Also totally agree on the themed shelves. They're a cool creative outlet for the adult who is interested in that, but the reality is...a child isn't going to suddenly be only into snowflakes and snowmen just because it's winter. Case in point, I tried adding a few heart activities this week...and Stella discovered a love for the star shape. "Those are cute stickers you got there mom but have you seen THIS?! 🌟 " Your approach is exactly how it is in the class 🥰

Exactly!! It makes me feel less stressed, too, so it’s a win all around to not worry about themes. And, lol, that’s too funny - Stella seems like such a character! 🤣🤣

Thank you for making this video! It couldn’t have come at a more perfect time. Nuri was wait listed for the only American Montessori school here since last year only to find out yesterday that they’re closing permanently in May. I never expected to homeschool her but that just may be the route if we’re still in Germany this fall! I so appreciate your stress-free, realistic approach to homeschooling. There’s a rhythm you’ve established that just makes sense! I am definitely looking into the NAMC curriculum and the waseca reading program. Thank you as always for the wealth of information, the guidance, and the time you put into ALL of this so we don’t have to! You’re amazing ❤️

Yes!! While it's not a traditional curriculum, there's still a natural progression of materials. As for a 3 hour cycle-sometimes you will find a child who is enthralled in shelf work all 3 hours, but it is very common for them to float between shelf work, art, practical life, and even outside (if there is a work set up outside with an adult there). All that can include practicing rolling a rug, reading a book, washing their hands, watering the flowers..and then some multiplication. You've got a very realistic schedule, actually! Does Kylie ever ask for works that she had already completed? Or are some of them over in their shared play space? I remember even the older kids would sometimes go back to the pink tower or brown stairs to work on extensions or do the lock/key work even if they've mastered it.
@HapaFamily
@HapaFamily 2 жыл бұрын
Usually those kinds of works are stored in their shared playspace when they come out from storage because Mia also likes to try/do them. But in all honesty, Kylie is not really a kid who likes to repeat work frequently that she has already mastered. If she does, it’s usually just for that once and then she’s over it again. So we bring out older materials on occasion for Mia, but otherwise, only unless Kylie asks for it specifically (which isn’t often).

Ashley, I absolutely adore you. I’ll admit I do not fully commit to Montessori with my daughter. However I do love incorporating a lot of practical life and learning styles you show in your videos into our lives. I’ve learned so much just about being a good parent and communicator with my child through your videos. They’ve been so much more helpful than you know. I’ve also preordered your book and I cannot wait for it to come out!

Although I was unable to fully immerse my oldest into Montessori, my 2nd WILL be going to a Montessori school when he turns 3 in June. Luckily, there is 1 that is in walking distance from our house and after watching your videos and vlogs from the beginning, I can now say that I feel more knowledgeable and “ready” to move forward with this lifestyle. It’ll be interesting to see the differences and/or results (if any) between my 2 kids from the traditional opposed to the Montessori approach! 🤔🤗🙂

I had to make those continent cards for my Montessori training, but I’m happy to have them for the cultural units we are doing and will do with my daughter. I’m still unsure if I’m going back into teaching and then my children will also be going to the same Montessori school as well. For this reasons I’ve been very minimal with buying Montessori materials until I know for sure. I also use many printable materials. I’m impressed you have the golden beads, they’re a wonderful learning tool.

Hi Ashley, thank you for sharing these resources and your own personal experience. One question for you please. With the NAMC, I was looking over their sample manuals and lessons and I noticed some of the lessons had material that isn’t included in the support material for example practical life sample lesson has the red rods. I love your simple approach, How are you working around these so you’re not having to purchase everything?

Hi Ashley! Would you be able to make a video on bedroom sharing with multiple kids. My son will be 3.5 when we would like to transition the new baby into his bedroom. It would be so helpful to get a Montessori perspective on how to do this. I am nervous about the idea of a 6 months old in a floor bed with our toddler (even though our son is incredibly gentle and loving). Maybe conversations to have and how to practice safety with him during the transition might be helpful?. Any help or advice would be great.

thank you so much this is extremely helpful! Does NAMC have a curriculum for after the age of 6? or do you recommend something? My son is only 19 months but we are planning on homeschooling him and just wondering what we would do after the age of 6. The NAMC seems like the option I would use to start! Seems like the easiest one to follow and I love that everything you need is included.

I’ve been following you for one year. You are so amazing and have inspired me so much. I have a 3 year old boy, who attended pre-k 3 and it starting preschool in the fall. He was taught the alphabet but not the letter sounds. At home this summer I am teaching him the letter sounds with the sandpaper letters, but he’s having a difficult time tracing the letters and memorizing the sounds of the letters. I have worked on the same 3 letters each day twice a day, for one week and he still doesn’t know how to trace the letter correctly or letter sounds, but he will only recognize the letter but not the sound. I know it’s important to learn the alphabet sounds first, but he was taught to first memorize the letters of the alphabet.I have seen your brilliant videos on this topic but my son is not following. Do you have any recommendations? Thank you!

Hello Ashley. This is my first question, even though I have been watching your videos for a while now; I treat them as reference material. You always give product or book recommendations with options of low cost or no cost alternatives. Kindly let me know if it is possible to homeschool a 3 year old till the age of 6 or 7, without purchasing a formal curriculum. I could afford to buy one, no doubt, but am not sure if homeschooling would be successful for our toddler and for us for that length of time. Thanks very much.

You’ve come to the right place! Ashley has a series of great videos for that age range which have helped me with setting up my home and also with activities for each stage (0-3m, 3-6m, 6-9m, etc.). And she always puts links in the video descriptions for the resources she talks about, which is so helpful! She has a well-organized Amazon storefront which is extremely helpful as well. Ashley also has some videos with great book recommendations. Some of the books I’ve found most helpful with practical application are: For babies: 1) Baby’s First Year Milestones (Aubrey Hargis) 2) Montessori Baby (Simone Davies) For Toddlers: 1) Montessori Toddler (Simone Davies) 2) Whole Brained Child (Daniel J. Siegel) 3) Toilet Awareness (Sarah Moudry) And of course I can’t wait to read Ashley’s book when it comes out because her book will be another amazing resource! Oh yeah and she has a course available too! I haven’t taken her course but if it’s anything like her videos it will be helpful and amazing! I hope this helps. I’d start with Ashley’s Montessori at Home video series and Montessori Activity Ideas By Age series (find them on her youtube channel playlist). The videos are so applicable with examples and resource links!

The NAMC program covers three full years of curriculum maps & spiral bound guides that detail every lesson, plus the physical mathematics materials (golden beads, colored beads, and black/white beads), the language program materials, and lots of printables for everything else on the included USB drive. :) All of it together is $649 (like I said, a bit steep but there are other options, too!).

Hey there! I'm no expert, but what has helped me in such situations (my daughter is also 2 years old), is to 'follow the child'. Which book(s) does she want read to her? What does she like about it? Can you make an activity around that? For example, my daughter was in love with a book that had different vehicles in it (airplane, train, bicycle, racing car, ship, hot air balloon, etc). So we got her a toy train, a car, made paper boats and let them float in a bowl of water, etc. So she is learning more, interacting in a different way, but its still based on the book. Hope this helps!
