They showed this on Turner Classic Movies as a celebration of great composers. I just LOVE the night time visuals of the train passing, with this gorgeous score. A celebration of the humble simplicity of a train chugging away across a vast landscape. I am from Canada and I sometimes imagine a winter version of this scene with an old CPR train driving across the prairies in the middle of nowhere surrounded by snow with the foothills of the Rockies in the distance. John Barry wrote a lot of wonderful film scores including many 007 themes and won an Oscar for this one. He’s right up there with Ennio Morricone in my books.

This is the most beautiful theme I ever heard for a film, it goes perfect with the film which is one of my favorite films ever. Full of passion and beauty. Thank you so much for this magnificent music!

I remember when this movie came out. Saw it only on video (vhs) not in the theater and thought….”what’s the big deal?” When I got my big plasma tv, I had purchased the Blu-ray because it was REALLY cheap and thought….”eh, just want to see how the picture looks.” As an adult I was MESMERIZED and swept up in the story. BLOWN AWAY! Won best picture for a reason! ❤

To experience such a great love, I wish many people on earth. I get to experience it now. In addition to Meryl and Robert, I also liked Klaus Maria Brandauer very much. NGL they don’t make movies like this anymore. The sweeping epic tales that transport you to another world with humanity and soul are no more. The English Patient was probably the last of its kind. And no, MCU movies, while supremely entertaining, are not that.

@@mensrea1251 It is a much deeper story than The King and I, but it does involve the same principals, Anna Leonowens and the King. I was careful to use the words "inspired by" in my description of the movie, because it's not purely biographical. But rest assured, it is a magnificent movie. Chow Yun-Fat is unforgettable as the King.
