Our dream to buy a boat and begin sailing started 5-6 years ago. Now, we have come to the most terrifying decision of our lives. In this video we share our decision and the reasons that led us to our choice as well as a real time update on all our progress and plans for what's next.

Wilmington Marine Center (Wilmington NC) can lift cats up to 25 feet wide and you can do your own work there. Used them after our boat was damaged at Southport Marina during Hurricane Isaias and saw several cats lifted. S/V Gentle Breeze

No need to apologize for this not being a "normal" video. This was the most normal video you have ever done, two interesting people sharing their journey through life warts and all. You mentioned wanting to replace your escape hatches. I don't know if you have looked into ordering replacements but I have heard there are some supply chain issues with hatches. Lots of people are rooting for your family to fulfill your dreams.

Hi Russ, Thank you! Yes, we already purchased the replacement escape hatches. About 6 months ago we found the perfect replacement on Defender marine and we bought them knowing we would be in trouble if we didn’t buy them immediately. I'm up in Spartanburg and look forward to living vicariously through your project. Kudos for just being married. Most of these youtuber couples are not. I am a physician as well and with health care being in such high demand, I suspect you could do locums during the hurricane season and save up enough and prepare for the cruising season. Bon Voyage!

Very good to start your real life my dear friends! I got enough of my work at age of 55 and quit then, the second best that have done. Now we have been retired for 23 years, enjoy sailing on summers. All good to your lpvely family.

I recently changed all hoses and the heat exchanger on the generator and was able to find Gates hoses that you can order that have the same bends as the expensive hoses from the OEM. Ex. one hose from ebay was 6.00 and was able to cut three of the small hoses that were about 18.00 a piece from cummings Onan. Love the video.

Wow! Great deals. We often find EBay is the best price… Walmart is also a good place to look. We were able to buy 18 tubes of sika flex 291 for around nine dollars a tube on Walmart. Almost half the price of other places! Cheers, Corey

Fantastic video guys, I mean I love the project videos as much as the next person, but this one really hit me .. do it now whilst you can. We have friends who have just starting RV'ing across the US & CA (from Oz like me) and you have to step back for a few mins and consider .. don't work yourself to death, enjoy life whist you can 'cause you're dead longer than you are alive!

Since Escape hatches failing on some makes of boats it might be worth contacting FP to see if there is the boating equivalent of a factory recall in which case they might be free. Worth an e-mail anyhow

Hi Glenn, actually we already researched this. There was a “recall” for specific years because the escape hatches were failing prematurely. I read at least one boat was lost due to this failure. FP did replace hatches for a bunch of boats. Our catamaran is a 1996 and the hatches are simply at the end of their lifespan. Lucky, we were able to buy the hatches we needed before they became unavailable d/t the supply chain issues. This was a good idea though, thanks for your thoughts! Corey

@@SaltyEscape Wife's name is Ana Jones. We always had an inside joke about "In the Ana"Jones sounding like Indiana Jones. I'm not sure if I will keep the name, but having her name on the boat will hopefully entice her to come aboard every now and then. She is a hard sell.

Publix, west marine, restaurants, it’s relatively close to hardware stores. Plus the marina has a ships store. There is a canvas shop too. Never knew it was there until today.

The escape hatch…. Is that what happened to the Wynns?

We’ll video the replacement but I think the Wynns had trouble with theirs also. We have two, one in each hull. They are designed to allow you to “escape” if the boat should flip over (extremely rare). The problem is that they are a glass window and the glue that holds the glass in place is old and failing. These hatches are near the waterline and if a wave takes the glass out we could sink (from more waves splashing in). Zatara just had an issue with there’s and it looked like they took on a lot of water. I think “The Sailing Family” did also. It’s a critical component that we need to fix. 😊

@@jackienation7694 Yes, I remember that. That was very scary for them… I would’ve been scared too!! They had a leopard catamaran and the escape hatch was just inside the sliding doors. I’m pretty sure they had leaks coming from it as well.
