if you film negative your correct on the most part: exposing for the shadows. But if your photographing with color slide our chrome you want to expose for the highlights.

Wait.... if you're using single point AF, why does it matter how many focus points you have activated? It's only using one.
@ChelseaNicoleАй бұрын
More points to choose from = more precise focus exactly where you want the point to be. This will matter more the more wide open (ie: low aperture numbers) you shoot. 🙂

Thankyou for being generous with your advice and hints. I was asked to step in after the pro withdrew from a wedding in our friend's family. I watched your video the night before. I would say it is very very hard, so much going on, beyond the mere technical aspects which were tricky in bright sunshine. I know not your topic here, but my biggest issue was overcoming strongly backlit subjects with a normal speedlight in a soft box. As soon as you enter HSS shutter speeds the power drops right off. I had to go way down on ISO to stay at 1/250 and even took double shots so I could PS out the intruding softbox from frame. I was terrified of messing up but both families are really happy with the shots. They knew I was out of my comfort zone and were so kind to me. It was a streep curve. Thank you. (BTW mostly using my Nikon D700 and Godox flash kit)

you don't even analyze the average monthly salary in your area? "vision, mindset, pink ponies" - what about real economics? unless you're in a big city, I don't think there's a lot of wealthy people around, so it's silly to put a high price just because you want to
@ChelseaNicoleАй бұрын
Hey Ivan - thanks for your comment, but I think you missed the point. This video was very clearly titled pricing "beyond numbers" and is more about deeper pricing strategy and psychology than crunching numbers. Also, in no way do I teach "just put a high price" and hope for the best. Instead, this is an important conversation around premium pricing (which doesn't just apply to big cities by the way.) Many people have very limiting beliefs around money, what clients will pay and what's possible for them, and this is one of THE biggest things that holds a lot of photographers back from earning what they are worth. You can crunch all the numbers you want... but (and this is said with love) if you forever operate from the place of _"people in my area aren't willing to spend more"_ it will indeed limit your growth.

Very helpful video, thanks! JI just started using Lightroom Classic (switched from PS Camera Raw) and noticed quite a drop off in color quality from my RAW images within LRC and the exported jpeg images. The colors in LRC are vibrant and those in the jpegs are dull. I used all the recommended settings, but am quite disappointed with the outcome. I took a screen shot of the images, but do not see how to attach them here. Do you have any thoughts/suggestions?

Focus and recompose will definitely give you bad pics where the focus is not on the eye. Nowadays no need for it as most cameras have lots of focuspoints and all points are fast in focus.

I love how much time you allow on the front end of the first look, and how you have so much wiggle room in your timeline. I have been looking at many examples of how to plan my ideal timeline and I like your system the best! Do you typically recommend "fake" exits for your couples since your coverage would end sooner than the reception ends?

I was told Modelmayhem does NOT WORK. unless you have a portfolio. Or they might think you're a scammer. You HAVE to have photos, and contacts, and credits.
@ChelseaNicole4 ай бұрын
Hey! I haven’t used MM in some time now, but when I first started I didn’t have much of a portfolio- just a few images to show I could actually shoot and give a sense of my quality and style. If you have ZERO images, then yes, I agree. It’s not going to be worth a models time if it’s unclear what they would get in exchange. In that case, I would recommend starting with people you know. Friends, friends of friends, etc to practice, grow your skill level and build up an initial portfolio to show. From there it will be easier to use the other methods. Social media is also a really great, easy place to connect with models. 🙂

@@ChelseaNicoleIt's been hard of late. I tried advertising on craigslist...and they blocked my card. CRAP. So I"ve been working on finding local models on instagram. I put out nine messages, and so far not a word. As for asking friends...one said she would love to...but works all the time...the others said "Ah, maybe..." It's not really a big project either, no nudity or anything crazy....

Greetings from Turkey, I started taking photographs 5 months ago. I bought Canon R10 18-150mm and Sony A7 IV and Sigma 24 70 F2.8. I work as a minimum wage worker in the factory and my aim is to make money from photography. Your video was motivating and good. I'm still confused about it. Raw When I send the photos to my computer, I need to know first whether I will edit them with Lihgtroom or Photoshop and which size I will print for Instagram, Facebook or which one. Thank you😊
@ChelseaNicole4 ай бұрын
Hello from across the sea 👋 And congrats on starting up your business!! In the beginning the most important thing is to practice, practice, practice to build up your skill level. I would also make one of your goals to identify a niche/specialty to build the business around - so that you can start building a portfolio in this area. Make sure it’s a niche that there’s a good amount of demand for. I have a video on how to find your niche here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qceaYMuW1NCXqI0.htmlsi=Ht7jiKxdlY_VPX1Z For editing, I do occasionally dip into Photoshop but 99% of my editing is done in Lightroom. It’s going to depend on your niche, style and what you offer, but in general LR is the best for most portrait and/or wedding photographers who are editing a lot of images across one session. Hope this is helpful. 🙂
