I'll be getting my '51 B this Friday. Mine has been in parades and tractor pulls and has won some of the pulls. The engine has been overhauled by the previous, previous owner. I am excited to finally own my first B.

Spent lots of time on a late 40s B working for a farmer when I was a kid, raking hay mostly. We always opened the petcocks to reduce the compression and let it crank faster and easier.. It had open flywheel so even started it by hand a couple of times.

Two thumbs up from me! Great video

Rednecken Illinois hey thanks, glad you liked the video! We had some issues with the sound on the video, unfortunately you can’t exactly do a retake of a first time startup. Have a blessed day!

@@kentuckytim4443 just curious what part of the great state of Kentucky are you from. In my opinion the best state

Check and make sure the spark plugs are clean/new. Drain the old gas and put fresh Non-Ethanol gas in it if you are not running it daily. If you haven't overhauled your engine heads yet to accommodate Unleaded fuel, I highly recommend it.

Did you stub shaft for that tractor?. The short shaft that bolts into the steering wheel for hand starting.
@OzziesOddities2 жыл бұрын
That sure is a pretty tractor.

Nice video but what's with the sound cutting in and out???? It would have been nice to hear the whole process full sound
@kentuckytim44433 жыл бұрын
@ShawnaBurns hey thanks! I’m glad you like the video. As for the sound, great question. What I didn’t realize when making the video video, was the mic on my camera was trying to adjust for variations in the sound level. The end result is the video you just saw. My apologies for the sound variations. I could have shot another video, but then it wouldn’t have been the first time starting the tractor. Thanks for the comment. Have a great day.

@Benny Guy I believe 52 was the last year for the Bs.

Henry May thanks for the comment. You are exactly right! This was the first time we’d ever had this tractor running. One thing we’ve learned about it, is it really likes gas when starting. We now have it running pretty good. If you go to my channel you’ll see a couple of more videos of us driving it and tedding hay with it. Thanks again, have a blessed day!

I distinctly remember that ticking sound when they were turning over as a kid. What is that? Surely someone knows. 👍🇺🇲
@kentuckytim44432 жыл бұрын
The ticking sound would be the magneto.
@brianvosburgh17202 жыл бұрын
@@kentuckytim4443 I thought perhaps but the ticking does not seem to correspond with the compression stroke so it is apparently not due to discharge? I'm curious, can you explain to me exactly what is happening there?
@kentuckytim44432 жыл бұрын
@@brianvosburgh1720 I certainly don’t claim to be an authority on these tractors, but I believe the magneto fires every time the engine turns over, regardless of it being the compression stroke or the exhaust stroke.
@brianvosburgh17202 жыл бұрын
@@kentuckytim4443 understood. If you listen to the start sounds and starter noise it doesn't seem to match at all. Of course the mag makes sense but doesn't align as I would have thought. I wonder if it might fire two times per revolution? Because I'm not lucky enough to have one of those I get to sit here and worry about such things. 😂😂😂 Nice machine and oh, that sound of my youth. 👍🇺🇲
@CarolMeyer-pv5ub2 ай бұрын
That sound is the impulse drive of the magneto, which increases the intensity of the spark during startup only

Bad audio.
@kentuckytim44433 жыл бұрын
Yes, my apologies for the audio. Unfortunately I didn’t know there was a problem with it until after the video was made. I could have reshot the video, but then it wouldn’t have been the first time starting the tractor. Thanks for the comment.
