mountains in 5-10 degree Celsius windy conditions. I find myself in these temperatures and winds rarely, which is why I use the Venture 2 much more often. Oh and the rain-resistance seems to be the same - both of them are basically waterproof. Hope this helps!

I'd say they're sized on the larger side. I always get everything in medium, and I still have a lot of room under this jacket. You can skip to 03:48, where I show my own measurements and how it fits for me.

I just went to try these on and I have to go a size larger because it was tight in my back shoulders (I have broad shoulders) .. I also prefer to layer with a hoodie just in case I want to layer up and use as light ski jacket.

Is a wind breaker a rain jacket?

Windbreakers are usually much more breathable, thinner and more comfortable, and aren't waterproof. The North Face Resolve 2 is definitely a rain jacket, as it's waterproof, very good at wind-resistance, and kind of bulky. Windbreakers are better for running, hunting, cycling, and other outdoor activities where you don't care about getting wet.

Is the hood absolutely enormous or is my jacket just defective? If I pull the draw strings it simply restricts my vision as it only tightens the opening of the hood. I have to wear a hat with hood to keep it out of my face regardless of how I adjust it. I could easily wear a bike helmet in this hood and probably have room to spare, and I have a big ass head.

These jackets fit large, so you need to get the next size down from your usual size

Well, the hood is definitely quite large. But I wouldn't say that it's enormous, which is why I didn't mention that in the video. When I'm cycling with this jacket with the hood on, because I have to tilt my head back when sitting on a bicycle, the hood does get in my view a bit but not too much. But then again, I rarely wear this jacket when I'm cycling because it's kinda bad at the breathability. When hiking normally, I wouldn't say that the hood feels too large, at least for me.

No worries man, The whole overall fit of the jacket is on the large side, i wouldn't even class this as just a rain coat, i wear this is winter and it keeps me very warm with a sweatshirt underneath, it's a decent all round jacket

The white inner liner gets brittle and peels in a horrible way. After that even the lightest rain will get you soaked. Most over priced jacket I have ever owned.

north face has warranty on the materials, send it back., I wouldn't consider that to be normal wear and tear if it is acting like that.
