What is also important to mention, lower AR usually result in higher UR too since they appear longer. For example I, as mid 5 digit gets like 140 ur on most maps of maps my skill level with AR 9+, but whenever I play 2*s with AR 5 I still usually think 160 ur is good and average on 210 ur or so.

It's important to note that unstable rate doesn't get rid of outliers so it's possible to get insanely high UR values in mania on long note songs just by hitting a long note really late or releasing too early. This makes UR almost completely useless on noodle maps in mania.

Good video overall, I just wish you talked about the hz of the keyboard and how it affects the consistency of your inputs. Tokaku talked about it in this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nsuKidCjnszdnps.html but even then I feel like she didn't fully explain why inconsistent (125hz) inputs are bad for rhythm games. Just think about how you manage to stay on beat when playing a map. You listen to the music, you might hear your fingers tapping, but most importantly, you are hearing the hitsounds in game. The hitsounds you hear from in-game are not reliable points of reference for staying on beat, because even if you tap almost exactly on point your input can be delayed by almost 8ms if you tap right after a poll. But you still use hitsounds because even if they aren't as accurate as they would have been on a keyboard with higher polling rate, they at least give you something to work with. inb4 "it's only 8ms, me and my friend Allan play on 125hz and we have SSed several maps with OD 10" I'm not saying you can't get high accuracy with low polling rate keyboards. I'm saying that it will limit your ability to achieve a lower UR and be able to reliably and consistently get high accuracy on higher OD's, because your body cannot account for the keyboards polling rate. This would all have been a different story if we knew that EVERY input was delayed by 8ms, but unfortunately this is not the case with 125hz keyboards. That being said, I don't think most players should buy a new keyboard just because of this. Because most osu players don't take the game that seriously (especially when it comes to accuracy). And even if you are serious about the game and only play on 125hz you can still get insanely good. It does not prevent you from being a top player, but it will limit your potential in terms of accuracy and UR.

it’s definitely on the list! What I would suggest for now is to know that alternating is learned through brute force. What could make it easier is to play low BPM jump maps and really focus on alternating between the two fingers for the jumps and any other patterns if possible

Great video overall. I disagree that UR can't be practiced directly, tho. I think practicing consistently high accuracy / ss literally IS training your stability. Like there are loads of maps which I am capable of ss-ing if I really focus, but which I usually get around 95-97% on when playing for fun. The reason I'm inaccurate is not a lack of familiarity with the maps, as I've played them hundreds of times, it's a lack of stability. If I were to play for ss as my goal, I'd expect my UR on those maps to rapidly improve.

Normally yes, it's just a number... But when I'm working on getting acquainted with streaming in faster bpm, that isn't 200 or 210 even, and I play a map and I see my ur is 190, that's when I do care. It's a tangible way to see how comfortable I am tapping the bpm, in general.
@walktroughman1952
@walktroughman1952 2 жыл бұрын
(for those with ocd, no my ur isn't 190, it's 190 at around 250 bpm where I just found out how to tap speed. It's around 130 at 220 and doesn't really change until around 240)
@paiks611
@paiks611 2 жыл бұрын
So, while I think most of it is true, I think there are exceptions for when you should indeed care about your unstable rate. It's funny that you bring that topic up right now because yesterday I recognized that tapping consistensy is actually my biggest problem right now and leads to me not being able to fc maps with any kind of higher bpm jumps. The reason behind it is me switching to tapping with keyboard after entering the 5* range. I know the patterns, I got the speed, I have the reading but because my tapping is too inconsistent I miss these jumps because of my tapps getting too inconsistent after like the first 2-3 circles of the jump section. This problem is bothering me for a while now. Now I'd really like to know what is your opinion of this and what you would do in this kind of situation, and thanks for the video!
@Tonehhosu

I have never cared about my unstable rate personally. Ik what ur problem is, have faced that issue myself when I was relatively inexperienced but honestly I just played more jump maps and then tapping consistency improves from there. doesn’t get more complicated than that imo

@veltlion8924
@veltlion8924 2 жыл бұрын
In my experience keyboard polling rate doesn't matter that much for UR because I managed to get 63UR once and around 70ish consistently with a keyboard that polls at 62.5hz (although granted most is just 1/2 and 1/4 simple patterns). Polling rate does matter i guess if you want to get some crazy low UR (
@shinejnn2
@shinejnn2 2 жыл бұрын
@@veltlion8924 yeah simple patterns are fine. For harder patterns tho- I think with such low polling rate, it make it that our hitting frame window's inconsistently to be hit, especially with soo many different bpm combination out there.. since different bpm will affects the polling rate(like skips frames) tho it's just based on info' I've watched. Soo if with it, most of the time we really only can rely on the luck for the polling rate to give us a good hit framing window. You know I could be totally wrong, this is just how I think it is.
@veltlion8924
@veltlion8924 2 жыл бұрын
@@shinejnn2 yeah with my experience the only problematic part with polling rate that is lower than 500 is that it will have a chord splitting problem with the bpm that has the polling rate as its factor. Complex patterns is not a problem tbh as some of my friend can do 1/4+1/6 streams (taiko) with such a shit keyboard and still got a really low UR anyways.

Hey Tonehh! Yo, I'm going to ask a question a little out of context presented in the video, but it's been causing me a lot of difficulty lately, I don't know if you've addressed this in any of your videos but recently I've been facing the difficulty of, simply, a day to day, make my gameplay worse. For example, until a while ago I was in an absurd godmode, but all of a sudden my aim got worse along with everything else lol, I always wonder if this is normal, if it's a matter of sleeping less or something, I get imagining things like: "Oh, I held the pen like that and it was doing well", and I always used the same grip but it seems that every now and then I feel weird with it. Can you tell me if this is normal?
@Tonehhosu
@Tonehhosu 2 жыл бұрын
yes it’s normal, the variance in skill is high across every day. Some days you are shit, some days you are insane, some days you’re average. But it could be based on an exact skill, so where you’re shit at aim one day you might also be good at streams another day. So just rotate through different skills until you find something that’s fun/good to play or if nothing is good for the day just take a break or play for fun

informative good video, but personally playing i think digitalhypno's suggestion of a flamingo remix map thats just double on one map for 3 minutes, triples, quads etc, tightened my unstable rate. so would circle stream maps. not on a gameplay level but a physical training level. even wrist exercises helped my consistency. i feel like that could've been an addition onto "it comes with time" cause it could be a physical stamina issue or a rhythm-to-hand issue that could be ironed out?

@@adrenalr6334 ohh sorry I think I misread your comment a bit. @@lionheart982 I found the base skin osu.ppy.sh/community/forums/topics/211396?n=1 (but you will have to search up how to get the danser cursor trail yourself since that cursor trail is not built in game)

I love how you have to insist on the point of not training for lower UR like one have to insist a mongoloid not to drink bleach. I love it because I know at least a few folks didn't listen and went farming HR on maps 2 stars above their level.
