Bowie landing in our living room was like watching an alien arrive. It was glorious. Also he mentions "The Norfolk Broads" which weirdly is now where this London girl lives. Bowie didn't die, he went home to his own planet.

He was like a shapeshifter, and he truly inhabited each new persona, such fluidity and charisma!⚡💖

After watching the new bowie ‘documentary’ Moonage Daydream and another called ‘the last five years’, i am convinced that he was easily one of (if not THE) greatest artists of our time. One of a kind was bowie…or more…one of many kinds! Credit also must go to the late, great Mick Ronson who not only played phenomenal guitar but also wrote the string arrangements here…one of his first attempts at it. Not bad for a first, eh? I miss both those guys badly

It's based on a dream he'd had where his late father came up to him and told him he would only have five more years left to live, super emotional piece, he was actually crying while recording the end of the song!! Did it all in one take, too.

As I told you JM this is the first voice he had, typically British. I was reading about this video that he was not happy about doing it like this. They had phone ringing during the recording, he wanted to play an instrument. Bowie play piano, guitar, sax he's very talented. YES!.... David Bowie is certainly a "Very Unique Package". Notice the different size of his eye pupils. Left side is larger than the right. David took his last name from the famous Jim Bowie Knife that was used at the Alamo in Texas and gained notoriety then. David liked the name. Most everything from this artist is different.

It's another key moment in Bowie's evolution, and believe me, it's not the last by a long shot :D !

There's actually an interesting story about the origins of this song! Bowie's record company had given him the task of translating a french song, when completed, he turned in the translated version titled 'Even a Fool Learns to Love'. They were unsatisfied with the piece, giving the task to a different managing company. The final translation ended up being 'My Way' by Frank Sinatra. Bowie was outraged by the success of this version over his own, so he wrote 'Life on Mars' in retaliation. 'Life on Mars' ended up being about a girl who is unhappy with her home life, so she's completely infatuated with fantasy stories and films as they give her a chance to get away from her own reality. The girl he's speaking about in the song (the girl with the mousy hair), was a real woman that Bowie wrote about quite often around this time, her name was Hermione Farthingale. Bowie described her as his first love. Also, the reason one of his eyes was dilated was because of an injury. He had a crush on one of his friend's girlfriends back in school, rightfully so his friend hit him in the eye for it. Ended up paralyzing the pupil. Same guy that hit him in the eye, George Underwood, actually designed a couple album covers for Bowie later on!! Plus Bowie is pronounced Boh-ee!! 😂

One of my heroes (pun intended) is David Bowie. “A very different Bowie” Let’s just say,he went through Changes,achieved Fame and became a Diamond Dog.

They made a 25-minute documentary entirely about this track and nothing else ---in Sweden. Wherever I happen to be, it's an instant four-minute daydream in a cinema, and it'll never lose its luster for me. For something just a bit different, dig *"Can You Hear Me?"* from his Young Americans album (1975)...

This song… It means so much. I learned to sing it. But I could never portray what David did. Nor even the children with the flutes.

The piano was played by Rick Wakeman and Bowie's different eye colour was caused by a punch in a fight for a girl. Anyway, what a genius. RIP David.
