I was an Air Force kid with an American AF mother and a German AF father. I was born in Hanover, West German, the home town of The Scorpions. This song is originally about the time when the Soviet Union fell and the Berlin Wall came down, uniting the communist held East Germany with their western brothers and sisters. But, this song is TIMELESS and can be applied to modern times.

One of the best moments of my gig-going life was with this band. I was at the famous Scorpions gig at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin in 1999, celebrating the tenth anniversary of the fall of Berlin Wall. During this song many many denim and leather clad hairy-arsed heavy rock fans, many of whom were former East Germans, were openly crying and hugging one another "like brothers" - me included. At that moment we felt we could change the world and that we really are all just one people. God, I wish we could all that feel like that again today, the world really needs it.

I just learned this song about 3 weeks ago, (the rhythm guitar part). My fiance lives in Ukraine. I had heard this song a 100 times but never really listened to the words or thought about it. I mostly listen to the sounds. Anyway, so when I was learning the words to sing it, it occurred to me, this HAS to be about the fall of the Berlin Wall. Sure enough, I looked it up and that is what its is about. I thought about that speech that President Reagan made at the Brandenburg gate.. "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall." And I got very emotional. It meant something to me. I didn't even realize how the song had become an anthem throughout Eastern Europe for freedom, especially economic freedom, freedom from the chains of socialism. I guess that is why my fiance Elena likes it so much. I always liked it but now is one of my favorite songs.

This song says it all. the Wind of Change. To me listening to this song for all these years always gets me. Every time. And just think of the countries who are divided instead of United. Here in the states we kind of lucky. We're united, but not quite fully united. And as they say in the song. Brothers. I guess what I'm trying to say is, why can't we continue to live United. That's what America is all about. Many colors and many cultures living united. As this country is called UNITED States of America. We done it before, so lets do it again. living in unity, and help teach the other countries to do the same. Let's rock this world in a good way with alot of positivity.

All of their songs are awesome, but i recommend fallow your heart, believe in love, the rhythm of love, always somewhere, humanity, eye of the storm, the good die young ft with Tarja , we built this house, and the most recent one is "sign of Hope". i was a kid in west germany back in the 80s. half my family lived in east germany and i remember like yesterday how it felt to visit them. hours of waiting at the border, vigurous car inspections by the border military, driving to the local police presidium to register followed by at least another hour of waiting for documents (for a simple matter that usually would take 5 minutes) and then finally drive to my families place. the east germans weren't allowed to travel to germany with their kids, to reduce the risk of them fleeing to the west. so we mostly traveled to them. it was such a great moment when the berlin wall fell and all the borders opened. random people meeting in that moment just behind the border in west germany and people celebrating together.

Good history behind this song. It was written the night the Scorpions played the Moscow Music festival. It was the first western music festival in the former soviet block after the fall of the Berlin wall. The band had finished the concert and were doing the tourist thing. They got on a boat that sailed the Moskva river through Moscow. Being a band of Germans, the wall was an ever present embodiment of division and distrust, that had been nullified. Klaus Meinethe singer and song writer said, that night, he felt such hope for the future. We had avoided mutually assured annihilation. There was good reason to whistle a tune of hope. The walls that separate us now are not physical. That makes it harder to get purchase. Tomorrow is counting on us to fix this every bit as much as we needed those that came before to fix their

I was stationed in Germany from '86 to after Desert Storm in February '91. There were people who still got killed in 1989 trying to escape. Before Desert Storm, our unit would go to Grafenwoehr for a month to do live fires. There would be times we were allowed to get close enough to see small towns in East Germany. They would always tell us not to make any sudden actions to the East German Guards. They told us they could shoot. It was really sad knowing that people were still trying to escape and died. Had they waited just a couple of months they could have just walked over the lines. When we finally passed over to East Germany to see what it was like we were shocked. There was a very high tv tower that they converted to a restaurant. When you went to the top you could see the entire city. It really hit people hard to see how the Germans lived on the East vs West. it was night and day. I never have forgotten about that and it's been 32 years ago. My family on my Mom's side are all German. I grew up living there in my early years. This was the song that meant so much. Nice Reaction.

You are absolutely right we are not separate. We need to treat each other alot better than we do. Don't be sad because your channel does bring people together!
