Her song “24” from the Honeymoon album is supposedly the rejected James Bond song she produced for the 24th Bond film. The filmmakers ultimately chose Sam Smith’s “Writing’s on the Wall” instead.

Lana Del Rey is one of the most influential artists of the decade and paved the way for artists like Lorde and Billie Eilish and alt pop artists to find success in the mainstream, she basically popularised the sad girl aesthetic. But the Grammys still pay her dust🚮

I also absolutely love Lana del ray, however I wouldn’t say she paved the way. The path has already been shaped by timeless legends like Amy Winehouse. She has no doubt influenced these new alt artists, however, I do have to respectfully disagree.

She's said that lana del rey is no a persona but just another version of herself she said she liked the name cause it sounded exotic, and she actually has music under a different named dated before lana del rey, but I know what you mean when you mention the alterego, she has a way of mixing real experiences from her life to histories she create, Carmen is inspired by her childhood and her problems with alcoholism during her teenage years. Nice reaction by the way

She also has an older album that was never released entitled ”Sirens” under a moniker ”May Jailer”. You can find both of them on SoundCloud. Absolutely love what you said about off to the races. In the verses she sings about her older man in a very deep mature voice but when she directly addresses him in the pre-chorus and chorus she sings in that high-pitched innocent little girl voice as if she is just luring him into thinking she is so dependent on him and let’s him take control but in reality she is the one who is in control bc she gets him to do whatever she wants by pretending to be helpless and crazy. My all-time favorite song

I have heard this song a million times and this is the first time I’ve noticed “born to die...we were born to die” in like a subtle electronic voice at 3:22, my god the detail, she left not one stone turned over

Great reaction! I loved your video and your observations, I think you are right about her "persona". As someone already commented, there are three more bonus tracks (Without You, Lolita, Lucky Ones). After the Born To Die album Lana released an EP "Paradise" (with some of her best songs), it's a transition between BTD and Ultraviolence album. And there are 5 bonus tracks also on Ultraviolence album (Black Beauty, Guns and Roses, Florida Kilos, Is This Happiness, Flipside). Also, her single "Young and Beautiful" (2013) from The Great Gatsby is one of her most popular songs. Looking forward to your next reaction!

There will be no more of those beats in the next four albums. Each one is a different experience. Hip hop for BTD, grunge for UV, ballad for HM, coachella/hippie vibe for LFL, Americana for NFR. But by each album, her voice becomes more and more defined and matured. Have fun~

Love the video - I would really like if you would take some time to absorb and analyze the lyrics because the darkness of the subject matters she explores adds another layer to the experience of listening to her albums. Can't wait to see more!

I like the idea of checking out an artists discography from beginning to their most current version/era. You should tackle someone as gargantuan in the music world as Madonna. Her name is certainly out there, everyone has an opinion on her herself, but most of our generation doesn't know much about her s t e l l a r body of work/music. Her evolution from her debut album- Madonna- to 'Ray of Light' is downright amazing to hear. BUT if you do, you HAVE to check out her music videos her visual artistry/elements go hand in hand with her actual music. Fav Lana song is blue velvet btw

Ultraviolence, to me, seems like her most personal album (although NFR comes close) I feel like you really get a peek into her experiences and thoughts and feelings in a less...performative way. Meaning that it's not as wrapped up in the glamour stuff and more a rawer version of herself that she gives us. BTD is by far my favorite album of hers but I truly love all of her stuff. Cant wait for you to do the paradise episode. Gods and Monsters is literally everything !!

Lana is a fan of poetry and literature, specifically Nabokov's Lolita. With that being said, the Carmen in the song may be a nod to the titular character of prosper merimee's novella, which is a tragic love story (a perpetual theme in lana's works)
