Hi Folks, I get two remarks a lot on the review: The first is about the on/off button and that I hit it quite often by accident. The second is about the microphone that can be attached to to case. In short: 1) I don't like the button on the inside since that will expose the SD card slot to dirt, water etc. 2) I know, but it will get bigger and it does not fit and slide in my pocket that easy anymore ;). One extra remark: be careful with putting the small parts and the wide lens in de casing... I've noticed now after a while that the fit is not that snug anymore. I retrieved everything so far and now I bring them in a small bag from the jewel shop. Cheers, Gijs

After unboxing mine I immediately put all into a sandwich box. I may use your tip and put the small items into a little bag, the 'lenses' (I intend buying a cross polarising filter an light pollution filter) separately bagged from anything else to avoid scratches.

I just bought one pocket 2. And, the first instruction i read about putting it in its sleeve is that we should keep the SD card side up. So, if you do it then the power button is inside the sleeve. This way one can't accidentally press it, because to do it you need to take it out.

Thank you, that was one very well-presented tutorial and review. My Pocket 2 only arrived yesterday, so I have been checking out some videos today for tips and tricks, although I already own an Osmo Action, Mavic Pro, and Mini 2, so I am fairly familiar with the DJI apps and settings. Your video is by far the best and most informative I have viewed. I primarily purchased the Pocket 2 because of its size and weight as I intend on making it my go-to camera when out hiking and wild camping. Subbed as I am looking forward to watching some more of your videos. ATB, Dave 👍

Thank you Gijs, You just proved my decision of going ahead on P2 over Hero 10. Was considering to purchase it specifically for outdoor use (hiking/climbing/winter activities)- now I'm sure that I can survive with no waterproofness and relatively battery life but with great image and sound quality and tracking mode. Also will go far a Combo option. Thanks again! 🙋‍♂

excellent review, thank you ! Can you suggest a "dash cam" type of mount that could be used that reduces vibration when using the Pocket2 as a dash cam or bike cam mount for hyperlapse or other video while driving down a rough road? I am concerned about the constant vibration being bad for the pocket 2 camera and i LOVE to use this camera in the car and maybe my Jeep !

Maybe for this purpose a GoPro or DJI action is a better option although I do think the P2 would have no problem with the vibrations. Very thorough review and thanks for the useful use cases. One question though, what is the difference if you use your phone as the camera, even with a gimbal? Wouldn’t it be less thing to carry around?

Hi David, You are welcome. iPhone and gimbal instead of the P2? No. It is not less since a good gimbal for a iPhone (smartphone) is a bit bigger and I still have to set it up. Very good review. Note that you can put the P2 in its case with the button facing down, so it won't be accidentally pressed. However, this only works if you store it without the wide angle or filter (ND, CPL, etc) attached, because with lens or filter attached, the gimble will shut off with the lens facing out (on the same side as the on/off button), instead of facing in where it is protected. Also, while I have not had the wide angle lens fall out of the case, the iphone/android phone connectors very easily fall out (especially if both are stored in the case), so be careful of that and perhaps buy an extra (just in case) . Finally, with the new firmware update, we can now also turn on the camera facing forward by pressing the button to the right of the record button (in case you don't want starting in selfie mode). This turns it on very fast so you can quickly capture something happening in front of you.

Hi Gijs, at first I thought what a long video to watch. But in the end I finished watching the entire video. Good review because you also take the time to explain things. Also well filmed and also the outdoor shots where you show the setting that you are showing with your Pocket 2 at that moment. I still doubt whether I want this camera gadget with it because my current GoPro's can take a bit more of a beating. But the P2 offers more other nice possibilities that the GoPro's do not have. Thanks for creating and sharing this review. And the Utrechtse Baan always remains a great location for slow shutter speed photography and time or hyperlapses. I've been driving here almost daily for 40 years. 🆒🎥🎬👌👍🙏

Great review! I just got my Pocket 2 a week ago and look forward to using it on many outdoor excursions. Just two notes: If you look at the manual, the camera is supposed to be stored with the power button downward in the case, opposite to where you would accidentally touch it. Also, the wireless mic is meant to be stored at the top of the case, with the mic clip slid onto the square opening at the top of the case.

