My son did a DNA test a last year. I was adopted. Iand I'm now 65 yo.Through that DNA test, I found my birth fathers family, which included3 brothers still living and many nephews and nieces. By looking back several generations we found 5th generation grandmother was full blooded Cherokee and married to a chief. It is amazing to see a half blooded relative that you have similar physical characteristics that are the same. I now see where I get my squinty eyes and short arms from (My birth mom was only 4'11") so part of that is from her, but my brothers on my fathers side have very similar physical characteristics as I do. Isn't that cool. We also found a lot of public records through school records and army records.

I did a research on my dad's side of the family. I found a document where a granddaughter of my 3X great grandparents filed to get a roll number, stating her grandmother was full blood Cherokee and grandfather was half. Come to find out, they never registered as Cherokee so she didn't get one. They (my 3X) got land in Georgia during the Georgia Land Lottery. I figured they didn't want to claim to be Indians during that time so they wouldn't lose their land. They moved to Northeast Georgia from North Carolina about 1835. Then I found out My great grandfather (dad's family) had a brother named Tillman who was hung for murder in 1887 in Towns County Georgia. He killed an old man who he thought had told on him for having a still. Tillman only had one arm after losing his other in an accident. They buried his arm in a local cemetery, and when he was hung, they were going to bury him in the same cemetery, but the people of the town didn't want a murderer buried in their cemetery. They buried him in an old abandoned cemetery instead.

My wife during most of her lifetime researched both our family trees. She got our families all the way back into the 1600's coming from Norway, Ireland and Scotland entering the U.S. through North Carolina and Virginia. Someone in every generation served our country all the way back to the Revolutionary War down to me. I guess that is sometimes why it is referred to as a calling. Careful with census records. Just remember they were ordinary citizens with limited educational levels. That is how names sometimes get changed because they spelled it the way it sounded to them, they didn't just ask the people to spell out their name. My name has been found as Welch and Welsh in my family tree. My 6th Great Grandfather was William Bradford and came down to William Bradford Waddell one of the founder, operators of the Pony Express. During the Civil War they all participated for the South which really destroyed the family financially. Many of the Pony Express payments were never honored by the U.S. Government because of their loyalties to the South. Family lore and stories indicate that we do have Native American history but can not be verified because during the Trail of Tears they left the tribe and never made it to the reservations thus not getting on the Dawes Rolls.

I did ancestry DNA and then uploaded it to My Heritage. I am cousins with Benedict Arnold and Richard Henry Lee the guy who made the Motion to Declare independence. I had some relatives who were killed by Jayhawkers in Arkansas. Several revolutionary warriors. One Grandparent was in the Mexican American War in Buena Vista Mexico.

Good morning. I love Family Genealogy and Family History. It's absolutely amazing that we can find out what our family has been up to thorough the years and as they always corrected us and told us to behave, we find out that they may not have behaved as they were going through life. It's very fun to gather the info and get to know about the people in your family.

Ancestry history was very interesting. Think it’s important to learning about the past. Even as a child, I loved hearing stories from my grandparents. There’s some very colorful characters in my own family tree on both sides of paternal and maternal ancestors. 😂 Prayers for Stacy and everyone else that I seen in the comments. 🙏🙏🙏🙏

As a child, I questioned about an item that I found in the basement. Seems my Dad's father ran a still during Prohibition. Seems he made some pretty good stuff because, as the story goes, the police would supply Grandpa with what he needed from other stills that they had raided. 😮

Hi Gary & Cassie ~ it’s always interesting to find out about your ancestry. I did mine awhile ago, it went as far back as the 1700’s in France. But what was more interesting was all the different nationalities 😮. Turns out that I’m a “mutt” 😂 and not a purebred like I was led to believe. Wish I had asked more about my ancestors when I had the chance. I do have a Prayer request: for my grandson….he has Cystic Fibrosis and needs a lung cleanse. Thanking in advance 🌻

I’ve worked on genealogy for a long time. I’ve had ancestors who fought with George Washington and one who did time for bigamy. Related to ambassador to Mexico at beginning of Mexican/American war and one of the leaders of Transendentalism. I’m descended from a Templar Knight who escaped them all getting killed in 1307 and a man who murdered Indians on sight over a lb of salt. His son later married a Native American and went to live with them. Our histories are so full of mixed and interesting things. I’m always amazed at the things I find

Good Morning from central southern New Jersey . It's snowing here. I do geology research and taught "how to's" to youth and others. I have been able to go back to 1740 on both sides. They eventually "walked" to Oklahoma when it was still a territory. Have many relatives still there. Dad was born in Wildhorse, Mom was born in Midwest City. 🌻🤟🌻 P.S. - LOL . I KNOW my grandmother made gin in her bathtub to support her 11 children.

Be wary of the hints and suggestions. As a genealogist for 30 years, I've learned that it pays to do your own research and not rely on these trees, from ANY site. I do use the hints as jumping off points, but so many out there are waaaay wrong!
