Opinions were wholesome all around and I can't help but be proud of them. They've all stared into the abyss and got away as better people and most important, they willingly talk about it. Love it guys!

Social sciences are nebulous so take it with a grain of salt. But I've read that due to falling purchase power, many members of the younger generation feels locked out of many things their parents took for granted, such a starting a family and purchasing real estate. With no improvement in sight, we become increasingly traumatised and become easy prey to services that monetise our porn addiction.
@LAK_770
@LAK_770 4 ай бұрын
@@ausreir yeah this is the core issue. In 1960, a high school graduate with no skills could get a manufacturing job that paid the equivalent of ~$65k yearly. Meanwhile, an average family home cost about $75k, you could pay for a top-tier college education with a part-time job, competition for jobs and college was practically nonexistent, etc. There was trust in institutions, taxes actually paid for comprehensive services, and there was no social media systematically amplifying the most insipid, toxic, and corrosive aspects of human society. Climate change is becoming impossible to ignore, AI is threatening to upend society in the forseeable future, and stable western governments are falling into the authoritarian trap left and right. I'm fully aware of the "kids these days" fallacy and the tendency for people to always consider their time to be unique, but things are objectively on the brink right now.

This episode is called “trash taste” and they said many times before, you shouldn’t take their words seriously. Conner said something like Japan is weird not allowing gay marriage but allowing a guy married to his DS in the middle part of this episode. However, I think it’s a BRUH moment for me. His point says a lot about himself. He think minorities like gay should be supported and gay marriage should be allowed in Japan, but minorities like fictosexuals are weirdos, their marriages are not allowed and they shouldn’t existed. Later he said “I felt torn because this guys looks genuinely happy, and I think people are entitled to their happiness”. So this is another example shows Conner is monke and always spitting out some random illogical self-contradictory nonsense bullshit without a logically consistent understanding in his own mind. He is kind of boomer is this sense and 5 steps of grief/facepalm/disbelief is kind of gold he finally said “it can’t be real, it gotta be publicity stunt, I don’t believe this is true” and Joey on the side just started to laugh🤣 Even though he explained what is asexual, I think he don’t a thing called “fictosexual”. And he don’t know in English speaking circle, fictosexual is considered as a member of asexual spectrum. (Reference: r/Asexual. “A visualization of the Asexuality Spectrum. 2022-02-03.)

Honestly, Garnt's right about loneliness. I just recently learned to be comfortable in my own shoes and accept being alone. I used to feel very lonely and left out during my 11th and 12th grades, and I didn't really score well either, I was barely passing Physics and Chemistry lol. I just never wanted to study, and I went on a weird Henti and pron addiction, even tolerating and being exposed to weird kinks I never had in my wildest dreams. It just went on a downward spiral where I'd watch the most f-ed up stuff and feel nothing about it. I was an addict looking for a new fix. Add that to betrayals, I was basically a recluse. But getting into university, I just buried myself with work and projects and stuff like that so that no stray thought goes to my weird addiction. The thing is, it worked for a while, until I got my next horrible breakdown where I was just a mess for 4 months. I just couldn't stop crying lol. I'd get out and I'd just burst out crying for no reason. Like ugly sobbing and stuff, and I really didn't know how to deal with that at all. Therapy is basically non-existent in India, and I was just told to "not be sad" which didn't help. It was so goddamn hard to move out of that mindset and if I hadn't done some radical changes, I'd still be miserable. Then, I started watching Trash Taste, and I found out that I wasn't alone, and everyone goes through that at some point in their lives. If I had money to burn, and there was a premium option in Tinder, I'd have 100% taken up on that offer, even if I knew that it didn't work. It's weird, but seeing you guys talk, I just copied some of your mannerisms, and I slowly built my confidence. I also kind of gave up trying to find happiness while being lonely (not like extreme Hikikomori, more like I stopped thinking too much about it.) That worked for me, and 2023 was basically the year I was rebuilding my life after 3 of my friends stabbed me in the back. It's a daily struggle to not get into the same mindset I was. I've traded in bad habits for other bad habits. I'm noticeably fatter and have some binge eating problems, but out of all the 21 years of my life, this is the best version I've been in. I'm able to earn decent money and not depend on my parents, which not many people have the privilege to. TL:DR; Loneliness if a slow poison and it's hard but anyone can pull themselves out if you make a conscious effort. And boys, your weekly episodes have genuinely changed me for the better. You taught me to value my life as a human being even more and not waste my time trying to salvage broken relationships. I know this won't be seen, but thanks a lot boys!
@Verchiel_
@Verchiel_ 4 ай бұрын
Happy to hear it's getting better. Even if there are still issues you're dealing with, steadily working on fixing them can be a snowball effect. The further you improve parts of your life, become more confident, knowledgeable, connected, the easier it is to grow and eventually fix other things like your appearance or a better living situation. I admittedly say this not speaking from personal experience, having barely passed high school (though socially i progressed quite a bit. Going from a quiet kid to a quiet kid that isn't a total social wreck.) I'm neglecting doing things that would better my future, soon to be 21. I live in a pretty toxic household with not a lot of opportunities I know of, solely hinging on the dream of sooner or later leaving and living on my own for some time, expecting that while it may be really hard, it'd still let me leave the stagnant part of my life.

