OVER FOUR DECADES OF OLD PHOTOS 1945 - 1991 - THE OLD SUBIC BAY NAVAL BASE PHILIPPINES
I have a subscriber who was stationed at the old Subic Bay Navel Base. I was given a flash drive with over 1,500 photos dating back as far as 1945 - 1991. I wanted to share these photos with the world. To me this is history of not only the Philippines but also U.S.A. military involvement here in The Philippines.
Part #1

I was in Subic during Vietnam from early 1971 until mid-year on my ship DD 840 USS Glennon. I loved liberty on the town. Some of the best music I ever heard. Terrific bands. I loved a Filipina woman who I wish now I had married.

I was a 19 yr old sailor when I had my first port visit to Subic. Had multiple port visits until I transferred back to the US after the first Gulf War. My daughter was born in Olongapo and was a year old when Mt Pinatubo erupted. I managed to get her and her mother to the US. Now retired in Angeles, I can really say the bar experience is much different now from then. Thanks for the memories!

You were lucky there, most filipinas would dump American guys in the San Diego area once you bring them to America. Good example; the Trophy Lounge in National City. I was station dito from 1987-1989 and got stationed on the USS Okinawa LPH-03 there at naval base San Diego from 1989-1992.

Thank you, Philly, for the video and photos. It reminds me of my childhood in Olongapo City, where my parents worked from the late 1960s to 1970s. My childhood and high school years were spent in the city, and I had always wanted to visit the naval base because I thought it was already a part of the United States. Blast from the past gives me a nostalgic feeling and brings tears to my eyes because life was so simple back then. Wonderful memories.

I was stationed at Cubi Point RP from 1987-1989 and seen hundreds of Amerasians from Olongapo to Subic City and some I can tell who the fathers are; obvious black kids to light skin blonde haired/blue eyed ones. Some latino/Mexican and filipino mix you can't tell. I was careful not to make any kids there due to the fact I used a rubber but some bar girls wanted no part with me using rubbers, so I had to get another bar girl for short time. When I was there for over 2 years I felt sorry for the Amerasian kids there and thought of adopting one as a young sailor but I had to marry the mother of that child, so I had second thoughts and didn't go through.

Yes, Harkins back to the days when ladies had big hair, even pre-dating the big hair bands of the 70's & 80's. Thoroughly enjoyed watching your slide show except for the beginning where you used the pixelating effects, I almost stopped at that point. Just sayin
