So this edit I made today is about East German soldiers and border guards with the East German disco song called "Man weiß ja nie" by Die Caufner Schwestern.
The video shows footage from the Grenztruppen and the Nationale Volksarmee.
The NVA had around 176,850 soldiers in service during peace time, according to data from 1990.
But around 561,350 soldiers would have fought if it became war, according to data from 1990.
And the Grenztruppen had around 47,000 members

Значение ГДР как для Советского Союза, так и для всего Социалистического лагеря было огромным. Восточная Германия была самой западной страной соцблока и непосредственно граничила с ФРГ и размещенными на её территориями американскими войсками. Именно ГДР в случае возможной войны в Европе между Западом и СССР первой должна была встретить противника. Фактически, восточная Германия стала щитом, надежно прикрывавшим СССР и его восточноевропейских союзников.
