Jimmy Stewart and he were great friends despite their political differences...they had a physical fight over politics once and then they both decided never to talk about politics ever again because they valued their friendship more. They don't make actors like those two anymore. I loved them both.

Henry Fonda didn't even need the honorary Oscar. I think he is the only person to have ever won an Honorary Oscar, and later went on to win a competitive Oscar. What's tragic was that he won for his final film role. The Academy was late to recognize him, but at least he was alive when he won.

"He was shaking. I leaned in closer and shouted over the music and applause that was starting: 'Make them stand up for you, Henry. You deserve it.' I turned and ran for the wings as the screen began to rise. The audience was applauding, and suddenly he didn't need his cane. He stood tall and elegant. The audience began to stand and as he walked toward a smiling Robert Redford, the entire audience, all two thousand of them, rose up in unison to their feet." -Norman Jewison

@panapaok - or for the movie Jezebel. In 1938, both Bette Davis and Fay Bainter won the Academy Awards in the Best Actress & Best Supporting Actress categories for their roles in the film. Fay Bainter was also nominated in 1938 for the Best Actress Oscar for the film White Banners but lost to her Jezebel co-star. Bette Davis apparently hand picked him to play the role of Press Dillard. We tend to be impressed by great actors such as Kirk Douglas, Pacino, Nicholson, George C Scott, Ed Begley, Tony Quinn, because from them we expect spectacular gestures, movements and dramatic uses of their voices, while others like Fonda, Stewart, Grant, Bogart and Cooper look so natural playing their characters that we take them for granted, ignoring that lots of years of training and hard work are needed to reach that level of stage dominance. I remember reading about Hank Fonda on acting, summarizing it by saying something like "the wheels shouldn't be seen". Spencer Tracy simply said "Know your lines and don't bump into the furniture". Lee Strasburg said "Don't act". For some of them it looks so easy while others seem to be struggling, so burdened, as if carrying an enormous weight. Talent is manifested in so many different ways that I find it so fascinating !!! Blessings from San Juan PR !!!

I had a teacher in high school--70s--that had two huge posters in her English classroom. The one behind her: Emily Dickenson: the one in front of her: Robert Redford. Needless to say, we spent a couple of weeks on The Great Gatsby, and had a screening. She made no bones about her adoration. We all teased her, and she was a great sport. We boys demanded equal time, and we didn't buy that Emily gave us that. So one day we came in and there was Farrah in her red swimsuit and with her famous feathered hair.
