I watched this movie many times when I was a kid. Now that I'm 40, I'm wondering why it was even in my house to begin with. My mom was a rigid Christian. I'm convinced it was there for me. Pay attention to what you enjoyed as a child because there are clues in all your favorite childhood movies, music and books, etc. I've always been interested in existential subjects and I'm learning that my soul is very old. No wonder I loved thus movie at 10 years old!!

I was only 14 when this came out on TV. I was compelled to record it at the time. And i watched the movie over and over again for about a year as it had such rich meaning to it and i always learned something every time i watched it! At 14 it all made sense to me. It put the pieces together for me growing up in a catholic upbringing and opened my mind to new awareness. For that I'm always grateful to Shirley for being a trailblazer in bringing metaphysical spirituality to the mainstream. 🙏 ❤

@@evamariebryde Not at all, organized religion has been proved to be absolute bunk, take that story about Christs great miracles before the huge crowds, well guess WHAT, it never happened, we KNOW this for a fact, if it HAD occurred it would have been recorded by the HISTORIANS of the day, it would also have been passed along by word of mouth "REMEMBER THE GREAT MAN AND THOSE FANTASTIC MIRACLES HE PERFORMED?!" Instead we find NOTHING, not a word, not a sigh, not a crumb, only some IDIOT who never knew or met Jesus writing about all of this nonsense some two centuries later!

God, the Creator of everything said: The soul who sins shall die. Ezekiel 18:20 The devil, satan, the father of lies, came along with his very FIRST LIE to humanity... Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. Genesis 3:4 People who talk about the "deep love of God" yet believe everything BUT what HE says are ignorant and deceived. You can not claim to know the love of God if you refuse to know His Word. Man made beliefs may bring you comfort, but they are NOT True, andcthey are not what God teaches. They are just ideas someone made up, period! There are some who, after accepting the free Gift of Salvation found in Jesus Christ, shall live forever, and there are also some who will suffer punishment for sin they refused to repent of, and that punishment is permanent death. So please, do not fool yourselves by following after this made up nonsense about reincarnation. Its demonic, straight from the mouth of the devil himself. he lied to Adam and Eve, telling them that they could go on sinning and never have to die. They KNEW that God said, the soul that sins shall die, period. We all sin, and we all have a Savior in Jesus. Ask Him to forgive you of your sins, turn away from those sins, start reading the Bible, and you will become stronger every day to resist temptation to sin. There is NO OTHER WAY to live forever. If you want to know what happens when a person stops breathing, when they die, please read this: www.adventist.org/death-and-resurrection/ I tell you the Truth, you WILL die, and there's NOTHING you can do about it, but that death is NOT the end of the story. There's really Good News about death if you will simply open your heart to the Good News. God bless you as you search for Truth.

I pray that you have belief in God, that you will read the Holy Bible KJV Reading the Word of God is our (believers of God, the Father; Jesus, the Son, the Christ, the Savior, our Messiah) only protection against satan Reading Psalm 35:1-28 aloud every morning and believing, will give you protection. God communicatea to us while we are reading His Word. And we communicate to God when we pray. The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand. Bare your cross. Buy yourself a cross necklace. Say, "I rebuke thee, in the name of Jesus Christ". Yes, there are so many things out there that are real, but alot of those things have been manifested by satan. Don't "talk to a dead loved one", because, even though they may have their same voice, and may look the same, you need to know that it might actually be satan tricking you into seeing/hearing a loved one that passed on. I don't think that many people realize that when they do meth, that the evil things you might experience are real. Stay away from meth, heroin, cocaine/crack, fentanyl, liquor, etc. I have heard some scary stories. Read Psalm 35:1-28 aloud. Psalm 18:30,31 Psalm 90; 91 Read Matthew; Mark; Luke; and John The Baptist. Read Revelations (the only Book that is entirely from Jesus). Jesus tells us what we will see soon. ❤️✝️📖👑🙏🛐♥️😇📯

I loved this back in the day when it was a made-for-TV movie...and for some reason I decide to watch it again tonight. I quickly found out that Shirley's British socialist lover is played by Charles Dance (Game of Thrones' Lord Tywin) and then, after watching some more, I realized that Shirley's New Age artist friend David is played by recently-deceased actor John Heard. There's a reason why I decided to watch this movie again and it's because John Heard passed away. Peace, Love and Eternal Spirit be with us all.

