Like a madman will throw into the sea Empty bottles and then hopes That we can read through them S.O.S. written with air To tell you that I feel alone I draw with empty ink a desert And I run I cling to life I get drunk with the noise Of the bodies that surround me Like lianas tied with braids Without understanding the distress The words I send It's hard to call for help When so many dramas oppress us And the tears knotted with stress Choke a little more the cries of love Of those who are in weakness And in a last hope disappear And I run and I cling To life I get drunk with the noise Of bodies that surround me Like lianas tied in braids Without understanding the distress The words I send All the cries the S.O.S. Leave a trace in the air in the water Leave a trace whose foam makes the beauty Caught in their glass vessel The messages struggle but the waves Bring them back in star stones on the rocks And I picked up the pieces of glass I picked up all the pieces Everything was clear as water Against the past there is nothing to do It would be necessary to change the heroes In a world where the best is yet to come And I run I hold on to life I get drunk on the noise Of bodies that surround me Like lianas tied in braids Without understanding the distress The words I send All the cries the S.O.S. Leave a trace in the air in the water Leave a trace whose foam makes the beauty Caught in their glass vessel The messages struggle but the waves Bring them back in star stones on the rocks

He was a political activist, defended the voice of the youth of his time, bashed once the French president on Air he was not afraid of the political elites. He died suddenly in 1986 in a helicopter crash at Dakar I think. He was one of the greats of his generation as far as France is concerned. This song is less known. So proud that Daniel Balavoine have this impact worldwide. In the vid we clairly see that the woman is surfing the wave of the instruments an rythms, during the man is slaped by Daniel himself (e.g. at 6:30). He's the author of both instrumentals (for these the techniques was out of time with for exemple the use of train whistling as an instrument thanks to the Fairlight CMI a brand new tech in the 80') and lyrics. As french speaker, I can attest that he's among the greatest author by the sense of the messages, defending important causes with an unique and penetrant expression. For the people reacting like the man in this vid, it's really hard to handle to singing on this kind of powerful music. There is already too many emotion just by listening it. If I can recommand an other incredible music, I can tell you « Hier encore » by Charles Aznavour. I guess the guy will be very receptive. For the girl I can recommand « Emmenez-moi » by the same artist. Don't hesitate so answer in this comment with you local incredible musics :)

Daniel Balavoine was a unique singer and composer in the French music. His voice was unique. Just before he past away, in a tragic crash in Africa, he was planning to record a disque with English songs in UK with a famous music producer. He was ready to be an international singer. There are so many songs to dive in. For example maybe is most impressive vocal is Tous Les cris Les S.O.S, but also Le chanteur, les oiseaux, Je ne suis pas un héros, Vivre ou survivre, and so on. He dedicated his life to help oppressed people, children in Africa, and was one of the most influent artist at the end of 70s and 80s. Please continue to react of some of his beautiful art pieces!

Every cry, each SOS Like a mad man goes to throw at sea Empty bottles, hoping maybe Somebody can read through them The SOS written with some air, To tell you that I feel alone, I am drawing, in blank ink, a desert. And I run, I am hanging on to life, And I get drunk on the noise Of people around me, Just like creepers tied into braids, Oblivious to the distress Of the words I throw. It's not that easy to call for help, Drowned in so many tragedies, And the teardrops tangled with stress Smother a bit more the cries of love Of the ones who live in weakness And, in their very last hope, disappear. And I run, I am hanging on to life, And I get drunk on the noise Of people around me, Just like creepers tied into braids, Oblivious to the distress Of the words I throw. Every cry, each SOS Goes up in the air, And leaves, in the water, A trace made beautiful by its foams. Caught in their vessel of glass, The messages struggle But the waves do bring them back As stardust scattered upon the rocks. And I picked up the splinters of glass, Put the pieces back together. And it was clear as water, There is no winning against the past. The heroes ought to be replaced In a world that hasn't yet Seen the best. And I run, I am hanging on to life, And I get drunk on the noise Of people around me, Just like creepers tied into braids, Oblivious to the distress Of the words I throw. (x2) : Every cry, each SOS Goes up in the air, And leaves, in the water, A trace made beautiful by its foams. Caught in their vessel of glass, The messages struggle But the waves do bring them back As stardust scattered upon the rocks. lyricstranslate.com

Absolutely amazing to see you feel that music as some French people just laugh at it. At the end of the day he had so powerful lyrics putting politicians in front of their ignorance that we still wonder why he disappeared so abruptly. 💚🧡💜

Sad you don't have subs, because what he says is so so emotional... Even if you feel it... Thank for this reaction.

It's really touching to see how it hit you without understanding the language. At 5:55 he says "there's nothing you can do about the past" in a slightly broken, defeated tone and you knew it was sad as fuck. Beautiful reaction.

I remember the day I heard about his death. 😢 I remember what I was doing, where I was. 35 years ago... He is one of those temporal markers which mark out a man's life. I haven't had that many. In one of his song, he said he wanted to die unhappy so as not to regret anything. But his death made a lot of people miserable and regretful. 😢 See you in another life, Daniel.

I'm french, thank you for this tribute to great artist. personally when I was little and I learned of his death in a helicopter in an African desert, I cried like many French people... he defended noble causes and fought against injustices in France but not only. a rebel who embodied flayed youth. Daniel composed his own songs. imagine the power of his lyrics on the same level as his powerful melodies. Believe me if he was still alive things would be very different in France now! For me Daniel is a god. we all love him and miss him terribly! Thank you for paying him this wonderful tribute! strength to you

This is the traduction in English of this beautiful French song : Every cry and SOS As madman would throw into the sea Empty bottles with the secret hope That through the glass we could read SOS' word written with some air. To tell you how I feel alone, I draw with some empty ink A desert. And I run; The only way to cling to life Is to get drunk with the noise Of bodies surrounding me Like lianas tied with braids, Without perceiving the distress Of words that I send. Ask help ain't ease when no one to call; With so many dramas which oppress, The tears knotted with the stress Stifle a little more the cries of love Of those who are in weakness; In a last glimmer of hope, Will disperse. And I run, The only way to cling to life Is to get drunk with the noise Of bodies surrounding me Like lianas tied with braids, Without perceiving the distress Of words that I send. Every cry and SOS Goes up in the air. In water, leaves a trace Whose sea foam makes the beauty. Taken in their glass vessel, The messages struggle, But the waves bring them back In broken star stones by the rocks.1 I picked up the little bits of glass. I stuck all the pieces back. Everything cleared as water; There's nothing to do against the past. We'd have to change the heroes In a world where the prettier Still to do. Taken in their glass vessel, The messages struggle, But the waves bring them back In broken star stones by the rocks. (Chorus X2)
