What I offer that is most fair and guests get onboard with and also opens up their eyes to our world is: they cancel to get cleaning fee and taxes back. then we give them 100% of the proceeds we get for any days we get rebooked that fall under their original booking dates. So we're guaranteed the original amount and they potentially get some money back

For the cancellation we had, the guests quickly volunteered the info that they had insurance and so everything worked out. But I never thought about asking the question about travel insurance! Will definitely keep that in mind for next time. Great advice!
