I managed to find a 2020 Etron fastback with 15k miles, for low 30’s. And basically a full warranty due to when it was first sold publicly(Audi exec car kept it off market). Largely due to you and Allyssa’s Etron experience. Living is DC is no sales tax, and up to 1k towards a level 2 home charging install AND one time inspection since zero emissions. Seeing this I 100% agree with three of these over one new.

I had a gut feeling when I almost pull the trigger back a couple years ago in buying a used E-tron 55 that it was an excellent road tripper, I would have been very happy with that purchase! Well after a very poor experience with my 2023 Ioniq 5 due to Hyundai's service not the car so much and now my rockingly great Tesla Model Y AWD Long range road tripper, I can say I am happy with my current choice! Always great to gain this information from your channel as it allows me to make legitimate recommendations to others who are purchasing EV's, excellent channel start to finish and such a great resource to anyone considering an EV!

I bought a 2019 55 with 40k on the clock, launch edition, totally love it, drive brilliantly, loads of extra, pan roof, etc. I have had over 20 Audis over the years and it's amazing, Range does actually what it says it's going to do. I think it as power level not just miles. Range Anxiety is getting better, charge at home and when it needs it I use super changers and it's super fast. Would recommend a full Audi three year warranty with two services included. Go main dealer as you get Audi support if the franchise messes up. Audi group is all over them at the moment, specially in the UK

As a fellow 2019 owner, I read unfortunately a lot about the motors eventually failing due to coolant issues. That'd probably be the one big advantage over a Q8 over a used 2019, as it seems the motor failure on the older models is just a matter of when not if (and the motors are only covered by a 4 year warranty).

@@Whole_Leash_It unless you bought an extended warranty I'd encourage you to double check, especially as dealerships still aren't familiar with EVs and can easily misspeak/confuse issues. 8yr/100k is the battery warranty, but the basic and drivetrain warranty is 4 yr/50k.

Is there a data source for the motor failing eventually? The when not if part? I'm seriously looking and this is the one thing I've heard could be a problem, though the anecdote was coolant leaked and that is what caused the motor to go out.
@MrAlfable
@MrAlfable 7 ай бұрын
@@miketaylor3947 This will be a tl,dr, but short answer, no hard data, only Audi would have that and I'm sure its not a number they plan on releasing. Long winded answer, as someone who owns one I'm in a few forums regarding the vehicle so have seen that its an issue without a real solution, other than maybe some preventive maintenance. Both motors seem to regularly seep coolant, front motors were replaced with a recall and that seems to have mitigated the issue for the most part, so if you're shopping around make sure that recall has been done, but the front motor will still require the coolant to be drained at 20k intervals, I don't know how DIY this is, it looks a little complicated to me. The rear motor has a overflow canister, if you have a mount and are handy, checking and replacing this does look to be a bit more doable on a DIY level, the rear motor just notes replacing the canister at 20k intervals, no draining like the front motor (I did my 20k service at about 24k miles and my dealership said my canister was dry and didn't need to be replaced at that time). The failures of the rear motor, which seems to be the motor that is failing after the 4 year mark, SEEMS to result when that canister gets full and it isn't caught in time. So potentially regular maintenance checks of the coolant on the two motors MIGHT prevent the motor failure, but there doesn't seem to be any real consistency between vehicles as to how much coolant leaks in to the overflow canister in regards to mileage or usage, there have been some that got the rear motor failure before even the 20k mile mark, it just seems like some vehicles are luckier than others as to the rate of coolant leaking.

Because of you the Etron is on my list now, like the Etron-GT RS, EQS, maybe until then the i5 - they are all competitive priced with leasing which works best for me for now. 400km range is good enough especially if you can have fast charging. Hi Kyle. Love the videos. I’ve just sat and watched your road trips across America in the E Tron and loved them all. I have a charging question for you. I live in the UK and I’ve never owned an EV before. I’m looking at getting a 2 year old E Tron. It would be the 55 so the bigger battery. Never thought I would be able to afford such a luxury car but they are retailing for £25000 here at the moment which is around $32000 so in my view a bargain!!! My commute to work is around 22 miles each was and is mostly motorway so 70mph although a section is down to 40mph at that time of the morning due to high volumes of traffic. Then I’m into queueing to get into the town so 30mph and under. The multi story carpark where I park costs £3.50 per day to park but if you have an EV your charging is included in that fee. My question though is about charging while I’m at work. I’m guessing I can’t leave the car plugged in at one of these chargers for 8 hours straight (there are 10 of them and they are all on level 1 of the car park. They are type 2 7kw chargers.). If this was your car and daily commute what charging regime would you adopt please? 🤔.
@Deak787
@Deak787 3 ай бұрын
That seems like a no-brainer... if the charging is free, plug it in at work every day! Level 1 charging is better for the overall health of the battery, just set 80% charge and take advantage... you may not even need to charge anywhere else on a regular basis!

I really like this test. My goal is to get in on a full EV to replace my PHEV when a reasonably affordable EV can do 3 hours of highway driving (at 120km/h, 75mph) on a 15 minute charge. Most cars so far seem WAY off this mark, but the Hyundai/Kia E-GMP vehicles seem pretty close since they aren't unaffordable and the 800v makes high speed charging actually reasonable assuming you can find a reliable charger.

@@tomm5936The Ionic 5 definitely can't, in the AWD model. You'd have to go 225 miles at 75mph and the car is only rated for 233 miles on the highway, so even 18 minutes 10 to 80 loses 30% of the rated range and puts that at only 163 miles, or 2 hours 10 minutes of driving for 18 minutes of charging, not 3 hours for 15. @@martyndavies1482 Uh, what? No. I just do regular long trips in the 600-800km range (return) where I drive to a location, work for usually about 4 hours, and then drive back. In my PHEV I can fill the night before leave with a charge, drive an entire 800km, get home, and still have enough gas while combined with daily charging to do the next few weeks of city driving. An EV would need to charge twice during those trips, so if it was something like an E-tron that would add another hour and 20 minutes to the trip making it nearly a 14 hour day.

This means at an Electrify Canada charger if you have a car that charges at 100kW and you don't have their membership it will cost you $0.34 per kWh, but if your car charges at 200kW then it would be more like $0.17 per kWh. The difference between Chademo and CCS is even if every CCS station disappears and its only Tesla superchargers, CCS cars can still use a Tesla charger (assuming the station is open to allow other vehicles at this hypothetical point) with an adaptor and still get the full charging potential of the vehicle. When Chademo disappears Chademo vehicles just have to be phased out or live with level 2.

After hearing his rave reviews for a tesla and howbis better than MME I drove a MY MX both where two of rhe WORST cars i ever drove, like a 2004 Jetta, I then Drove a 2019 etron and the ride is on par with my 2019 RDX adv with more amenities but it's so inefficient that if you were to public charge it's the same price as gas Kyle has lost all credibility with me as he's too much of an EV show even when it's not a good deal

EVs will never be more than 25% of the cars on the road so just leave it to Tesla, the rest of these OEM’s just stick with making sweet hybrids and Diesels

I’d rather buy an EV from a company that knows how to build a car that doesn’t rattle and clank, has panels aligned and doesn’t have paint that simply falls off under normal use.

@@fupresti556 The eTron is really solid, no rattles or squeeks. If one developes the dealer will be glad to fix it.