@@Freya_Blue yeah if you're on the borderline, it's however you identify. The exact cutoffs are ultimately arbitrary, and the definitions are hazy in the first place. It's all about average experience - as soon as you look at individuals and edge cases it loses meaning. However, there is a gigantic difference between the Millennials who remember a pre-internet world and didn't have social media until uni, and everyone born afterward. This throws a wrench into the whole thing because it's a different criteria that's out of phase with the formal generational cutoffs.

As someone who's been watching Trash Taste weekly since near the very beginning, I will say that I am very excited to see the new forms of videos in the new year, though I always will appreciate and look forward to the regular episodes of the boys just sitting down and chatting for two hours. This podcast has consistently brought me joy every week since that first time I clicked on the channel. Trash Taste gave me a place of belonging and just gave me something consistent in a time where so much was going on and changing, and still, so much is going on and changing. And yet, no matter what I had going on in my life, I knew I had a Trash Taste episode at the end of the week I could sit back and enjoy, and escape everything for two hours. And in the same way that you guys were here for me, I will be here at the end of every week, no matter the circumstances, to sit back, watch Trash Taste, and support you boys. I wish y'all the best in the new year!!

Re: the conversation thing about adult toys. Not everyone wants another person in their life, a romantic relationship, or the like. There are a lot of aromantic, asexual, socially introverted, or just average people in general who aren't lonely in the slightest and have no interest the kind of companionship a relationship provides and/or specifically aren't interested in a physical relationship with another living person, yet still enjoy the physical release of climax. That is particularly true of asexuals, many of which may still enjoy the physical release while turned away from intimacy with another. And that shouldn't be surprising. Climaxing is a rush of endorphins that has been well-documented to help with depression, focus, and stress, even outside a mutual adult relationship. Toys like those described in the episode can provide a more varied experience to such individuals, much the same way some couples might try different techniques or positions in order to keep things fresh and exciting. Toys are a fine thing.

Housing is going to be the least of our worries. This cope that "every generation says the next generation is doomed" doesn't hold water. We've never lived in a world more susceptible to pandemics (due to Gain of Function research and increased global travel), previous generations weren't facing a near future when much of the earth can no longer support crops and billions die from starvation and wars of migration, mental health has never been so fucked because humanity is not built for the internet, AI is a much bigger threat than people realize, and another thing people don't realize is that the threat of nuclear war is as high as it's ever been. The world IS fucked in ways it never has been before

@@OhGeeGanksta To be fair, he didn't say "buying a house"; he said "housing". Many US universities have hit a point of not having enough on campus housing to meet the needs of the incoming freshmen they require to live on campus, and upperclassmen in many universities are fighting to find off-campus housing they can afford, even with six to eight people paying for it, that's close enough to campus.

