Accuracy on first range day on my 7.4lbs rifle with the 300wsm. Looking to handload soon, I have all the brass, powder, primers, and projectiles I need. I plan to load 200gr ELDx projectiles first as I like that for an all purpose bullet. Let me know your thoughts and stay tuned for future range videos.

Those new norma rounds are great! Bought a few boxes as they were in stock for 50 bucks. Lots of advantages to the 300 wsm with weight and not needing a massive barrel. Been torturing myself to go with the savage 100 ultralite or wait on the Browning Mountain Pro in 300 WSM and spend the extra money. Great video!

I have the same rifle in 280ai. I picked up an anarchy outdoors radial break and it works great and it's a seem less fit. It's a titanium break that knocks down about 60%of the recoil. It looks good as well

Also, a thin radial brake might be worth it to keep weight down. That group that is all horizontal stringing is actually good. Grab that one again and test it a couple more times. Horizontal (windage) strings are usually caused by the shooter. You might consider doing 3 shot groups with a bipod and rear sandbag. Just my 2 cents tho

Have been thinking about a Savage Ultra for a while. On the accuracy front, Tikka offers the same 3 shot 1 MOA on their rifles. My T3X Hunter in 7mm-08 shots Winchester/ PPU / Hornady 139-140gr factory loads right at and under the 1 MOA @100. Federal made a exclusive brand for Academy Sports store chain. Using the Fusion bonded bullet, this load produced 4"-6" three shot groups @ 100 yards. You just never know what a rifle will like or grudge hate lol.

I have 300 WSM w proof carbon barrel. Mine was super finicky to seating depth. I struggled to shoot under 1MOA. Until I shot 190 Berger VLD, shot them jammed .01 H4350. 10 shots in .6MOA and 7 shots .42 consistently. Don’t waste components like I did. Never got the 200 eldx to group consistently under a minute. They averaged 1 plus MOA. Norma 180s shot ok, I’d get 2-3 touching then 2 shots way out of the group, seems like yours does the same as my Proof. Get Berger and try jam, it’ll be like nite and day

I looked in the savage manual and it shows that they use winchester 150 gr ballistic silvertip ammo to test fire at the factory. Being that savage has an accuracy guarantee I would trythis ammo before you decide to try and send it back. Keep your powder dry

Really considering one in 300wsm, just wish it was in win mag. Got a crap ton of that ammo already. Want a mountain rifle in 300, go well with my nomad30. Sacrifice the aluminum bedding in the ultralite to save weight, there for its also not gonna shoot as accurate

Savage has to pump out an accurate rifle every now and then because in every video with a savage, you’ll have a bunch of savage fans making every excuse in the book as to why the savage in the video doesn’t group well. I was disappointed myself because I had high hopes for that rifle because of the price point. You’re basically paying a few hundred dollars for a blueprint action. I say a few hundred because the proof barrels are basically $1000 alone. Great video. I really enjoyed watching this review.

@@isaacspoon first, congratulations on your new addition and I wish the baby a healthy life also hope the new job is fruitful. Just kind of sucks when you spend a arm and a leg on a rifle and then have to put more money on a stock just for it to shoot. Especially when the stock or I should say chassis is as costly as that one! It’s become to me anyway, to just build custom rifles rather than trying to improve rifles. I look forward to seeing the future content!

Your first 3 shots look to be 1moa. Then they spread out. The barrel heats up and usually throws shot 4 and 5 with most rifles. Do yourself a favor and stick to 3 shot groups. It will reduce barrel heating and adverse effects and also flinch. However. That 110 is a 1moa gun. I have the same in 6.5 PRC. It’s a 1/2 Mia gun. All day long!
@isaacspoon
@isaacspoon 2 жыл бұрын
I changed stocks (switched to an XLR industries element 4.0 magnesium) and it instantly dropped my group size to .75 moa or better on 5 shot groups. I believe the stock is too flimsy for this recoil and makes contact on the barrel when I shoot/rest it on the bag. I made another video showing that happening on the channel and I am about to release a new video showing how simply changing the stock shrinks the groups with this rifle

Where you ever able to find a factory ammo that your gun likes? I have the same rifle in 300 WSM and getting 3-5 inch groups from Norma bondstrike 180, Hornady Precision Hunter 200 and Federal Fusion 180. I have 3 other 300 win mags that shoot circles around this thing so far. I’m disappointed to say the least. I am looking at Stocky’s carbon fiber stock, XLR chassis or MDT LSS gen2 as an option to tighten things up. My other option is to replace it and move on. What are your thoughts?
@isaacspoon
@isaacspoon Жыл бұрын
All factory ammo groupings drastically shrunk when I changed my stock. Precision hunter was seeing about .75” groups without trying too hard to get smaller groups. I believe the factory stock is just too flimsy to handle what’s going on and it’s making contact in places it shouldn’t be
@robertneal4112

@@isaacspoon I am considering Stocky’s NextGen UltraLite Carbon Fiber VG2™ Savage 10/110 Stock. My goal is to keep this as light weight as possible. I also like the XLR chassis but they are on a 30 week backorder. The mdt lss is not much heavier and is available today. I think you are right that the Tupperware stock is not coping well with moderate recoiling calibers. Which way would you go? Is it worth waiting for the XLR? My purpose for this rifle is to use it on my annual Nilgai and Aoudad hunt in South Texas. The Stocky’s stock looks and sounds great, but I do not see many reviews.
@isaacspoon
@isaacspoon Жыл бұрын
@@robertneal4112 I think either one would be a good choice. If you prefer the XLR chassis, reach out to them. There was an extended backorder when I was looking at getting mine and they had a few on the shelf they used at trade shows showing them off. Mine was desert tan, which wouldn’t have been my first choice, but I could buy it right away and it shipped in a few days. I of course added Carson fiber on all the accessories and foldable stock attachment as well, but there’s a chance they might have one on the shelf and you wouldn’t have to wait 30weeks

After watching this I'm inclined to think it's you and not the gun. There is no way you have a steady rest and also the point you are picking to aim at makes zero sense for testing
@isaacspoon
@isaacspoon 2 жыл бұрын
After reading this comment I’m inclined you’ve never shot for groups. Picking a fine point such as a corner of a target gives you a more accurate holding point for shooting than a 1/2” size red dot in the middle of the target. I’m a 1/2” moa shooter all day long on any of my accurate rifles. It is the stock not the gun. I’ve changed the stock to an XLR magnesium chasis and it shoots lights out now. I appreciate the concern though

Horrible gun. Just picked on up and it is the worst action I've ever felt on any gun and I shoot a lot. Haven't even shot the gun yet and the action is so bad I'm looking at custom actions and I'm just going to throw away the savage garbage. Get a Tikka or Browning x bolt and you'll be happy out of the box and won't have to spend an extra 1500 to get something good enough for a proof research barrel
