It is a pity that there is not more interest in Films of the Silent Era. I think, given an opportunity, a Critical Mass would embrace them & most urban areas would have @ least one place in most cities where this Art Form could be actively & easily enjoyed on the Big Screen.

So many of the film directors of the Hollywood "golden age" were schooled in the silent era. Has this influence ever been examined in the films of the sound era? How was silent cinematography preserved, or perhaps, distorted, or improved?

He hits the nail on the head about "a generation that was brainwashed". Here in the USA, a TV program , a comedy series (Fractured Flickers) hosted by actor Hans Conreid back in the late 60's or early 70's mocked silent films intentionally for laughs. An attitude of malicious contempt with a mocking voice over commentary. Shown with bad prints and at the wrong playback speed.