Hi CW, Thank your for the compliment! Yes, I know. But.... 1) With the on/off button facing inside the SD card slot is exposed with the risk dirt getting in there. I don't follow the manual in that respect because it is a stupid (not outdoor) way of thinking. Better an empty battery 😉. 2) It makes the whole system needlessly longer and then it does not fit that easy in the pockets of my pants anymore. Also I need to take the wind protector of the every time. Storing this way in a backpack is fine by the way. Have fun with your P2 and send me a clip if you like. I am always curious! Those are very good points, especially when you consider the outdoors. I didn’t take into consideration the micro-SD card slot! You’re right! Perhaps another solution is to provide a rubber cover for the SD card slot? My one wish for the Pocket is better water resistance. I know it’s too much to ask, but that would make it a perfect outdoor camera. I know there’s a waterproof cover, but it’s cumbersome for hiking and other outdoor pursuits. I debated with myself for a long time whether I should get the Pocket 2 or the GoPro 9. I think the Pocket 2 was a good choice, though. By the way, I’ve been watching your channel since you did that wonderful review of the Rab Alpha jacket (can’t remember its name offhand). I thought it was one of the best reviews of a piece of gear that I’d seen, and bought the jacket from your review. Thanks!

With a rubber cover it would not slide that easy in my pocket 😆 but that would make a difference in rain. The waterproof casing is rather unpractical.... In heavy rain clingfilm (is that the word) does wonders. That would be the Rab Alpha Flux jacket . I still have the red one and bought last year a next gen bleu one. I love them. maybe I should start with a affiliate link or a small webshop with my personal favs... I sell quite a lot of Rabs and red Lundhags pants for them just by wearing them.

I don't.... when it rains a bit.... I shoot. When it is a downpour I just don't shoot because it's not worth risking my gear. Than I use my iPhone or a GoPro or DJI OSMO Action. Ok.... sometimes I use cling foil.

Hi Kevin, Thank you!!! I did quite some shooting in the rain and yes, it is pretty waterproof if you are aware of the fact that it is not rated waterproof. That is why I did not put it in the video because I don't want people to think otherwise. IPX4 would be nice though for the next gen. DJI does have a waterproof casing for the P2. Superb Product and Superb Test. A Premium Compact Digital Camera I use has a 1/1.7" sensor as well. Next size is e.g. 2/3" Sensors. That's usual for bigger Bridge cameras. The Combo is also the base for using Dji 2 together with a Smartphone. Thanks fot the time you spend for the production of this Superb Test/Reviews.

Thank you for your content. I ordered the P2 Creator Content package, as I am about to embark on a Disney Cruise to the Bahamas. Do you recommend a waterproof case? I chose the P2 over the GoPro, but I am not sure about protecting the P2 in the water. Also, thank you for the explanation with the time-lapse, as I hope to capture beautiful sunrises and sunsets.

Hi Traci, Don't use the P2 in water is my advice. I have had it in heavy rain and no problem at all but DJI does not warrant it. If you want waterproof... go for the casing from DJI. store.dji.com/nl/product/pocket-2-waterproof-case Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe! Cheers, Gijs

wow... this is such a wonderful and thorough review. Thank you very much Gijs, for taking the time to create this review, which KZfaq recommended to me after I looked at another review. I'm considering buying it after my son, who's a professional photographer bought one and recommended that i got one myself for vlogging in general. Your review made me interested in this just as a camera in general, as I had other cameras that i didn't end up using because they're too bulky and a hassle to carry and operate. this feels like a perfect camera for me and the sound factor is very important for me as I mostly use it for speaking. You presented it mostly as an outdoor device. What is your opinion of DJI Pocket 2 as a vlogging device? Would love to hear your comment on this. Hi Miranda, thanks for your sweet comment. I did not do an update yet and I now I should. Time is not in my favor at the moment and the last months I have been trying hard to earn some money with presentations, writing articles and doing third party videos. My P2 is still doing what it should do. After the firmware update a while ago switching on the P2 results in a camera facing towards me. I don't like it but starting the P2 with the button next to the record button the camera faces away from me. Switch it off with the normal on/off button. What I also noticed is that the small thingies in the protection case have to tendency to fall out by now so take care with is. One funny thing: It can't do a timelapse when I turn the P2 in horizontal position. I tried to do a timelapse of watchface on the ground and it did not work. Hi Gizmoplans, Oeehhh that is sweet. Now I can test how and if it works. I am curious. No, I don't have the waterproof case. I use some clingfilm now and then and that works pretty ok. The new firmware gives some changes but no mayor drawbacks. Just be aware that the on/off button know puts the camera in selfie mode.... Hi KS, Thank you for the thumbs up! Makes me happy. The workshop... It's my office and I build one part as a workshop/studio for small not to messy jobs that I like to do in the warmth of our house. Behind the steel 'bookshelves' is actually an outside window. The wood that you see came from our roof after some DIY work and it is about 140 years old. I have a studio/workshop in a shed outside too but is is a bit cold and damp in a good part of the year. On to your question: they are made by Bret FX and I love them.
