Never thought I’d see the day where Connor plays games not just for the gameplay, but for the story and him not skipping cut scenes. That was some major character development we got from Connor this year. I relate with Garnt on the fidgets toys. For me I tend to fiddle with pens. I like the clicky sound it makes

I watched the entire vods of Connor playing Final Fantasy 7 and must say, it was amazing. At the beginning I was worried he was going to skip key parts of the game. But he leveled the party to almost max. He got Vincent and Yuffie. He even took down Ruby and Emerald Weapon as well. 10/10 stream. As a FF7 veteran I was more than entertained.

Yeah I laughed when he said he didn't have to grind, but he really didn't. He CHOSE to grind. Cuz he was compelled to achieve something. It's a very different thing. Never expected him to go as hard as he did. Although to be fair, without the fast forward and disable random battle functions he wouldn't have. Which is fine, everyone would if everyone had been able.

As long as he didn't cheat too much for the "main" game. He even got Vincent 100% by himself. I just wish he stayed longer in the wall market to get Cloud chosen by Don Corneo lol, or at least he knew it could happen.

The FF 7 Remake / rebirth story, without spoiling too much, is beginning to branch out a separate story line. So highly recommend OG first if you wanna appreciate it. If not, just go through the remake trilogy all the way Connor, the remake music actually blew it out of the park. They deservedly won music of the year

I mean, you just need to check out that the remake basically expands the Midgar part of the original into a full game to know that the remake has to have its own completely seperate story. The end of FFVII Remake just makes it clear that anything is possible now. Characters that died might not die, events that are critical to the OG story may not happen. Characters that weren't even created when the OG released, might be introduced, not to mention of entirely new characters that might play a bigger role. It's basically the same thing when Garnt said thhat he doesn't want to watch the Scott Pilgrim anime because he knows the story, even though the story of the anime and even the original comic are completely different

Don't get baited into ichinose (the family amnesia one). The first chapter is AMAZING 10/10. And from there, it just gets worse and worse. The writing gets absolutely garbage. Wastes the concept completely.

I started the series a month ago, I am in Trails SC Chapter 3 so far, the first one was surprisingly not boring for me even if it was kinda basic storywise and while I don't find the gameplay that enjoyable is not boring either, for someone who pretty much never played a JRPG it was surprisingly easy to get into it.

Garnt as someone who tried Trails twice and couldn't get into it, last year I finally sat down and literally played all 11 games in 4 months of college break, it is the greatest masterpiece that has ever been bestowed onto the world. Kuro 1 and Kuro 2 just gets better and better. Although those 4 months I don't think I saw any friends, the plot was worth it.

I'm so hyped to hear the boys talking about City Pop! I became a huge fan when i discovered it a couple months ago coming out of a rough patch of the year. It instantly boosted my quality of life just playing it in the background, its hard to be sad when Anri bangs so hard but its so relatable cos the lyrics are like "I can't stop the loneliness" 😂 No one around me really gets it but that part of the pod really scratched a deep itch👌🏾

This has been a good year. I went on a trek with my wife to the Himalayas, March end. 3 days after coming back my wife told me she was pregnant. In May I bought a house. Dec 9th my little girl was born. Today's is my dog, Yuki's birthday.🎉 I'm in so much bank loan now, and filled with expenses, and we both are pretty sleep deprived, but I still hope time freezes in these moments.

Dang, feels bittersweet hearing Garnt talk about The Ichinose Family's Deadly Sin. Those first few chapters were so strong and worthy of being praised, but everything in the second half was so messy and unnecessarily convoluted. What a shame. I get the feeling that garnt might talk about it after he finishes it, cuz he'll probably need to rant.

lets be fair, trails absolutely has its fair share of non blood related incest other than rean LOL estelle and joshua's relationship is just done so well that people tend to genuinely forget that it's technically no less incestuous than many non blood related incest in anime nowadays there's also tita and agate, which is a whole other issue LOL but most people saw them as siblings so theres that

I was young and didn't speak any English whatsoever when I played Pokémon Red for the first time. I somehow skipped getting Flash and went into that one dark cave like that. Took hours, but was able to get out of there. And I did that at least a couple times more as I went through the game throughout the years. You can imagine my frustration years later when I learned about Flash. It made a lot of sense, tho

As someone who got into the Trails series in 2022 and just caught up to the officially released titles, I am so glad he is enjoying it, and I also agree that trails the 3rd is a hugely underrated game and absolutely not skippable if you actually like the series.

Love that Garnt got into Fortnine, his videos are always excellent and informational. Even if you don't care about motorcycles much, he does riding safety tips that are also good for car drivers to know.

