Detroit can be a great city if they invest in it and do like they did with NYC. (BK and Harlem) back in the 90s when it was really bad now these areas are very safe and expensive

No one mentions UAW workers and teacher's union as a problem.
@sixmile23605 жыл бұрын
Rebecca Martinez I spent thirty years as a manager at GM. Please tell me how unions helped cause the downfall of Detroit. Be careful and do not regurgitate partisan nonsense. I spent 20 of those years assessing both the statistical impact of union labor on the viability of the company and also the contractual impact on maximal efficiency on not only GM but Ford Motor also. So go ahead enlighten with something beyond rhetoric.

@@sixmile2360 Four months later and you're still waiting on a response. No worries though, you shut her down because she had nothing else left to say about why she thinks unions are bad. All I hear from these pro-capitalist sheeple that worship their pro-capitalist politician "Gods" is about how bad unions are. Somehow these demons have convinced their followers to vote and go against their own human rights.

Hakeem Sd70M For the most part I think you are right. For me the exercise was non political. My conclusions were simple. Rank and file membership are, for the most part, hard working and ethical. Floor level union leadership members (stewards) are often ideologues and can make ill advised decisions. Much of the senior leadership in unions are entrenched bureaucrats with a penchant for unethical behavior. My old cohorts in management? Ego driven paper shufflers whose only goal is to secure a bigger office and a bigger house in West Bloomfield.

@@sixmile2360 Well UAW keep calling the pension crisis a sacred promise, Detroit was losing people and the UAW wouldn't budge even tough there were no tax payers to pay the bill but if they really cared for Detroit's community they would have made things more business friendly to deal with the oil embargo, to deal with the small business leaving and cut taxes for everyone to stop the government from wasting money on public transport that no-one uses and let the people decide how to fix things. Not even happy with that Detroit raised his minimum wage just to tell the few business remaining to leave. Personally i distribute the blame with: 70% bad government decisions. 20% uni0ns uncooperative with the reality of their situation. 10% car companies they should have left the moment the union started bargaining but for negotiating with the UAW they legitimize a behavior that's very reprehensible.

Everyone votes against their own interest because, politicians don't have just 1 political stance have many there are some that people like and some people h@t3 everyone votes acording to their hierarchy of values and the values of the politician unless you agree 100% with your politician i may ask why you vote against your interest? Sheep's D3m0ns those are harsh words do you think UAW would take a bu££3+ for their fellow workers.

detroit has low rent low property taxes, wide streets and good public transportation. it has everything the other major booming hubs lack. people are sick and tired of paying all their paycheck in rent and mortgage and the crumbling infrastructure in east coast cities. companies are tired to people missing work because the subway broke down! I see sooner rather then latter companies will move to Detroit or cleveland or other cities with good public transport, which have lower housing cost. detroit must do better work with special zoning like medical/biotech just make it easy for company to move in.

I wish us Christ followers would use the term "integrity" instead of pride. The Word talks about the negatives of being prideful. I know what is meant when people say pride, they really mean respect, integrity. Pride comes before the fall. Proverbs 16:18.

Sorry - we've heard this same narrative many, many, many times before. Detroit is dead. It was was already very ill, but the death blow came in in the summer of 1967. It just took thirty year's to slowly bleed out.

SuperSix Delta Are you kidding?! I’m a college educated technology worker with 2 degrees in computer science! Detroit is like MECCA! I can work here, live cheap and dump my tax dollars into the local economy... and I’m not the only one! There’s many more coming from where I did! Your city is a blessing and it’s only going to get better!

SuperSix Delta Have you ever been to Detroit. My guess is you will not answer this question or will tell me that you visited a few times. I live here. I am a retired executive manager. I am witnessing a staggering comeback in the 48 square mile city core. It is obvious that you have either never been here or choose to ignore what is obvious. Which one is it?

You might have heard the narrative many times before but this time it is becoming more true as time goes on. Detroit along with my home city of Buffalo are both coming back and both maligned cities are attracting young and middle age people to invest, work, and live. Both Detroit and Buffalo are going to be America’s next two comeback kids. Many Americans are fleeing high priced coastal locales like LA and NYC and moving inland to cheaper locales like Detroit and Buffalo where the living is stress free and housing doesn’t take three quarters of your annual income.
