I’ve watched a lot of the pole barn home builds on KZfaq and being a custom home builder I think this start to finish video is the best I’ve seen for those do it yourselfers needing a good overview of the building process. What you’ve done can be done by nearly anyone with the right amount of planning, budgeting and commitment. You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to build a home. Just keep the first one simple like these folks have done. I’d encourage anyone interested in doing this to earmark this video for learning the process, how to techniques and inspiration. You will not only save money and enjoy the country lifestyle but by doing this you will both learn and acquire a lifetime skill set and acquire a confidence that will help you overcome many other challenges in your life’s journey. I built my first home when I was 22 years old working on it part time from my regular job and to my surprise a doctor bought it from me. So I kept on going and built another one, and then an other and another. I’m now a 76 year old but still enthusiastic about building. Thanks for making this video and to all that watch it be encouraged. Best wishes to everyone.

I love what you’ve done with your pole barn house. Would you mind telling me what you used to finish your concrete floors and if over time it’s something that has held up? My daughter and I are in the process of purchasing an existing Pole barn with the intention of converting it to a house. We have been homeless for a year now and are so ready to have a home again.

@LifeOnTheRidge

The walls are in sections because they put up the 2x6 purlins to attach the metal too and I studded up between them. R value is 23 all the way around. Thanks for watching!

Do you think with a different floor plan a small loft could be built over some of the area? Say like 8 ft ceilings in bedroom/bath area with loft above that with higher open ceiling in Kitchen / Living area? How tall is the tallest part of the house? Sorry for all the questions on your videos but each one peaks my interest and leaves me with different questions.
@LifeOnTheRidge
@LifeOnTheRidge 3 жыл бұрын
You could definitely do it with a loft above. Probably have to do a little taller side walls though. My side walls are 10'. The peak of the roof is about 14'

Love your channel! In One of your videos you mentioned some thing about the insurance. My husband and I want to build one of these but with a sharp attached also. Is there a problem with insurance if there’s a shop attached?
@LifeOnTheRidge
@LifeOnTheRidge 3 жыл бұрын
Great question. So with our insurance company they said it makes it easier to insure if it isn't connected to a shop. Why that is the case, I'm not sure. But it's worth asking your insurance agent about. Thanks for watching!

You have to buy special nails for the ram shot tool. They (ram shot) sell a nail just for that application. I can't remember but I think I put a nail about every other stud or every 2 studs.

Congrads on your new house. I am in the building planning process and have been for awhile now. cough, cough.. haha. What is the R value on your ceiling insulation and do you wish you would have went traditional trusses vs. steel if cost was out of the picture. Curious about all the interior finishing and insulation with steel trusses. Thanks in advance, Robert.