Indeed, Shirley’s book Out On A Limb, and the movie assisted greatly for me to finally meet my teacher in 1990. I remember going to the Bhodi Tree Bookshop in Los Angelas as a matter of passion, after I got off the plane from Australia. I was off to see my teacher Isa Mafu in the Mountains Of Southern Oregon in 1990. I had been studying with him since 1986. I ended up reading nearly all of Shirley’s books, and I remember the wonderful cab driver who drove me to the Bhodi Tree and waited for me there for 2 hours, while I walked and searched for Edgar Cayce books in the wooden shelves of the Bhodi Tree, Shirley thankyou so much for your passion and commitment to humanity. Tears fall from my eyes as I watch Shirley MacLaine dance through the movie which she sculpted posing lots of questions we all have. Shirley M is what one calls a master acter and thinker. She has a sensitivity for social issues as well, like the movie she directed: Bruno (2009). Her face: beyond beautiful: shivers go up and down my spine in the close-ups of her eyes and lips and hands. She puts them all to work to draw the viewer into the movie making all of us a part of her world. Tears continue to roll down my cheeks when I think of the power of Shirley MacLaine as a visual communicator: her dancing: sublime. Brava, Shirley. You have a generous heart and share it with all of us.

It's a great shame she dresses in fur for much of the film, that demonstrates a distinct lack of empathy. Trapping/imprisoning wild animals to violently steal their body parts is utterly unacceptable. The cruelty of the fur trade is indescribably vile. I'm very disappointed in Miss MacLaine.

Shirley McLain has always been impressive in her movie roles, one of my favorite films is The Apartment with Fred Mcmurray and Jack Lemmon if you’ve not yet seen it take the time to see it!!! Other favorites include Terms of Endearment and Steel magnolias, she brought both characters to life From Aurora to Ouiser she brought out such personalities that I could compare them to my own family members!!! Shirley’s autobiographical writings are as exquisite as her acting, she is definitely one of the best! I don’t know she has been celebrated for her talents in the way she should be? Thank you Shirley, for giving us these unforgettable characters along with your books, you’re truly a fantastically talented human being!!!! 😊

Instead of reading 100 esoteric books, (which I think is a hyperbole or exaggeration) you should have read the Bible. People feel emptied and look for weird stuff to fill in their lives and their hearts. All of those things are garbage, fraud, evil to steer you away from God. The only way and the right way is to find Jesus: He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. I only watched this ridiculous movie because it was a school assignment; otherwise, I would have never watched it!

In 1968 I started 7th grade and met one of my Taurus sisters (still friends). Her mom introduced me to Edgar Cayce. And it all snowballed from there. Things started to weave together and make sense. My memories really started to make sense. ** I was a male child in 79ad Herculaneum. Was not Pompeii. My nightmare was making sense now. And then here comes Shirley. I didn’t feel alone anymore. You can’t talk about this stuff to just anyone. A path will show the way and put those in it to help guide or just to talk. I have the movie on DVD, but here I am on KZfaq getting my fix. I red the book again after 40 years and now I’m surprised how Shirley accepted that relation with this selfish politician. How she was constantly waiting for him and not listing what he was really saying…he wanted to get out of that relation because he had better priorities. He had what he ones dreamed off…the famous Shirley McLain. And she didn’t see that. She made a romantic blabla story of it. The love story of Shirley and Gerry was a mirror of many love story’s in my live. 40 years ago I red this book so romantically different, I remember 😃 This was my first spiritual book and I thank Shirley for opening this path for me 😘

It does not have to do with causal blowback, retribution or punishment for misdeeds.

Some of the people posting here seem to be upset by Shirley sharing her spiritual journey. She is not forcing you to accept her beliefs, or to read her books or to follow her website. It is your choice. Some of you may remember Jim and Tammy Faye Baker on the PTL network and their scandal of financially ripping off their congregation. Perhaps you remember the Jimmy Swaggart sex scandal. He was caught with a prostitute and went on tv with tears streaming down his face saying, " I have sinned against you my Lord". Three years later he was again caught with a prostitute and defrocked. My point is, in many places in this world, people's belief systems may be different from your own, but putting them down only shows how insecure you are in your beliefs.

