Swedish and English come from the same language family so there are similarities there even though our languages aren't intelligible at all, so that could have been why you thought it sounded a bit like English

Peter Jöback has indeed a good voice, He's been very popular in Sweden for decades; he was like the teen idol dream for many young girls. He later revealed that he was gay - he's been married to boyfriend Oscar for almost two decades. Of course that doesn't alter his popularity.

After voicing Aladdin back in the 90s, Peter Jöback made a comeback for recently voicing King Magnifico the new Disney villain in the Swedish dub of Wish.

This is a bit of Swedish history. And I just have to mention, it's Helen Sjöholm, not Susan 😂. If I can make an suggestion, look for Solala - Helen Sjöholm. They sing Elton Johns Circle of life in Swedish by a kitchen table. Kind of without instruments. Tommy Körberg is another great singer who sung very much with Helen. Enjoy your day 😊

Have you yet been listenening/reacted to Helen Sjöholm singing the song "Hemma" (Home). Its a song that hits hard into Swedish hearts . Probably even harder for us who have been living abroad for several years ...Its a song about longing home to Sweden . Since Kristina (Played by Helen Sjöholm) never found herself at home in USA ...and was constantly longing home to Sweden . Go listening again to Helen Sjöholms amazing voice and performance in the song "Hemma" There is a version with english lyrics as well, så you can understand what she sings about

As I had close contacts and relations with the persons behind the creation of the musical ”Kristina från Duvemåla” I can reveal some unknown facts about it: The musical is written by the two male ABBA-members Benny Andersson (music) and Björn Ulvaeus (lyrics). I was together with Björn and Benny the main speakers at a conference at the Royal Library in Stockholm about the famous Swedish author Vilhelm Moberg (who wrote the four novels that the musical is based upon). I talked about ”Vilhelm Moberg as dramatist, and Björn and Benny talked about how they created the musical ”Kristina från Duvemåla). After Björn and Benny had their great success with their musical ”Chess” in London, they thought about a subject for a new musical. They read a lot of Swedish novels and short stories, but didn’t find anything to work on. Benny then had a small party in his home, and in exactly the moment he was putting a lamb steakinto his oven, he suddenly was struck by the thought of making a musical from Vilhelm Mobergs novel ”Utvandrarna” (The Emigrants). He immediately phoned Björn and told this idea to him. Björn was a bit hesitant, because they were looking for a short story, and now Benny suggested a very long epic story presented in a series of four thick volumes. I saw the musical three times on stage. First in Malmö with its original cast including Per Jöback, and then once more in Malmö and once in Stockholm. The musical is very good with wonderful music. Björn and Benny wanted it to get produced in English at Broadway. They had contact with different producers, but never succeeded to get a production of it at Broadway. It was in America only produced in a concert version that especially toured around in the tradional ”Swedish” states in USA. I suggested to Björn and Benny that they instead should try to get it produced in London, where their earlier musical ”Chess” had made a great success. And especially I argued that ”Kristina från Duvemåla” has much in common with the French musical ”Les Miserables” that had made a great success in London and played there for ten years. But Björn and Benny insisted that thjey wanted the musical first produced in New York as it is about Swedish emigrants to America. I was also a close friend to the daughters of the author Vilhelm, especially his daughter Eva Moberg, who was a famous Swedish author herself, just like her father (all of them died some years ago). They owned the rights of the four novels in the series starting with ”The Emigrants”. So Björn and Benny had to get an agreement from them to be able to make the musical ”Kristina från Duvemåla” based upon their father’s novels. The three daughters were then actually directly involved in the creation of the novel in different ways. Eva Moberg told me privately that she actually didn’t like how the end scene of the musical was presented on stage, but she never revealed that publicly.

IIRC correctly, it was'nt false bank notes, it was someone stealing his gold and replacing it with sand, so when he came back to show Kristina how rich he was he emptied the pouch on the table and it was sand

No, it was a case of "wildcat banking". It was the issuance of paper currency in the United States by poorly capitalized state-chartered banks. These wildcat banks existed alongside more stable state banks during the Free Banking Era from 1836 to 1865, when the country had no national banking system. Bank closures and outright scams regularly occurred, leaving people with worthless money. In the Swedish movie The New Land (1972), the character Robert is paid in wildcat notes, which is later discovered by his brother Karl Oskar.

0:37 An Islet is an very small island often unnamed, like an islet in the San Blas archipelago. Most definitions are not precise, but some suggest that an islet has little or no vegetation and cannot support human habitation. It may be made of rock, sand and/or hard coral; may be permanent or tidal. As suggested by its origin islette, an Old French diminutive of "isle", use of the term implies small size, but little attention is given to drawing an upper limit on its applicability. Other terms of it: Ait or eyot, Cay or Key (the Florida Keys off Florida are examples of islets.)

@@Vollification Sorry, but you've got it all wrong. Your "r:s" are very distorted compared to standard Swedish; in some parts of Southern Sweden they don't pronounce that letter at all, which makes it sound as if they were speaking baby talk.
