It was nice meeting Mrs. Cindy since you always talk about her. I bet she was a fabulous chef. Momma always baker her picnic shoulder ham in the oven. Momma didn’t cut any skin off. My husbands Grandma always boiled her picnic shoulder ham and didn’t cut any skin off. Grandma put it in a big stew pot and boiled it. After the meal she draped the fat over the ham before she put it in the fridge with foil over it. She froze the broth and cooked beans in it. I now boil mine too. So yummy!!

I grew up in Indiana and my mother loved scalloped potatoes and ham, so she liked to make it with leftover ham. As a child I HATED it and now I'd give anything to have it again, made by mother. I'm 67, my mother is gone and I haven't had it in probably 50 years! You just reminded me of that and how spoiled I must have been! Though not TOO spoiled. Mom had a strict "This is what I made for dinner - take it or leave it" policy! LOL

I have 2 of those Victorinox 6" boning knives and an 8" breaking knife. They were used! They were in totes that were returned from grocery stores. One showed a little bit of wear but the other two were practically new. They were not for sale in the store, they were what the butchers in the back used. Why they tossed them in a tote I'll never know. I cleaned them up, sharpened them and now they are all I use. One of them is what I used when I was drying those crispy apples. I can easily slice a medium sized apple in 20 slices. I need to send you a sample. Those totes came back with all kinds of trash in them. Rarely they have something worth keeping. Once there was a Fossil watch in a tote. I didn't find it but a lady who worked for me did. There is no way of knowing which store the tote was last. I kept it for two months to see if anyone would claim it then gave it to her. Actually I bought it back from her for $20. I still have it.

Growing up, the best ham was produced in Westminster by William F. Myers & Sons in their plant in the middle of town. They also produced the best hot dogs I have ever eaten. They went out of business eventually, but sold their ham recipe to another local smoke house called Hahn's of Westminster that still produces hams today. When I make a big pot of fresh pea, navy bean, vegetable or Maryland crab soup, I get a half ham from Hahn's to make my broth. I put some of the meat in the soups, but eat most of it in small, cold chunks with fresh ground pepper and apple cider vinegar sprinkled on, which is how my father preferred his ham. I think grocery store hams aren't very good because they have too much water pumped into them.

That is one beautiful ham! My grandfather baked a Sunday ham about once a month, in much the same manner, but with a couple tweaks. I wish I could remember what he did, because he made the BEST gravy from the drippings. I know he added Kitchen Bouquet to the gravy, and maybe a little brown sugar, but none of us has been able to recreate it. He's been gone almost 30 years, and I can still taste that ham and gravy. The other Sundays it was roast beef, we would poke fun at Pop because he always cooked the heck out of it. But it was never dry, and the gravy was fantastic too. All he did was pour a package of Lipton onion soup on it with a couple cups of water. The slurry to thicken it was just AP flour in water. Little salt and pepper, that's it.

Was great meeting Miss Cindy! Love the simplicity of cooking your hams the way you do. Nice having ham to eat for a few days!! I do put a brown sugar glaze on my hams but may have to cook one the way y’all do!! Thank you, Tipper! God bless & much love! 💕🤗🙏🏻

You can always make a Glaze in a saucepan and serve it on the side in like a gravy boat for whoever would like it.

My Mom used to make ham the same way but replacing the water in the pan with Coke or Cherry Coke. It just steams into the ham and doesn't change the flavor. Victorinox makes a really nice paring knife and I love their serrated knife for tomatoes. I give a Victorinox chefs knife to the grandchildren when they are old enough, reasonable priced. has a nice handle for new cooks and stays sharp a long time.

That is a feast! One of the biggest secrets when baking a ham is to be sure and not overcook it!

It was so good to see Ms. Cindy featured in a video. She's so pretty & I would like to see her in more videos. Maybe you could do an interview with her so we can get to know her better. That meal looks absolutely delicious. I wish I could smell through my computer. Hugs!

Ya'll are so blessed from the Lord with all this good food and good family and friends to share it with and the good health and LOL the teeth to chew it with. Miss Cindy is a gorgeous lady. Tipper I hope you get a snowy weekend that you've wished for. Just enough of one to enjoy hearty meals with each other. Love and hugs from North Georgia.😘
