I wondered why we didn't get the KA in the US. I'm commonly told it's because it's specifically for the overseas market, but i now realize. It would simply be too powerful when compared to our trucks and it would dominate the auto market here. 😆

This absolutely deserves a proper offroad build now. Some of the bits from the spec rally series like the limited slip diff, uprated driveshafts and CV's, an probably the cage. Give it a bit more of a lift with better travel if you can, some skid plates, modifications so the tires don't scrub, and some more offroad friendly tires while you're at it. Thing would embarrass some serious machines.

I remember my mum having one of these when they came out, and I loved borrowing it, and my daughters first car was one of these, bought for 100 quid. I used to grab her keys if I was popping across my local country bends as you could just have fun in them. Dive a 10/10ths feeling you're doing 100 when doing 40, something you just can't do in even a 200bhp car on our small roads.

a lift would be the best. the shape of the car doesn't leave much in front or behind the tires to snag on stuff so the only thing holding it back is the underside

My mom had a Ka (same year same model but blue) for 10 years. I live in an area where it snows in winter and this car had ZERO problems on snow. Like i've seen it climb my road which gets up to 10% steep with ease with only winter tires on snow or ice it's an amazing car

We lift the trucks so we can do this in comfort for 10 hours a day driving between sites, instead of cringing and breaking our backs all day. We can also get through the trails faster so we can get our work done sooner. Taking a beater through a trail and worrying about if it's going to make it is not what you want to be doing 100 miles from a town on the side of a hill.

having had 2 Ka's (97 & 98 models) they are extremely good. good reliable engine (basically dates back to the early 80's) that has plenty of poke for such small HP (59hp on the pre 2003's). Pretty roomy. Pretty much a go kart. While it was designed and accepted as more a feminine car (see its top gear appearance) its seen as a fun car by any whose driven one

It's always a great Overdrive video when Will gets both beeped and blurred 😂 In my college days a few friends and I would frequently off roading in the deserts outside of Phoenix in Arizona with a little Geo Metro. Similar terrain but without the water and vegetation. The best part was that when we'd get stuck it wasn't terribly difficult for us to lift the thing over the obstacles just enough to get going again. This series really brings back the memories!

I used to work at Ford in the 90's when the Ka first came out, i have SOOO MANY STORIES OF THE KA that it would BLOW your mind that you wouldn't BELIEVE them true... until 30 minutes in i could bet your on your phone looking for one...they are mind-blowing and i have soo many great memories of the extremes i pushed them.

Its amazing how far you can get in a vehicle you don't care too much about breaking, that is super light, has a short wheelbase and hardly any overhang. That pickup was so long that its breakover angle isn't great and the rear overhang is huge. Those double wheels put a lot of work in and I am amazed that you only punctured one. The mighty KA cannot be stopped! At least on the downhills that is. I have done offroading quite a bit in a 4runner and it is always hilarious seeing some old thrashed car get through something it has no business being on. The main this is how comfortably it will do it and how much I trust each one to get me home at the end of the day.

The story of the KA is pretty cool and many years ago I remember talking to my uncle about them as he was a ford mechanic for many years. Apparently due to the wheels being in so far in the corners and how the suspension is set up he told me it’s acts more like a beach buggy. I don’t think it get the proper love and respect it deserves as a car but I’m glad these guys are showing how amazing it is even if original bought as a joke.

That's just damn impressive. Really, you would never think it from looking at the thing. Please make a video getting this thing on a hoist and inspecting the engine mounts, CV shafts, bushes etc. It would be interesting to see how it has held (or not) up.

I've said it before and shall say it again, nothing can stop small city cars. Never pretentious machines, often mocked and derided, but actually much more solid, reliable and capable than given credit. Plus, since they're worth nothing to buy and repair, you don't mind thrashing them.

When you understand the engineering for that ka and it's purpose it's not surprising how well it does. The engines are strong, the suspension is well built for its weight. The only downside is it's very basic with next to no frills

Small light cars with small distance from the bumpers to the wheels and small distance between the axles, are great off road. I had a Peugeot 106 and I've been to places that a modern suv couldn't go. One time on a dirty road going to an isolated beach, a suv was following me, I passed through a difficult spot with some caution but easily, he almost broke his car because of his confidence seeing me passing it with ease

The reason why Ka seems so good against that 4x4 is because of much shorter wheel base. Basically, the only thing that pickup has against the Ka is the 4 wheel drive. Other than that, they are on the same level for off roading.
