Fantastic work. I imagine this will be an amazing resource for so many people. I know nothing beats the ability to chat with a real person over the phone, to hear the concern and care in their voice, but working in the healthcare tech sector as a manager in support, my unsolicited feedback would be to perhaps consider omni-channel support (ie. live chats + email) as a first line of support, followed by outbound telephone if required (as opposed to inbound). Live chat, while being cheaper than phone, allows an individual representative to chat with a few people at once, as opposed to one person on the phone. Additionally, the ability to send links to resources, etc in real-time is great. Anyway, stoked for this resource and regardless I know you'll do what is best for your non-profit and those leveraging your resources.

Thank you. I think anyone in an autism family has to pull extra weight. It's part of the package, but also very rewarding and can teach people to be selfless if they give their hearts to helping others, but I understand what you are saying too. They are all great kids.

I have always followed and recommended your channel because you provide a clear example of how your family deals with Auitism as part of your daily lives. Your interest in developing a nonprofit to help others, on the surface, could be a good idea. Many people who suspect they have a family member who may be Autistic and people who may be interested in an evaluation often find it hard to locate help. Indeed, money is often a factor. If your intent is to help guide people to services, this can be a helpful endeavor. On that, I wish you well. However, when you said you "want to get a Pshychologist onboard to provide diagnosis, maybe even remotely" I had to replay to make sure I was hearing correctly. In one of your videos, you asked of "Autism" was getting diluted due to so many people declaring they are Autistic based on invalid or insufficient online diagnostic criteria. This is indeed a problem. The internet is so saturated with "false experts" pushing false and distorted "diagnostic criteria," many many people are wandering around declaring how "Autistic" they are. To be clear, the only criteria that should be used for diagnosis is the DSM-5 (ICD Manual un Europe). The contents of both manuals are very accessible online. Any other "sources" such as You Tube Channels should NEVER be used to diagnose. Autism is for life. That means a proper diagnosis looks not only at the "current state", but actions and behaviors over one's life. Unfortunately, all of the online "experts" are preying on people who are only looking at "today." An HONEST evaluation takes a lot of time. Not only do you need the interview, but you also need in person observations. You need the input of secondary "observers" who have known the subject and can attest objectively to situations and behaviors over a span of time. Autism behaviors and traits can vary over time and situation, so many factors have to be evaluated. (I know my visible Autism traits varried based on age and environment) So it is no easy task to get a ture diagnosis. Certainly not something that can be done watching a video or answering questions on all of those online "Autism Tests." I hope your desire to guide people to resources is successful because boy, people need that. Yes, there needs to be an affordable way to get help, but not at the expense of proper diagnostic processes. So I wish you success, but I strongly disagree with your desire to bring on a Phsychologists to "Diagnosis people" especially "remotely."
@AutismFamilyChannel
@AutismFamilyChannel Жыл бұрын
None of this is iron clad right now. These are just ideas of what we maybe want to get started, and yes we want to do it the right way. This would mean a psychologist who uses the DSM-5, which is what I tell people is the gold standard as well. Remote is not ideal, but neither is paying hundreds of thousands to fly a psychologist around the world to diagnose, etc. so I’m not sure on that one yet, just a possibility. But the point is people need real help, and we don’t want to give them woo medicine, so we are going to do our best, but we can’t guarantee anything until we get funded, and that’s pretty much non-existent right now, so we will see 😉👍

@@AutismFamilyChannel Perhaps a start may be a Phsychiatrist provides insight and a guide on the process of "self-diagnosing." As we both know, too many people "self-diagnose" based on how and what they feel now using "the online experts." Self-Diagnosis can be accomplished if people are guided through the more in depth processes. Shown the correct methodology, at least people can get a better idea of reality. However, one of the great dangers of diagnosing Autism, there are other things it can be other than Autism. If not done correctly, Schizophrenia, Bi-Polar Disorder, ADHD (and a few more) can be misdiagnosed as "Autism." This is a challenge even the professionals often get wrong. Such an error can cause inappropriate treatments or medications be applied. It is indeed a tricky issue. I wonder just how many people have the needed innate objectivity to truely fully go through a (self-)diagnostic proccess and accept the results. Most I fear would go through a process seeking to "prove that I am Autistic" rather than accepting the result of "No you are not?" If nothing else, maybe your group can push the Political Process to champion more low cost mental health screening. That would hopefully include screening for Autism and send people down the correct paths for the help they need. Best of luck on the project and hope it plays out well.
