Oticon Own offers a complete modernization of Oticon's line of custom hearing aids for 2022. The previous family, Opn Custom, was released way back in 2018. I've been fitting Oticon Own for a few months, and now that I've got some hands-on experience-and heard plenty of feedback from my patients-I'm now ready to give you the low-down on whether upgrade might be worth it!

I would love to hear your feedback on these hearing aids. Which features are most Important to you in ANY hearing aid? Matthew

Great video Matthew. Thank you. I'm curious as to when, or if, Oticon will release an ITE hearing aid based on their new Oticon Real platform. My other question would be, in your opinion, does an ITE device provide better wind noise attenuation than a RIC device. Thanks.

I have the ITE Own and love them. Way better than my Oticon's from 2015. More powerful, clearer and the app. I think the sound quality is more natural. I hated the robotic tinny sounds and lack of power in Phonak, albeit that as awhile ago that I tried those.

People who sell or fit hearing aids seem enamored with the latest tech features but people who actually use them care much more about simple sound quality. Oticons bass-id-treble user control sounds great. The next step is to give us access to ALL 24 or however many bands at each of the different sound input levels. The "fitting formulas" that are used with the user's audiogram to program hearing aids are a brutally crude method of getting them to work well. The user needs some kind of fine grained, interactive way of setting the programming beyond "Could you turn the highs up a bit more?"

I still don't know if this hearing aid-or any other manufacturer's hearing aid-employ BT 5.2/5.3 WITH LC3 compression. Can you add comments about the delay in including the LC3 with Bluetooth? If I understand it correctly, LE Audio may-or may not-include LC3. I will not upgrade my current hearing aid UNTIL I am assured that LC3 is included.

Hey Jones, thanks for reaching out. It really does depend on your loss, so hard to say without seeing your profile and understanding your lifestyle. The Owns are pretty versatile though as you can see from the video. Thanks for watching, Matthew

@@HearingTracker I second this request. I would also like to hear from a users perspective. Most KZfaq reviews just discuss the features of the various hearing aids which is very useful but I would also like to hear from a user who compares sound quality in different situations. This would really help me to figure out what is best for my situation. Since I am in a rural location, I don't socialize in big groups or noisy venues very often. Most of my time is either spent indoors enjoying music, enjoying my Atmos home theater system, or working from home. The rest of my time is spent outdoors hiking, fishing, birding, etc. I am most concerned about hearing spatial cues so that I can hear the location of various sounds other than just speech. Speech clarity is important when in a conversation but I would like to hear birds and locate them, surround sound effects in my home theater, and jumping fish when fly fishing. These types of sounds are equally as important to me. I really want to know how well the new Oticon Own iic hearing aids perform compared to the Phonak virto titanium P90 hearing aids in these types of situations. Does the automatic sound program selection work well for these conditions when speech isn't the number one priority? Is a program selection button a necessity? Do I really need a CIC with NFMI connections between hearing aids in the the left and right ear to get proper spatial cues? Is DNN really an important feature that improves 360 degree hearing? Is the new Polaris chip really an improvement over the Paradise Prism chip? Answers to these types of questions are harder to find than just listing if a device supports bluetooth or not. Thanks for the videos as they are still a great help.

I wear More level 1, not Own, HA's, but that does mean I use the same app, on a Pixel 4 XL. I rate ON 2.5.0 (last updated Sept. 8, 2021) as adequate. For a More wearer, changing programs means using the rocker behind the left ear, volume is handled by the rocker behind the right ear. (Same as Own?) Digging out my phone, to tweak the HA's, isn't worth the bother. Not the app's fault. Where the app fails is the equalization applies >only< to Bluetooth streaming, not overall HA performance. Given streaming draws a lot of power, day-long "listening to tunes" is out. At least Own owners can drop in fresh batteries, and resume their personal concert. More owners can only wait out some period of recharging. If ON doesn't think it's connected to its HA's, it goes into demo mode. Unfortunately, locate mode is only useful when one or both HA's are lost, and probably disconnected. Which means ON will drop into demo mode. What to do? From personal experience, it turns out that the GPS "HA('s) last seen here" function does work, reporting the HA('s) last position, and user's current position (hint: in some cases it's necessary to zoom back from the map to see map's working - blame Android, blame, ON, blame your favorite pet peeve, it's all the same). NTL seeing "demo mode" isn't confidence-inspiring.