My friend, you *do* “fit in.” You’re a human being doing the best you can without falling into the rut of religiosity. Best wishes on your continuing journey. May you learn the lessons, love others and respect all of life. We are connected to all you see around you whether it’s people, plants, animals etc. We are all part of a much greater whole and we are no less than every other living entity. Take care of you-*you matter too.*

Why?!! She left her little girl with the father who sexually abused her at will. And Maclaine knew all about it but chose to leave the daughter where she was so that Maclaine could have a detached life from the girl and be able to make movies and live the high l8fe. Oh yeah, and committed adultery and slept with multiple married men with the wives not knowing or giving a damn about the destruction she made. Oh yeah, she told the daughter at age 20 that her father was probably some other man, some astronaut. Callous and selfish. Yeah, a real class act.

I want to be open minded but...am I understanding this right? He's pursuing her but he is married with 2 teenagers? As a married woman and mother of teenagers myself, I struggle to be charmed by their relationship and therefore struggle to be invested in the storyline. And struggle to maintain respect for Shirley Maclain. I mean...what an awful thing to participate in so casually. My teenage daughters need their father and he spends a great deal of time with them. This dude is too busy saving "other" people while his family is neglected and he flits around with another woman. This is pretty terrible stuff.

I'd just have to chime in ,I doubt it was a relationship ... Just hot sex ,some people cannot control the temptation & their keep lust under wraps. I totally agree with your comment ,to lie & connive & sneak around in itself has consequences.🇨🇦🪶

This film came up on my feed first thing this morning. I was so enchanted by the Synchronistity! I've been a life long fan of Shirley Maclaine's work & watched all her films as a child & teenager. She always reminded me of my mother, for sime reason. It think it's her charisma & intellect! I was living in Santa Fe at the hight of her spiritual seeking & then she was quite a contraversial star, as she'd written her book 'Out On A Limb' & was not taken seriously with her openess about her experiences. I actually waited on her one afternoon at the restaurant Tomasita's. I was so starstruck I spilled a bit of salsa on her while serving the chips! She was quute irritated by that & I was horrorstruck by my fumble. Wow! What a trip to finally have this film come to me & be reminded of her work toward enlightenment! 🌟 I will find her book & read it asap! ❤

Kevin Ryerson will still give readings over the phone. I did one with him a few years ago. It was phenomenal. We had a great chat and he answered a lot of questions. The trance channeling was incredible. There were several things that he hit the nail on the head. He knew things no one could have known. If you can, seek him out. Shirley may be inaccessible (which is her right), but you can talk with Kevin.

I have always adored Shirley McLaine...as an actress and also for her joyful persona, her charmingly mischievous eyes but when I saw this movie, I came to really love and admire her in so many ways. She is an authentic person, sad that she is ridiculed by some, but I suppose that they lack the vision to see beyond the apparent or beneath the surface, which is their loss!

On KZfaq The Council of Nicea (not sure on spelling) in Constanopole in 1683 is the meeting where they decided to take reincarnation out of the Bible so people would not want to wait to work for God. This book wasn't a movie then, but got me started on finding the knowledge to go from a Seeker to a Seer. I'm so blessed and happy now living with the Holy Spirit, my Divine Mother. AUM OmOmOm. I know I'll meet Shirley in the Satva Heaven of Goodwill. Happiness

I gotta say, 20 minutes in: I really dislike married men who flirt with a woman as if they are single and interested, and I also really dislike women who start an affair with a man who they know is married. They deserve all the problems they run into.

How enlightened can someone actually be, if they dont have empathy towards their own child? We all have our shadows, but I am wary about cruelty towards children. Nevertheless I enjoy her movies, especially this one.

What you speak as truth can be as true or false as the old game of telephone… whispering a quotation from person to person in a circle! By the time it gets back to the first person and is recited back by the last receiver…it is so far from the original words it’s ridiculous! I’d respectfully suggest that you don’t adamantly share something you heard as profound truth thereby placing unsubstantiated gossip as judgment foolishly believed. Someday it may happen with you as the subject… perhaps that would open your eyes. Ignorantly posting slander has its Karma… with truth it’s only defense.