Garnt's description of the kind of horror he loves reminds me of what made me fall in love with the horror storytelling in the Higurashi VN - where you just get thrown into the headspace of the main character, as he experiences that something doesn't feel right and you just have to work off of this eerie feeling for hours and hours, reading about all the things that happen within this confusing world, fueled by the way Ryukishi uses music and sound effects to enhance the atmosphere, until you reach the part of the story where it starts to answer all the questions and it all comes together

One thing I will say about the original FF7 by playing it first then playing the Remake is that it gives you a completely different perspective on the story. I played the original FF7 in late 2022. Then I played the Remake for the first time this year. And Im glad I played it that way. Because the Remake is VERY different from the original but also the new-er story is fed by the original game. It’s difficult to explain it without spoiling anything. But it’s one of those things where you just have to do it to get it. Because it’s the greatest feeling ever. And Im glad Connor will get to experience that one day!

I'm quite disappointed with the Remake, it felt so watered down with the side quests and the final fight being forced.. it made me not look forward to the Remake2. It gives me a similar feeling to The Hobbit films.. but saying that, I'm glad that it makes people reach out for the original If Connor plays IX I will have to watch the stream, as I've tried to get into that game twice but I just can't stay engaged.. It's one I feel hasn't aged that well if you haven't grown up with.

I think the creators tried to make Remake so players could explore the world more and interact with characters even more. And Rebirth will be the same, especially since its more open world

It is sad that a peak like this was largely ignored by some people simply because of the name and the fact that a lot of popular and hyped titles came out in the same season. Maybe by the time we get new 12 eps, the competition would not be as fierce

Idk how but this episode lines up perfectly with my chores like exactly 2 hours and 13 min i finished washing every bathroom, completely clean the living room and was able to wash dishes + sweep/mop and when i dumped dirty water the end song played. Funny coincidence

Trails baby!!! Trails in the Sky the 3rd is one of my 2 favorite Trails games (along with Azure). It structure is way more direct than the previous ones, making it less tedious IMH. Also, the way it's built with the lore through short stories, parts about the character and parts just about lore, is told in various of creative ways and is done brilliantly. Falcom really are great storytellers when they allow themselves to think outside the box, and Trails in the Sky the 3rd is where they shine brilliantly.

I can say that 2023 has been the year when I fell a bit out of love with Trash Taste. I missed a lot of episodes and wasn’t aware of all the meta from the subreddit and all. But whenever I tuned in and watch an episode the feeling didn’t change and it felt just like before. So I guess what I’m trying to say is that 2023 has been the year where I learned how to let go and accept that some things evolve and I can be cool with that

The boy and the heron does seem like the most connor-like studio ghibli movie. I watched the movie, and I think the best reaction can anyone can give is just having a lot of thoughts about it, good and bad. I love the conversations I've had with people about it where no one loved or hated all of it but just having a lot to say. Honestly, it really seemed like Miyazaki didn't give a crap who watched this, he just wanted to give his thoughts about different themes out, and we just have to submit to it and discuss amongst ourselves. I personally didn't get all of it but had a lot of fun. I feel like I need a Breadsword essay about it so I can have all the context lol.

I honestly found The Boy and the Heron forgettable and nonsensical. Me and a couple of friends went to see this on my birthday and we were really looking forward to it. Especially after looking at the cast list. We went to a fairly packed theater and I kid you not, there was complete silence in the auditorium. All I can recall was the murmuring of people expressing how disappointing the film was.

@galaxy_kitten95 I think that's valid. I also went to see it on my birthday and got a little deflated after. Definitely disappointed my expectations to have a fun, Howl-like adventure. And the thing with the mother/ aunt is WILD. That and just a million other things I can critique about it. But I find myself critiquing it in a really fun, dissective way that I usually don't do with other films. If for anything else, this movie was great for me to just digest and think about. 😅

1:47:15 I completely agree but there is some customization available in the games. At least in Genshin (idk any other systems I’ve only played Genshin) u have something called artifacts which help u lean into different aspects or abilities of the character. Ofc every character isn’t perfect or built equally but if u really wanted to u could build ur character any way u want to fill any role u need. Even weapon choice can affect how u use the character. It isn’t really as simple as Conner makes it out to be but I also completely understand and somewhat agree with his perspective.

such a great episode and great idea to wrap up the year! I myself got into one piece this year (even before the live action which was also great) and it's been such a joy to get swept up in. I was always curious as to why so many people held it in such high regard but now having watched (yes, just the anime for now) 80% of it, I get it. There's nothing quite like it and I've enjoyed it immensely, so much more than I ever thought I would. I consume a lot of different media, and one piece now definitely sits in my top 10 stories of all time in any medium. In a way I'm not even mad I didn't get into it sooner because now I can catch up on so many full arcs, many of which work (especially in the anime pacing) so much better binged than if I were to experience it weekly piece by piece. Anyways, enjoying my new identity as an (annoying) one piece fan, it gives me childlike joy ❤

When I first watched The Wind Rises I thought it was kinda mid, fast forward 3 years and a few rewatchs and it basically my favorite movie of all time because as connor said, very few movie can make you think about it after you watched it
