I never realized until I was enlightened that "losing my religion" comes from the south, meaning basically losing my temper, my self control etc. It's amazing. We live in a small country and there is Sooooo much to learn from one another. Black, White, Brown, Yellow, we can all learn from one another. We're not that different. 🤗🤔😎

Yep it’s a very common and often heard saying here in the south. Lived all my 52 years in Louisiana and I’ve heard the saying my whole life. Probably hear it or say it a few times a month. I forgot that people not from the south have no understanding of our many many sayings. We got a whole bunch of them for sure. Our sayings are a whole language on their own lol!

Michael used this in the way of losing belief in everything because of an unrequited love. Not anger, nor anything to do with religion as such.

Fun Fact: R.E.M was inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame in 2007. Eddie Vedder( lead singer of Pearl Jam) gave the speech during the induction.

PLEASE IF YOU ARE IN CRISIS OR KNOW SOMEONE WHO IS CALL THE SUICIDE PREVENTION HOTLINE AND GET HELP. This is one of their biggest radio played hits, love it. With 15 studio albums they have a ton of amazing music for you to discover. Every album has a slightly different sound and yet are all still “their sound”. Up tempo try “what’s the frequency Kenneth” or “it’s the end of the world”. For deeper lyrics like this one try “Everybody Hurts”

Every now and then, there is a song that is transcendent. It crosses borders, boundaries, ethnicities, you name it and becomes something special. 1991 had a couple songs that did that, Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana is one, and this is another. Additionally, sometimes the right song gets the right video. Enjoy the Silence by Depeche Mode and Jeremy by Pearl Jam both became famous videos for the second video made for those songs. Here, an artist named Tarsem directed this video. He's also directed some movies. Many of the images in this video are based upon works of art or stories from around the world. A transcendent song paired with an exceptional video created a Masterpiece that won...almost every award that it could win. BTW, Losing My Religion is a Southern term that can be used to mean that someone is about to lose control and lose their temper or lose control and fall madly in love. I'm glad you 2 got to hear and watch and share with each other and with us. Thanks for that! ~Be Blessed

"Losing my religion" is a Southern saying meaning "losing my temper", through an association (which I personally disagree with, but whatever) between religion and morality. As in, for a culture that thinks religion = morality, losing your temper and being immoral/hurtful is losing your religion.

Mel says "it took me to a place of confusion". Yep, she's got it. Confusion and rejection. What do you do when you pour your soul into someone, like they're a religion, but they turn away...? "The lengths that I will go to: the distance in your eyes".... AMAZING song.
