Fun fact-during the Irish Famine, Abdulmejid I tried to donated £10,000 (£84,000 pounds today) to help the victims, but he was prevented from doing so by the British government because they didn't want him to donate more money than Queen Victoria did, so instead Abdulmejid donated £1000 plus 3-5 ships full of food.

The famous dream of Osman " Uthman" He dreamed that he saw the crescent coming inside his chest, and then a large tree came out that covered the three continents (Asia, Africa, Europe) and covered the four rivers, the Nile, the Tigris, the Euphrates, and the Danube.. The part of the chart shown at 6:18 is super inaccurate as it implies that Kosem Sultan was the mother of Osman II, when his mother was Mahfiruz Hatice Sultan and because it implies that Turhan Hatice Sultan was the mother of Suleyman II and Ahmed II when she was only Mehmed IV's mother.

@@prettysurelourd5703 actually their mothers were Haseki Sultan as well. Turhan was the the first Haseki, but other ones recieved more money from the Sultan because he liked them better, she had just given birth a few months earlier. During Ibrahim's reign he had 8 Haseki Sultans so, that is also when the title lost its special meaning. A few generations after the only way for a woman to have "Sultan" next to her name was to become Valide Sultan and instead of Haseki it reverted back to Hatun

Consolidater of the Ottomans was Mehmed I (Çelebi “the well-mannered” Mehmed) not Murad II. Mehmed I is very important character in our history, he saved the empire from collapsing and i advise that say his name instead of Murad II.

Great video but I noticed an error at 4:45 . Hurrem was part of Suleiman’s harem from 1520-1558, and she became “Haseki Sultan” in early 1530s when they married, so the part that says 1520-1534 under her name is incorrect and doesn’t make any sense.

Neither do I really see the Middle East changing roles from the geopolitical chessboard between foreign powers that it is today. Idiots a nations can go along with cultural similarites not with religion. Ottoman was Muslims so did was Mamluk still they hated each other for superiority. European muslims culture totally different from Arabs ones same as south east asian muslims. If you look at Christians they have difference too, arab Christians were totally differenent with their European Christianity. The religions didn't make the differences rather it was their culture who distinguished between themselves

He also was given the title ethnarch in 47 BC by Caesar and gave most of his power to Antipater, father of Herod.

Not meant as an offense: Your pronunciation (if you were to pronounce the names turkish, that is) is off. Aside from the fact that Turkish is spoken very differently than Arabic, the name Osmanoglu for example: the last g is not pronounced at all. It's just there so that the O before it is longer. The suffix is kind of like the Scandinavian suffix -son. So it means son, or child.

If we are going by Ottoman Turkish, it should sound more closely to Arabic. Ottoman Turk sound nothing like Modern Turk, Ottoman Turk was classified as Perso-Arabic not even Turk. Ottoman Turk was heavily influenced by Arabic and Persian with more than 88% of it's vocabulary, not to mention they adopted Arabic writing system. Modern Turk was based on "vulgar/raw Turk" used by lower class and common people of Ottoman. The Ottoman will not be happy with that pronounciation. Not to mentioned, both Arabic and Persian had a higher status than Ottoman Turk and both were teach to the rulling class. Another important note despite Turkish claim it's legacy and the Sultan admit it's Turkish lineage with Turkish culture play an important role in Ottoman identity, they never thought Ottoman as a Turkish nation or empire. For them Ottoman was a multiculture and diverse empire. They even had Jewish and Christian in the highest position second only to Sultan at one time, most of officer and rulling class came from diverse group of people from Kurd, Arab, Eqypt to Turk.

Thanks. I purchased this chart some months ago and enjoy referencing it. I believe the narration of this video however could be improved. Notably, important Sultans were glossed over, and some, not mentioned at all, such as Sultan Abdul Hamid II. There’s also a number of inaccuracies I believe, including attributing the correct titles to the Sultans, such as referencing Osman as Gazi instead of Bey. Finally, while the names are Arabic, I believe they should’ve been pronounced in Turkish, which is not difficult to do even for an Arabic speaker.

*Great chart..I see there are a few corrections to be made per the comments...The computer generated narrator is mis-pronouncing many words, confusing the story, and misleading. The "Resurrection: Eretgrul" series is fabulous, the only way I knew the correct pronunciations of the names. To hear the actors pronounce the language was a great tutorial on learning the Turkik language...Thank You for this!

I might be the descendent of Suleyman the Magnificent because his granddaughter Ayse Humasah Sultan maried Ali-paša Semiz who was the first ancestor of my mothers side of the family who died in 1565. Semiz means fat in turkish because he was fat. He was originaly from Prača in Bosnia.

So what? No one cares about Suleyman the Magnificent in this time and age 😂 He’s not important nor the Ottoman Empire. Open your eyes. Do you see people bragging about being descended from Suleyman the “Long gone”?

Timur lanatullah alayhim. Evil man he was. He killed many people! He is partially the reason why Iran is Shi'a! Because population became very little after Timur slaughtering Iranians and then Safavi took advantage of this.

I'm wondering if you've ever read the conquerer's saga by Kiersten white? She basically creates a legend out of Vlad the impaler's time as a hostage in the court of the ottoman empire, but if Vlad had been a girl called Ladaslav instead. It's really good, and got me really interested in the history of that region in that time

It also contains one of my favorite passages, spoken by Lada to an Ottoman noble they attempted to betrothe her to: "On our wedding night," she said, "I will cut out your tongue and swallow it. Then both tongues that spoke our marriage vows will belong to me, and I will be wed only to myself. You will most likely choke to death on your own blood, which will be unfortunate, but I will be both husband and wife and therefore not a widow to be pitied."