Learn to tolerate solitude. 2. Prioritise long-term wellbeing over short-term happiness. Work at something, no matter how small, and dedicate time to it. 3. Don't take yourself too seriously. 1:24:06 After my first semester in uni I just waited a week or two to see if we actually need the "required" textboks 75% of the time you didn't need the textbook at all. The profs either didn't use them, reference them, or even give recommended or required readings. I started this after my first year because of one of my profs. Our university had a required and recommended list of reading for every course. This class had around 15 - 20 books on the required reading list so every got them thinking okay we will be going over each of these. Nope we read and did one novel the rest were just books the professor thought we should have in general. We are talking like over a grand in books we didn't touch. I noticed most of my classes that did use their books didn't start using until after the first and sometimes second week. Well, I ended up waiting until then to see what books the prof would use and I end up saving thousands of dollars by doing this. I did however have a clas that we read 3 to 8 books a week for an entire semester. Even worse is the books were only available at the library in section that only allowed you to take those books out for an hour or two. Otherwise you couldn't buy them the uni so you would have to order them online or figure something out. well, to no ones surprise the class went from 45 people to 12 (it wasn't an intro class). The only silver lining was that the whole class was marked on discussion stuff. So we were split into two groups which alternated between making discussion questions or answering them for each reading(s) for that day. We had to roughly transcribe what was said and give our questions to the prof. The prof guided the discussions and we were marked on how well our questions were crafted, how the disucssion went, and most importantly how indepth we went into the reading(s). After the first two weeks it was actually kind of fun because you kind of just fell into a habit of reading. We probably read 50 books just for that class during the semester and some of the readings were relevant to some of my other classes so it helped me that way. I'm just glad I didn't have to buy the books becuase it would probably have completely made me broke.

In my country teachers would never force you to buy a certain book, and especially in University, teachers only suggest which one they prefer, but no one is forced to use one in particular. And on top of that, a lot of my teachers also told us not to buy them because they are expensive and instead suggested to use the ones of the library, which is free. I think some teachers even shared with us their pdf versions of the book so that we didn't need to buy them.

I made an account and within five minutes he super liked me and sent me a message, a few days later we had an amazing first date, half a year later I moved in with him, and three years after that he proposed. I’m fully aware that my experience isn’t the norm tho, because my fiancé has a ton of tinder horror stories. @@aartasian8852I’m assuming they mean they could’ve waited a few days to make this come out on the Eve/New Year; if I’m correct, the problem with that mentality is that they’re assuming everyone watches these videos the day it comes out when it could easily also be a podcast treat saved for a few days. It’s also probably them trying to make a little joke and so let’s just let them have it.

Very excited to watch them play games together. I was a huge fan of Funhaus pre-2020 and loved the couch play / couch co-op stuff. I would also love to see a Trash Taste in-house fighting game tournament.

14:57 the actual reason for it being forbidden is that it takes the mind away so you don't have the ability to make sound decisions. As usual great episode.

Hearing their talk about uni and socializing being the most useful thing there made me very sad. Started uni during first year of pandemic, the first 2 years of lectures were online and by that point no one was interested in getting to know eachother and were dreading the study course. Really it was a horrible experience, dont think i got any value from it

I feel like Sydney would be the type to get jealous at the elderly woman at the konbini where Garnt frequents, and he's all like "don't worry about it" while getting spoonfed and told "いい子いい子" by the nice old lady

Non-alcoholic Guinness also tastes the same... Just as watery and meh as the regular stuff. (I've only had Guinness in Finland and Germany, people keep telling me that it's different in the UK, but I don't believe it until I get a chance to taste it myself)

This was so relatable. The club workers and regular club-goers in Korea were my 'community' back in the day. I never drank in high school and very little in college; it was only after I lived in Korea for 5 years where it became the normal way to socialize. It's just what we did - at least in my friend circle. It seems to be that way for a lot of the country as well. I still haven't quite kicked the habit because it's become so ingrained as something you just ~do~, but I'm sure I look like quite the wild child now that I'm back in America. And the question- "How did you learn Korean?" Just drinking and socializing, repeating what was said to me, asking the same questions, and doing the same self-intro over and over again. It's nice to see how experiences can be similar when living abroad, even in different countries and social circles.
