How do you overcome (and harness) impostor syndrome to gain confidence as a professional photographer and unlock new levels of happiness and abundance in your business and life? That's what we're talking about in today's video! We're uncovering why impostor syndrome happens and how you can stop it in its tracks.

ABOUT THIS VIDEO:
Do you ever find yourself questioning your abilities as an artist? Do you have a hard time calling yourself a "professional photographer", or lack confidence to share your work and put yourself out there in ways you know will help you grow your business? If so, you've likely been victim to a common condition known as "Impostor Syndrome"
That feeling of being a Fraud, Cheat, Amateur... Feeling like at any moment people will discover the truth: That you don't have it all together. That are you aren't worthy of your accomplishments or praise from others.
If any of this is resonating, I created video specifically for you! Because I too have felt this feeling, and want you to know that impostor syndrome is not something to be embarrassed of. In fact, it's totally natural
and human. BUT - if you don't move past it and learn to harness it, it will be something that holds you back. From your dreams, happiness and full potential. It's one of the biggest causes of burnout as a professional photographer, and also one of the biggest road blocks that hold photographers and creative entrepreneurs back from the success and money they deserve when building a photography business. And my mission is to help photographers like you THRIVE. So, let's take the first steps towards conquering it together! :)
xoxo

*QOTD* : What's your main takeaway?! Or any other thoughts/advice you have for others who are having feelings of impostor syndrome? This is such an important topic, so I'd love to hear your thoughts! 🙂

I think you make a great point when you said everyone is on their own unique journey and you're always growing. Its so important to be mindful that you've got to have the mentality of a "student" of whatever craft you set out to do if you want to thrive. It's also important to develop a sense of objectivity with where your skill gaps are and not let that be a negative. Its great to be able to identify where you need to grow, but don't beat yourself up about it. Anything worth having takes time, investment, nurturing, our craft is no different. I also love the part about change, developing a different relationship with change, failure is a huge deal. It helps you tackle things without the fear of being perfect and its helped me get out of my own way. For my own part, I remind myself constantly I am here because a lot of people believed in me and have been patient with me to let me grow and become who I am. I put in the time, dedication and that gives me the confidence going into anything I do even in the face of ambiguity.

Another great video and just to say, I really appreciate the way you're able to intertwine technique, psychology and business acumen within so much of your content. I intended to give up 25 years of corporate life in order to pursue a job that was also my passion, but Covid has managed to delay things for a little while. However, I am gradually acquiring more of my income through photography and hope to leave the "office" permanently very soon. I also struggled to justify my worth and initially felt guilty about charging people for my work. But in the back of my mind, I always told myself that everyone has to start somewhere. Whether it's the person landing your plane, setting a broken bone or repairing your leaking tap; they all had to get over the hurdle of doing it for the first time. Initially feeling racked with nerves is absolutely fine but the relief and elation of completing a job for 'real paying clients' is transformative. Looking back there will undoubtedly be things you'd change, but just take that learning through to the next job. And then think how great you'll be in five shoot's time!

My biggest takeaway is the idea that we feel unworthy of praise because we’re imperfect, I.e., don’t have all the answers. If we ever achieve perfection, by definition, we stop growing. So, let’s all keep getting better and celebrate when someone recognizes we’ve made a step in that direction.

Thanks so much Jim. 🙏🏻 Having the right mindset is critical for success - so I feel topics like this are just as important, if not more, than techniques and strategies. Once we can get out of our own way we can truly thrive and experience way more happiness & fulfillment in the process. :)

I know this video is a year old, but oh my goodness, did I need to hear this! I've been a photographer since 2005 and I have felt stuck for almost a decade. I often think of myself as a fraud because I'm not where others are after almost two decades in the industry. I lost my passion for it about 6 years ago and just started picking up my camera this year and it's been rough. Thank you for this.

Great video thank you🙏 Honesty. Integrity. Ethics. Morals. Work ethic. Preparation. Learn something everyday. That was my career roadmap and it worked. Don’t worry about your peers, you can’t control anything about them. Do your preparation before doing a project that way your own personal talent and ideas will naturally separate you from your peers. My 2cents.
