This is the scenario playing in my mind right now. "Come here kids. This is the beauty and wonder of nature. See these beautiful osprey chicks? Safe and protected by their parents? OH CRAP!!!!!!!!" The children may need months of counseling after that! Nature is not a fairy tale, it is beautiful but sometimes harsh and cruel as well.

Actually while the eagle may have its larger size as an advantage - the great horned owl is stronger. PSI in an eagles talons is around 250 and in a great horned owl it's around 500!!

Lesson learned by the parents. Guard your young at all costs. Especially when Great Horned Owls are nearby. Hey it's life. Owls lose chicks too. Raptors are predators to the max.

That does look strange, Joe. I watched a red tailed hawk cam, a heron cam and an osprey cam last year and the mother ALWAYS guarded the chicks at night. The mother heron even fought off a GHO. There is a video of it on this site.

now you are wrong. Eagles can also be killed by owls. Both has chance of winning as well as losing. They get attacked by night all the time. A lot eagles abandoned their nest before because of owls chasing them.

There has been an adult right in front of the camera so it is hard to tell how many are left. Nature can be so cruel....

owls can't even take any eaglet coz they're scared of the parents way bigger than them and aggressive. owls scare them away or attack but can't take their eaglets

Owl mothers always look after their babies regardless what you say is completely wrong. Look up some things about nature and mothers that look after & protect their babies from any kind of bird or whatever of harming them, the mom will protect them. It's common sense. Learn about it and stop talking until you're relieved.

and they prey al almost on the same prey but they owls has a far big menu choice then the eagles. search here on youtube when owl attacks. you will see one of them attacking a vulture and grabbing by it's neack. Now do eagles prey on vultures? No they don't too big and to powerful to be killed by eagles but not as powerful to be killed by owls. You see, and LOOk at the size of a vulture, far bigger than Eagle.

Charles De Aquino what vulture are you talking about bald eagle is larger than the turkey vulture .. An eagle will destroy an owl in a fight there are pics and videos , now an owl will attack an eagle at night but it's either on a young or to confuse the parents but never as

I don't think this owls are afraid of eagles. They do attack eagle next at night too. Both weight almost the same. Eagles would not prey on them.

Owls are amazing birds too just like Osprey. I am sure the owl has chicks to feed too, that is just how it is. I think we all get shocked too when we see a lioness take down a cute baby water buffalo until we see those cute lion cubs that she has to feed. Animals can't go to the grocery store and get Gerber's for their young, this is just the way it is. To call it tragic is a bit much, it is how nature works. I think the cowsand pigs we eat every day suffer a much worse death than this.
